BC they paid 27 total. Price was actually 25 and waiter kept 2 of the 27 paid.

they've each paid 9$... not just for the meal... but also the 2$ tip they didn't know they were paying... They paid 25$/3 for the meal and 2$/3 for the tip or 27/3 in total (counting the tip)... the 3$ missing from there is the 3$ they got back... not the tip + mysterious missing 1$

The problem is more which numbers to use than how to use the numbers...

Yea the only thing thats wrong with booyakata's troll equation 9*3+2 = 29 is the "+" should be a "-" sign since what we're looking for is how much the 3 dish actually cost. An equation that would account for all the money would be 9*3+3=30, the three euros the waiter gave back to the customers.

In high school I was late for class and this riddle was on the blackboard. My teacher was a cool bald guy (who apparently rides motorcycles and hangs out at my local strip club, fact I only found out much later in life) asked me to solve the riddle, which my class failed to do yet, and I would be forgiven for being late. I already knew the answer so GG. It was one of the highlights of my high school years.

Yea.. It is just because it says the 3 x 9 part that fucks everything up... Because 25/3 is not $9 .... it's 8.3334 gg. So that's where the extra euro comes from... Fail

waiter has already shown he is deceitful enough to pocket $2, so he probably took an extra one too.
