Hello. If we have enough interest, I'd like to organise an (un)"official" LP mtt challenge for the month of july, which is sort of similar to, but less complicated than, the one run at 2+2. what the hell is this, i hear you ask?
Well, the jist is this. A number of teams are formed from everyone who wants to participate. These teams have captains, and the captains pick their members from the draft of all players who registered an interest in participating. Once we have x teams of y players per team, we all play a ton of MTTs in the month of July, and the team that does the best at the end of the month, in terms of TLB points, wins.
The 2+2 MTT challenge had many more complex rules, which can be found here. It's a good system for scoring that rewards performance more than which team played the most (mass 20+2 180 man sngs anyone?), however it's overcomplicated for our much smaller site, so instead we'll just impose a rule that only TLB points won from scheduled tournaments (tourneys->regular in stars menu) are allowed to count, so it doesn't become a competition to see who can grind out the most multitable SNGs.
To make it interesting, each team has to put up i dunno say 500$ into the prize pool for their signup, and at the end, the team that wins scoops and shares out the lot.
So, I'm just creating this to see how many people would be interested in possibly playing in something like this. Given enough interest I'll (with the help of some guys like bigballs/mig) think about actually organising this and deciding what works best with regards to players per team/number of teams/signup fee/other exact parameters for rules
If you're interested in taking part, and able to put in time playing lots and lots of mtts (as well as have sufficient bankroll to be comfortably able to do so), and want to spend your july partaking in a friendly team based competition with your fellow LP posters, please reply here with the following:
1) how interested and eager you are to take part in something like this
2) how many hours a day you estimate you will play poker in July
3) a rough indication of the sort of buyins of tournaments you can easily afford to play
4) roughly how much are you willing, and do you think is a reasonable amount, to put up for the event? (ie contribute to the prize pool)
The answers to questions 1 and 2 are the most important for the success of this competition, but it'll be useful for me to know the ratio of higher buyin players to lower buyin players as well when deciding what works best for things like the number of teams and number of players per team.
And finally,
5) if you're a higher buyin player, would you be happy with the possibility of being a team captain?
I hope we can get a good amount of interested people for this soon, so we can pick captains, # per team, entry fee per team, and begin the drafting process before July starts. Reply away!
********************* EDIT *********************
Rules update
-There will be 4 teams of 5 players.
-The signup fee for each team is $500.
-The TLB points from top 20 scores of a team will count.
-Each team member has to put forward at least 2 scores (they will be counted as 0 if a member fails to make 2 scores). There is no maximum to the amount of a team's top20 scores that can come from one player, but the minimum per player is 2.

1) VERY
2) MANY
3) im happy to play in all the bigger buyin stuff as well as the smaller buyin ones- basically whatever's going
4) like maybe 200, more if need be.
I forgot to mention, although all teams pay the same (still undecided) entry, individuals within a team can take different pieces of the action, and if that team wins the challenge, the amount the individuals of that team win from the competition's prize pool will be proportional to the amount of the team's entry they put up individually
5) hell no. i think captains should be the big name tournament players here. i sincerely hope people like mig/elky/raszi/twistedecho will volunteer to be the team captains. im a cash game donkey who will spend july learning mtts while playing as many as possible. |

I'd help run this with you - maybe some nice admin could give us a section on the left for MTT CHALLENGE or something, and make us temporary mods for that section for the month? Obviously that would depend on this having a high level of interest.
Another way we did it on 2+2 (i was in the challenge) was the team captains paid the fees, and then it was up to the team to sort out who pays what % of that, obviously with the idea if that team wins, the payouts would be paid back going on the %% they paid in.
I'd happily be a captain also!

I like the idea of the captain paying the fees then the team will split up the action between them. |

this sounds like fun i'd like to give it a shot even though i will be playing mostly cash games this month, playing 1-2 MTT's at any time is cool with me, i can afford the 20+2 ones pretty easily :o
i can probably play 3-6 hours a day maybe more if i'm feeling gay |

I'll be interested. I'm playing mostly tournaments since the summer started since I really want to become more of a tournament player (boy this is stressful). As you can see from my db stats (which aren't impressive at all so dont laugh), I've made 4 final tables since June 1st between Party and Stars, and have had a number of cashes which puts me in the top 150 for TLB on Stars for now (imagine that!).
1) Yes I'm interested
2) Poker is my summer job so... atleast 5-6 hours a day
3) Can afford any buy-in tournaments but I'm not very comfortable playing above $50+5 since my "advanced" tournament game is rather weak, so I just bash on the donks at the low levels for now.
4) To a prize pool (assuming I'm betting on my own team to win) i'd be willing to put up $200-$500.
Sensai TwistedEcho, you got your #1 draft pick right here! |

Not to "clutter" this thread or anything, but I do think that if mig.com participates that he should be a captain... It'd be kinda rigged to let someone like LURPED or RaSZi draft mig.com or ElkY first round.
I sent RaiNKhaN the link. I hope he is interested.

I think (if this is not already the case) prizepool should be divided in tems of equity so if i put up $400 and someone else on my team puts up $100 my $400 represents 80% of my teams volume so if my team wins I get 80% of the winnings.
Is this how the structure will work? |

obv...
and cosmo,
1. if mig completely refuses to be a captain there's no way we can make him
2. he will only play the highest buyin tournaments anyway, so he may not be as big an asset to any team as you might initially think, compared to another player who's less good but still decent, and is prepared to play a lot more tournaments, and so will have a greater chance at making more scores
3. the plan is (once we finalise the captains) to have a private captains' tournament, where the order of elimination of captains in the tournament will determine the order captains get to pick players in the draft
i hope this will generate lots of interest and excitement, as well as lots of sidebet action and lively discussion and speculation.
as twistedecho said, it would be really cute if when this thing gets underway we get our own MTT CHALLENGE section of the forums, and we get temporary mod powers to make sticky threads and stuff like that |

pokerdb does not list the 180's which count toward TLB points.
Besides this, ket I dont think we should make this a TLB point tally race. I think we should find a good way to score tournaments of each player based on results listed in the pokerdb, because the pokerdb just lists tournament cashes which is perfect, and if we do a TLB thing, anyone can abuse the $4 180's and rack up a ton of TLB points which is just lame.

feel free to fill in my little form thing when you wanna enter draft instead of posting 2 words, you assholes!
cosmo, i already put in the rules any multitable sng won't count, so this is not a strict tlb point race. ofc we will use pokerdb for this, we already thought of that dw
raszi and frinkx, we already decided a good amount to use per team is 500$. we can bump it up to more once all the teams are formed, by mutual agreement with the players drafted. unfortunately you can't be making your own random 2 person teams up, since this is a team based competition which aims to bring people of the site together. theres no reason you guys should be allowed such special treatment that you can just ruin how we want to run it. But as I said, we'll hold a captains tournament to determine player picking order in the draft, if you do well in this it'll increase your likelihood of being able to pick Elky first before anyone else can in the first round of the draft pickings. edit: oh yeah, tell elky to sign up for the draft here, to make this even possible.
You're always free to make your own private sidebets on top. For example, I believe mig.com and twistedecho said those two would like to compete with you two (speaking to Raszi and Elky) for a 2vs2 TLB race, counting all tlb points including those from multitable sngs that give TLB for a 20k sidebet (5k from each player). |

just seems like if its gunna be like 4 or 5 person teams $500 is not much, especially to motivate someone to play all month long. ur gunna make that money back (well at least i'd hope so) regardless, i think each person putting up a couple hundred or even like 500 a piece is what might make it interesting and worth while |
not everyone can afford this. I have a $1k sidebet with ket for who can get the most TLB over the month, and i figure i'll win money playing the mtts anyway. Get a sidebet with ket if you want more money from this, hes a fish at sidebets |

you get more TLB points for winning the 3r than the 100r. I'll be playing the 150s and sunday tournaments, and pretty much every NLHE $1-$50 that i can.
After july i might hate tournaments enough so i can work on cashgames |

i will sidebet say 200$ that u will not be able to play as many hands in a single session as Baaash (a friend from CZE who also occasionally posts here at LP.net).
if u are interested, pm me and we will discuss the details. |

All right, thanks for the support and interest you guys have all showed. Hopefully the technicalities will be sorted out by the end of this week and we'll be all ready to start the drafting.
Updates:
casinocasino replaces LURPED as a captain.. we don't think LURPED is a good choice after all, since im told he's gonna be in vegas for wsop for a large part of july (plus he doesnt even post here, wtf is that?)
I'm not sure if travis is still available to be captain. If not, we may have to cut it down to just 3 teams. watch this space, i guess
This next week will be your last chance to register for drafting. Also if you previously signed up for drafting and want to now remove yourself for some reason, please say about that. |

I say let the side bet amount be desided after the teams are made. But let the 500 be the minimum. |

Hi,
1. I would be interested in enrolling for this. I've been playing lots of cash games lately and need a change.
2. I can consistently contribute ~ 40 hours a week (weekdays*4 + weekends*10) so ~ 5.5h/day
3. The buy-in level under $15, or under $11 for rebuys
4) For the prize pool I can contribute $100 |
