So if I own my own house and have no problem with people coming over, then should I just keep my account logged in and open 24-7???? |

nice list stim, but i also want to add as a programmer that its possible to install rootkits and exploit security holes in software to compromise a system.
for instance if a program is written badly it will allow data to overwrite instructions on the executable stack which can be used to install software of their choice. this isnt as hard as it sounds which is why poker players should be using a firewall.
obviously the best setup is a firewalled gateway, a dedicated poker machine with specialised ruleset just for poker software (specifying ports and ips- i have the details from pokerstars, u can email them if u need it) and another computer for recreational use (skype is very insecure..., many software of net is untrusted) |

I'll second keeping different passwords for different sites as good security advice. Especially make sure your email account has a very strong and unique password because if someone gets access to your email, most of your other accounts can be easily compromised. I had my World of Warcraft account stolen over a year after I quit playing because someone got into my gmail, which had the same password I used at lots of insecure online forums. They typed my email address into the wow site to get my account name, and then searched through my emails for passwords. I used the same password at Pizza Hut Online, and those fuckers sent my password in plain text. GG. |

Sorry OP, that sucks so much Whenever I log in I check my Cashier and I'm always paranoid that it's going to turn up $0. I'm going to get one of the RSA tokens ASAP now.

Yeah but that has issues of its own. Like people transferring from your account to theirs. |

people can still log into FTP from different PC even if you're still logged in, it just takes 30sec and then disconnects the computer that's logged in |

not when they immediately change the password. you get ftp to email you a temp pw, and you can log in with the temp pw, but you can't change the password on the screen that pops up as soon as you log in. an error message pops up saying that you're still logged in and doesn't complete the login.
wow that actually sounds like a huge security failure. i should have freezed the account immediately when i saw that. FUCK ME. |

ok yeah next time your online account behaves strangely in any way at all (like your password not working 5 times in a row -_-;; ), I would send an email to support asking them to immediately freeze any account activity. I should have been more alert. |

What I mean is if random people are coming in and out of your house all the time some of them may have Pokerstars accounts. Then if you're not around or somewhere else in the house, and your account is logged in they can transfer funds from your account to theirs. I'm not suggesting that you're friends are going to do this to you, I don't know what kind of people you invite to your house or what the situation is. I'm just saying that its a possibility. |

well if the money is stolen via transfer, it should be really easy to get the money back.
the reason why it's impossible to get the money back is because the scammer chip dumps on the tables and there's no way to prove that unless they make it REALLY REALLY obvious over a very short number of hands.

that is a play 1 of my friends would make, he could easily just be fucking around with the money, not chip dumping. Which i guess is the problem |

Most secure in my humble opinion is running pokerstars as a user that is completely firewalled off except pokerstars servers and in a chroot jail.
On Linux of course. Anything on windows is not secure period. No, no. Not secure, period. |
