I think you would have to watch the whole episode for this kind of show

This is just game theory.

If you steal, you either win all of it or none of it
If you split, you either win half of it or none of it

Therefore, steal is the dominant strategy because you do not know what your opponent will choose.

If you want to be a decent human being and not being a sap at the same time just chop after the show in the case you scoop.

This.

But isn't there normally a rule in this format where if you both choose the "Steal"-option, nobody wins anything?

It's just Prisoner's dilemma, can't believe it took this long for network execs to turn it into a tv show.

Split is the better option, because then there's the chance that the other guy is a decent human being and chops after the show, and there is no chance the money is lost to you guys.

Either way the guy goes home with nothing. He would probably prefer to look like a fool with integrity than a shark without integrity.

If I were on that show I would just say we pick each other's ball. I say if that person doesn't go with the ball I choose for them then I am picking steal and they are going home with nothing. We lose some juice to the house but that's just my insurance that I don't get screwed over

steal is the only option imo
if you take steal and the other take steal you leave iwth nothing but that fucker didnt want to split anyway
so if you take split and he take steal you are fucked
if you take steal and he take steal its the same that if you took split and he take steal
so you just have to take steal and hope for the idiot to split

exactly and this should be obvious, deals are i'm sure illegal to make. The only way you get money is if the other player chooses split. So your choice is do I get x$ or 2x$

What is lame is that people actually go on this show without putting in 1 minute's thought into it.

there might be something we don't know, like if they both choose split then they get to keep competing for extra money they otherwise wouldn't have... so if they have odds to choose split. Obv if those odds were big enough it would be +EV to choose split can someone deny if there is another variable at play here or are these guys really huge idiots

You dont have to weigh the EV of splitting or stealing or any of that shit. Cmon, just look at that cunts eyes, painfully obvious she was gonna steal, especially if you're a chubby pussy begging for a split. She didnt choose steal because she thought it had the greatest chance of winning, she chose steal because she knew he was a bitch. Play the man, not the eggs people.

bye now

but if everyone is smart and plays the "perfect strategy", nobody wins anything -_-

everyone's EV is 0

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

The problem with always stealing 100% is that you don't know with what probability the other person will steal. (I think your answer assumes the other player will split or steal 50% of the time). And remember (to other ppl in the thread), the goal of the game is to maximize your own game value. The tilt of having the other guy potentially exploiting your play should not be considered in the calculations.

Anyway I think player X can make the other player indifferent from the strategy of "Always Split" or "Always Steal" by stealing 66% of the time and splitting 33% of the time. This is favorable to always steal because it avoids the situation where both players always steal and everybody loses. Although it loses game value to the scenario where both players split (.5) vs (.33), it guarantees that you get some value out of the game.

edit: assuming this is correct(not sure if it is), a fun step after it is to announce your strategy...explain that both players can increase game value by always splitting. deviate from the basic strategy by splitting or stealing if you feel you have the metagame edge.
