You have to consider the force he applies with his knees, if he is just standing there obviously he is gonna fall but if he applies force and has strong enough legs he could very well balance himself as this sketch shows:

in all seriousness though that is entirely possible you'd just have to be really strong and have some resistance to keep your legs from sliding off
