Possible yeah, and the computer as well. (register edits don't come in to effect before restarting the computer.

I'm pretty much out of ideas right now but I'll think about it and will come back if something pop up in my mind.
You could try simple things like switch the usb slot the network receiver is in and moving it around but other than that I'm a bit lost.

Can I ask you btw. why are you using wireless for a desktop? I thought just getting yourself a stnd network card and cable would be much cheaper and efficient. I've always myself avoided anything wireless because I tend to always face problems with them.

excuse my ignorance but whats the difference between a standard network card and a network adapter? my laptop works fine on the wirless network, i dont understand why my wireless network adapter wont work on my desktop, it is recommednded for use with the wireless router and its a new pc with no viruses or anything, think my only option is to get a long ethernet cable and use that.

I might be mistaken, your network adapter is a stick you put in to your USB right? this is what google leads me to believe when I google with the model name.
A standard network card I mean is just a card you put inside your computer and connect the ethernet cable in to, I'm not an expert myself either so its possible you have more knowledge in this field.

And wireless networks tend to have problems with vista because of DHCP and it seems to have problems with other things as well, if you're willing to do "extreme" changes you could try installing Windows XP on a different partition and see if the network works better on that one.

i rang netgear they said it wasnt their problem it was something wrong with the pc so i would have to ring dell, which i did and after 20 minutes they said they would charge me 57 pound for a call out or 99 pound for 6 months software warranty because i involved a third party might as well get a long ethernet cable.
So frustarting

You might need a new network card for your laptop.
