I think this thing happens with alot of couples - and they often get back together...

Me and my gf for a bit over 2 years broke up over pretty much the exact same reason...and we got back together about..uhm...2 weeks later i think (and that was like 4 months ago, and things are fine now)

Sucks man but good decision probably, going on when things dont work out just to avoid pain will end up in a lot of fights and a way more messy breakup. Now you can just say hi to her when you see her somewhere in the future, something I won't be able to do to my ex of a couple of years ago. And trust me, thats not a nice situation to be in.
