It's your lucky day, birthday boy. I have been studying health/nutrition for a while and very intensively. It has been my main focus since January. I also started working out not so long ago and have experience with many different diets. I have figured out what is the best diet for me and have progressed immensely and can offer you advice. I'm thinking of making a blog about it soon where I would detail everything that I do and start tracking my progress.
But generally speaking, what you want to do is obviously reduce your fat intake, and only consume healthy fats such as avocados, coconut oil, flax seed oil and fish oils. You might also want to spread your meals in 5-6 smaller portions instead of the usually 3 meals a day thing. You want to get around 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Any more than that is going to waste/transformed into carblike energy.
If you don't already own a blender, buy one. It is going to be your best friend in this journey. It enables you to make quick meals that are high in protein and easily assimilable. The best blenders are the Blendtec and the Vitamix. You will want to start supplementing with protein shakes/smoothies. You can use whey protein but make sure it is Grade A. This is a good one: http://www.iherb.com/Jarrow-Formulas-...afiltered-Powder-2-lbs-908-g/343?at=0
I use bio-fermented rice protein powder. It is much more expensive than whey but is of much higher quality too. http://www.iherb.com/Sun-Warrior-Prot...tutal-Flavor-2-2-lbs-1000g/17661?at=0
Also, if you don't eat much raw fruits and vegetables, you should supplement with a good multi-vitamin. This is a good one amongst others: http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Adam-Superior-Men-s-Multi-120-Tablets/380?at=0
As for quick healthy snacks, these are the bars that I personally buy when I feel too lazy to prepare food. The 'Protein' one has 22g of healthy protein in 1 bar. These are the healthiest nutritional bars around. I usually eat them for breakfast because I am too lazy when I wake up to prepare food. http://www.iherb.com/Organic-Food-Bar
Happy birthday. |

You could also buy some suplements that can help you to increase your performance at gym, like Creatine, or buy the new marvel of those substances, more expensive but faster results MRI NO2. I bought it and it's really amazing |

I agree with Creatine. I wouldn't take any of that synthetic crap though. |

It isn't a synthetic substance, is an "improved version" of creatine created by the same guy who introduced the creatine |

But it's just emerging on the last years on the bodybuilders world, that's why it isn't recognized as much as the creatine |

I wasn't speaking of that product in particular, I hadn't even looked what it was before making my post. |
