Some of you may be familiar with Oxfams "Unwrapped" shop. In which you can purchase a "gift" for someone, which is basically something useful for people in the third world instead of buying something stupid for your friends/family.

One of the items is a donkey.... but "why a donkey?" I hear you say;

1: A donkey is extremely useful to a family living in the third world.
2: They are hardy animals
3: Humorous poker analogy
4: They look funny
5: Price is reasonable to collect for a poker forum

So here is how we are going to try it this time around.

The first step is we are going to purchase ONE DONKEY:

Donation per person will be $5 USD per person (14 people)

Total donkey costs about $70 USD. (converted from the NZ Unwrapped shop)

Depending on your feedback you can either; send money directly to me or we will get Meat (or another LP admin) to escrow the money if you feel uncomfortable with the idea. We can sort among the first 14 participants.

So there are 14 spaces open for the first donkey. HOWEVER we will have the option to purchase additional items/donkeys/other charity ventures in this thread. Reserve spaces will be left incase people opt out/cant be reached/dont send for the first donkey.

PLEASE KEEP THIS SEMI ON-TOPIC and dont get into any rants about other ways money can be spent / other items / charities / political discussion / etc. Until we have the first Donkey sat at the table grinding for a family in need of aid.

on a more serious note: i'm glad we're helping people. If word of this gets out maybe it helps the Poker Players Alliance with the petition and everything...shows that we care a lot and don't use our winnings to buy hookers and blow, but instead we help those in need.

TheTank I dont think its really all that beneficial to the poker community. That said I really hope everyone who donates receives infinite karma points and runs good for at least $5 worth of hands (lol)

I think pretty much everyone on the forum plays for an amount these days in which $5 really is negligable. Whether it be 1/10th of a BB or 1 buy-in.

Its a little something we can all give up as a community that we really wont miss, but will hopefully have a huge effect on some peoples lives. Its a funny world in which we live in, hopefully we just made it a lot easier for someone out there. We will never meet them or know them - but we know we took little bit of our time out of our lives to make a big difference to their lives

Yeah goes towards a donkey aswell as donkey related stuff. Like educating a family on how to maximise value from their donkey and other donkey care stuff to ensure long and healthy life of the donkey. (we dont want him to shoot his stack off straight away)

Its more fun to imagine literal donkey shipment though. Either way its hugely beneficial for a family in the third world.

We run good so there are exactly enough people to make donkey 2 purchase. Which makes it a lot easier from an administrative point of view.

Please check that if you have donated that you are listed - I have listed usernames as they appeared in my transfer email from stars. I have had exactly 27 transfers of $5 (plus myself) so the books should be balanced but I may have messed up some usernames.

Good job! Donkey 2 will be taking his seat at the big game of life any minute now.
