Day 3 of the Main Event has been played, and we're almost in the money. This is when you want to excel and that's exactly what our fellow LiquidPoker-players did. With Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier as chipleader, and Ludovic "Cutsss" Lacay as 2nd in chips, the two French players are dominating the field that still has a few other LiquidPoker-players in as well.
As scheduled, we would play down from 2,044 to around 800 and by 0.30 AM it was done. 810 players remained while over 1200 left the field. Only 162 to go before we're in the money, and still a lot of world-class players are in the field. Yesterday we saw Phil Ivey amongst the chipleaders, today he hasn't earned much and is still in with 371,000, about 1.5 times the average stack. This was also due to the fact that he got placed on the table with ElkY, not the table you want to be on , although that probably goes both ways. From last year's final table, Dennis Phillips, Kelly Kim and Peter Eastgate are still in, they're all with with an above average stack. Other notable players still in? Phil Hellmuth, Isaac "WestmenloAA" Baron, Cole "CTS" South, Justin Bonomo, Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi, Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul, Kenny Tran, Chris Ferguson, Vitaly Lunkin, JC Tran, Joe Sebok, Paul Wasicka, Andy Black, David Williams, just to name a few.
For LiquidPoker-players, it wasn't a bad day, even though we lost a few players. Of course, ElkY and Cutsss are chipleaders, but a lot of other players are still in as well (if we miss any, please let us know):
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier 1,380,500
Ludovic "Cutsss" Lacay 896,000
Blair Hinkle 542,000
Patrick "BigRed0000" Stemper (listed as Patric Stamper on wsop.com ) 480,000
Julian “thewh00sel” Parmann 373,500
Christopher "chris" Giannell - 373,000
Brian "BJLTNYK" Taylor 331,000
Hevad "RaiNKhAN" Khan 272,500
Markus "LURPED" Gonsalves 211,000
Quentin "MiPwnYa" Lae - 164,000
Benjamin "straate" Straate 51,000
One of the best hands of the day had to be a sick calldown by thewh00sel, described in his blog:
| I started the day with 200k in chips and after the 2nd to last level of the day I had only 100k left. I get back at 1500 3k and stack a 55k stack with aa vs ak. Then I chip up to 240k. Then this hand happens. I raise 44 utg to 7200. Owen crowe defends the bb. Flop is Qs 8c 2c. Owen checks I cbet 9500. He raises to 25k. I call. Turn is an 8s. He fires 50k. I'm pretty sure I have the best hanf but for whatever reason I just call instead of shoving 150k more. The river is a 3 of spades completing a backdoor flush and owen shoves. He had been shoving a lot of rivers with the nuts and been overall sick aggro so I think for a few seconds and call off all my chips and he had a 37o. So my biggest pot of the tourney I won with a pair of fours. After that I chipped down a bit and ended the day at 373k with 800 people left. |
Nice hand! Best of luck to who's still playing the Main Event. Today we'll see who makes the money, let's hope all the above do. They will play down to 400 players, or 4 levels, whichever happens first and it will start again at 12.00PM local time. Live updates will be shown on the WSOP-website, as are the chipcounts. |
