Its a ps/2 Mouse adapter to be able to use usb mouse when u only have ps/2 port on your computer.
actually i am not entirely sure since its been so long ago when ps/2 ports where used on computers ... ( Like till 2004 or something) but as far as i remeber corrctly
the ting about PS/2 was that on a mouse Ps/2 only a mouse would work and on a Keyboard PS2 only a keyboard and on a printer ps/2 only a printer.
So that adapter in the picture originally only worked for a mouse and simply wont work with a usb stick/keyboard/printer whatever.....
nowadays since USB everything with an USB connection works on every USB port and we simply forgott that times have been different not tooo long ago
But i guess there is a high chance that in the end this might actually have worked with some kinda softwares
So maybe i dont get the funny part about that either
ofc the USB stick would be super slow on a pS/2 port but well if u dont have usb drive at your computer ist still better than nothing ?

The joke is actually that he put a USB->PS/2 converter on an USB memorystick .
His knowledge (or lack there of) of adapters' transfer speeds is the joke.
Why you typed that essay is now more interesting to me than the joke.

He was correct though, transfer speed has nothing to do with it. It's simply that the usb -> ps2 adapter will only work for a keyboard or mouse. |

... if he knew that USB was the faster, superior, reliable and hot swap-able platform
he would not be attempting to use a USB->PS/2 converter (even if he doesn't know that that's not a signal converter).
(And as a fun fact PS/2 is able to transfer 1.2kB/s of data )

Well i think u got it wrong.
But i am not entierly sure that is why i wrote that essay.
Lets say u have an old laptop without USB support and some old pictures on it ud like to transfer to some other computer!
And u have a USB memory stick.
So to get the pics from your old computer to the new computer id rather transfer it slow than not being able to transfer et all
So in my opinion the joke is about PS/2 only functioning specifically with devices designed for exactly that specific PS/2 device ( Mouse / Keyboard / Printer)
f.e u cant even use an USB/PS/2 mouse adapter with a keyboard .... u can only use it with a mouse while at the same time u cant use a PS/2-USB keyboard adapter with a mouse
While nowadays with USB u can use Keyboard/Mouse/Printer on every USB port. |
