So as I think I mentioned in a previous blog, I went to India. Just got back last friday. I have been sick for the past week with about every symptom you can think of - fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat, diarrhea, etc. Finally feeling better today.
I went to India for a work trip. For those who don't know, I work part time with a non-profit called PeaceJam (site is down for updates as I post this). We do work with Nobel Peace Prize winners and youth all around the world on both an educational program and service projects. Lately I've just been the web guy (built the site which is linked above with a friend) but I also help at conferences as an MC. No, not a rapper, it means "Master of Ceremonies" and it means I just kinda direct things from the stage.
Here's some pics from the trip for ya'll to enjoy.
Cruising India
1 billion people means you gotta share space on the road
Hiyo
Lone biker
Cross walks don't exist here
Uh oh's the police pulled us over
3 men - 1 bike
Roadside fruit stand
Take that walmart
It's much more colorful there
Sadar that looks like worf
Public transportation
Done driving, now hiking to a waterfall
Here's the first, baby waterfall and pool
Locals and tourists going for a dip
Me, my GF, and our friends Laurel and Dave
Further up the waterfall is another cafe, a much cooler cafe
This one has a swimming pool
And a snake coming out of the wall
And lot's of cool paintings on slabs of rock - definitely a cooler cafe
We hike up to the second, bigger waterfall
That water is all snowmelt and FREEZING
Shirts off time
Who knows what those marks are from? A prize for the one to guess it right!
Chillin by the water
Ok, now we're at TCV (Tibetan Childrens Village) for their sports day
Big crowd
Indian lurking over my shoulder
This is at the conference - me doing my emcee schtick
A game we play called "human conveyor belt" - it's like crowd surfing
Teaching everyone how to play Human Knot
They had fun
Me with some old friends
Sorting trash for recycling - This is one of the service projects the kids did
Sorting
Picking trash up and hauling it to the sorting pile
This is the audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the 3 Nobel Laureates.
Me filming
Preparing before they came into the room
Me filming again
This sounds like some awesome juice
Holy crap their special treatments can fix just about anything
Me and My GF - slick photographer ftw
Dave meets a cow
Totally out of order, but this is on the way to india

it looks like a method used by doctors years ago ;o I dont know how to describe it, but they used something like a glass bubbles, and a fire stick to remove the air from them, then place them right away at ur back.
If you were to visit doctor in India, I wouldnt be surprised if they still used it, but ur marks are way to regular for that I think ;o Looks familiar thou.

ROFL!
Yeah you guys basically figured it out - the things on my back are from cups they use during tibetan massage. They don't do the candle thing they just have like a screw or something. It actually works really well for me, it hurts at first but in the long run it relieves so much pain. I was also getting a sore throat at the time and she did 2 tiny ones on my neck and the sore throat went away, it was crazy.

I guess they're so used to seeing her now that it's no big deal anymore. Plus she has an account here on LP though she never plays poker these days, been too busy.

Delhi is a fucking horrible mess - avoid it at all costs. If you fly into delhi then plan to get out right away. It's the worst.
Dharamsala is the nuts. Definitely go there and hang for at least 1 week and just chill. Lots of nice places to eat and get a massage (not vegas sex massage, all clean, but like 5-10 $ for a good massage if you find the good places). It's also cleaner and overall beautiful, up in the mountains etc. Plus it's where the Dalai Lama lives and there's lots of tibetans around, so it's a very different vibe than the rest of India in a good way.
The only other part of India that I like is Goa and Kerala, which is basically the beaches in the south.

Yeah, it would have been the most wonderful trip if it wasn't for getting sick the last 3 days! Delhi was a pollution mess. If you can stay away from big cities- I think India has lot of diverse beautiful places and cultures to see.
