At least 38 million people watched Obama's speech on Thursday night to make it the most watched political convention in history. Pretty crazy. They had more people watching "than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year". Insane. I can't believe I was there!

For my own record and for anyone who missed it all, I decided to put together a highlight thread of my favorite parts of the DNC.

First let's start with my favorite speeches by people who aren't major celebs in the party:

John Kerry's Speech (I know he's famous but I liked it a lot so it is gonna be up top):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dO2PAm4iCtE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dO2PAm4iCtE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Kucinich Speech:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lv0smG7ptcM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Lv0smG7ptcM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer Speech:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/lNHysr_IluI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lNHysr_IluI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Bill Richardson:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZpgMIYp92-M&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZpgMIYp92-M&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And of course we can't miss Obama's amazing acceptance speech on Thursday night which got so many views:

Introduction Biography Video:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XL0KxjeKlrM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XL0KxjeKlrM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Barack Obama's Speech:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ato7BtisXzE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ato7BtisXzE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And to save space I'm going to put Bill and Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Al Gore, and Ted Kennedy into a spoiler:

+ Show Spoiler +

Music (Jennifer Hudson, Will.i.am, John Legend)
+ Show Spoiler +

And for good measure, Obama and McCain 2004 convention speeches:

+ Show Spoiler +

Hope you enjoyed =)

just a quick heads up k2o4,

frontline on pbs will be airing soon the choice 2008. I dunno if you have seen the choice 2004, but it was easily the best documentary highlighting the backgrounds of the presidential candidates. being the political fanatic that you are, you'll probably be familiar with most of the information on it, but I strongly recommend a watch nonetheless.

After it airs, I think sometime in sept. it will be shown free here:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/view/

for some reason, they don't have the choice 2004 up but here are some recommended views:

Bush's War 2008
Cheney's Law 2007
Rumsfeld's War 2004

and some non-political ones:

Age of Aids 2006
The Meth Epidemic 2006

Awesome, thanks for letting me know about it. I'll keep an eye out for it and if I miss it on TV I'll def get it on the net. I watch PBS here and there. They have some pretty good shit. It's on my channel listing for favs on the remote, but I don't stop and watch it often enough.

I saw the bush's war one that you mentioned (or at least I think that's what it was) and thought it was a great job of laying out the facts in a very middle ground no conspiracy theory way.

I will ad that link to my politics folder on my browser =)

"We need a President who can face the threats of the future, not keep grasping at the ideas of the past…. If John McCain wants to follow George Bush with more tough talk and bad strategy, that is his choice – but it is not the change we need…. If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. "

I found this series of quotes to produce the most amusing moment in political speech history. I could've thrown in a couple more ad hominems Obama used against McCain, but, if two don't prove my point, why would four or five?

hahaha yeah I had it on as much as possible - played a lot of poker with the DNC on in the background. Kinda sad it's over, it was a lot of fun for a political junkie like me. I missed kucinich and just watched him today - he was awesome, haha. Such a fiesty little elf and sometimes he's a little crazy, but lately I've been happy with what he's doing and this speech was really fun and exciting.

Yep he's fighting back a bit, finally. In a much classier way than McCain attacks him. To me it's the difference between a street brawl and a boxing match in a ring. It's like Obama walking down the street and McCain runs up and starts insulting his wife, and when Obama tries to keep walking and ignore him McCain stabs him in the back and kicks him in the balls. Instead of fighting back there, Obama says "meet me in here @ this time" and gets into a boxing ring for an honorable fight.

lol what I just wrote was pretty bad, but the point is that when someone attacks you dirty you should stand up for yourself and fight back, but do it in as clean and classy a way as possible. No matter what fighting is bad, but to me the way Obama fights back is classy while the way mccain attacks is trashy. I could just be super byast though.

Anyway, brian, I'm curious if you watched the Kerry speech.

Oh my fucking god! Sit back and look at the 2 candidates. Think about our countrys current direction and imagine it 2-4 years later under each candidates policies and beliefs!

Also, skeeerruuuh! Imagine John Mccain having a relapse and/or him passing away... Who will our next president be? This isnt something to fuck around with anymore. I love america. I love the thought of us being the best country in the world and everybody wanting to be here. We have lost that label and respect. Its time for a radical change.

well said.

McCain's VP pick just shows the type of decisions he'll make - careless, reckless, random shit to try and appeal to small slivers of the public. Right now he wants to court hillary supporters so he picks a woman. A woman who I don't feel to excited to have as president. She's literally a heartbeat away from the presidency if we elect mccain. Scary.

Hmm, Obama's 08 speech was really good.

Bill clinton was good too. I liked michelles speech as well.

And richardson and the montana guy were also good. hehe. Honestly, I say everything I posted was fun, but those 4 were also pretty good. If you followed the entire primary drama then hillary's was nice too.

Richardson/montana guy were hard on mccain. Clinton was kinda unity/hit mccain. Michelle was inspiring/american dream/a diff perspective on barack.

Brett, I think you're entirely out of touch with reality if you think gun owners, people who enjoy hunting, fishing, and do blue collar work, union members, and enjoy simple living are a small sliver of the public.

Hell, I'd vote for Palin for President if the ticket were the other way around. You want a radical change? She sure as hell would be one. Honest, hardworking, never been in Washington, short but brilliant record against corruption; not in anyway a partisan hack, genuinely family oriented and, unlike Hillary, it doesn't frighten me to look at her!

When I said small sliver I meant ex Hillary supporters who were still undecided. It's looking more and more like she appeals to the far right which I didn't know at the time, and is more here to shore up the base. I do agree that gun owners/hunters/fishers will probably like her, but I have a hard time believing she'll make any significant difference with blue collar workers and union members.

I don't get it - Obama was too inexperienced to be president and was not ready to lead, but Palin (who is younger and has a shorter record than Obama) is a-ok? And considering how old McCain is and that he's had past health issues, his VP has a high chance of becoming president. Now I am not saying that she gets an auto thumbs down cause she has less experience - I don't believe in that. But it's so weird that republicans will bitch and moan about not enough experience from Obama so he can't be prez, but it doesn't bug em to have a VP with even less experience. Maybe the argument is that "it's VP, not the Prez, so it's different" but I feel that with a prez who has such a high chance of not finishing his full term that the VP is VERY important.

I believe that experience is not as important as good judgment, good sound decision making, and the ability to hear all sides of an issue and come to an informed decision which respects all parties involved. I believe Obama has all those qualities and is smart enough to surround himself with very experienced people from both sides of the aisles and then take in all of their advice and reach smart conclusions. I also believe Obama has the ability to inspire people to love their country even more and take action to serve it, to come together and work for a greater future for the entire country. For me those things make up for the lack of experience. Plus, I do feel like he's had a decent amount of experience, though obviously not as long as many other politicians.

In comparison I think Palin has much less experience, to the point where I'm thinking "errr, this is pretty thin". I also don't see that same judgment. She doesn't believe in global warming. That's scary to me. She's very anti-abortion and is against exemptions for rape and the health of the mother. She's also wrapped up in an investigation into abuse of power, and after Cheney I've had enough power abusing VP shit to last me a life time.

Anyway, here's my little fact list I've been able to put together so far:

Former Beauty Queen
Star point guard
