so those 30,000 cap game are equivilant of playing with 30bb stacks each hand? That does seem fair variance filled ;o.

Correct me if I am wrong but is the difference between playing 20bb's (short stack) and 30bb's (a cap NL game) really all that big. I mean, yeah, the extra 10 bb's probably give people some extra room to maneuvre around and leaves some play postflop but I can't really see it leaving loads more play to be done postflop from short stacking and don't manage to see the big difference.

Can anyone explain this ??

well I don't know if you're even wrong but I'd suspect that it's quite different because you have +50% chips and I imagine that has a pretty big impact on how you play

It has to be a lot of difference, the basics on shortstacking (which 99% of you met especially if you play FR) are all based on maths which consider 20, maximum of 25 or less BBs.

I have no idea how you play in a 30 BB cap game, but from my experience it's safe to say you have to have a different approach.

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold.

How is it short stacking. They'll have the same 'short stacking' strategy.
Does that make sense?
IDK I hate cap games - just seems like a lot of variance.

PanoRaMa   United States. Dec 07 2009 19:56. Posts 1655

It's high variance but fish like it and there is actual strategy in it and isn't just jamming blind. Scubba/moonshine is really really good at what he does and to compare him to some random 2/4 russian shortstack would be totally wrong

there are many spots that CAP and 100bb NL share that have the same PSRs, so bet sizing is important. The only things that come down to pure math are squeezing spots and jamming spots (which don't really make up the majority of the game, only just a portion), the latter which can get pretty light and thus very very high variance.

fwiw I don't play cap anymore nor do I consider myself an expert, but I have written a 6 page strat guide on cap (that I share only privately) that is heavily based in specifically game theory and managing PSR in diff scenarios. If I were to try to write a guide for 100bb NL of course it'd be tons of pages longer but I'm sure an actual 20bb shortstacking guide is prob like 3 sentences long.

well no one is ratholing in cap games...

vlseph   United States. Dec 07 2009 23:33. Posts 3026

differences:

shortstackers take advantage of players by playing against people who are not short stacked.
cap games everyone is going to be the same effective stack or roughly the same.

probably a lot more but I don't know all there is to cap games and short stacking, but this seems like a huge difference.

Probably means SPR which is stack to pot ratio.

You're pretty wrong there it's a lot longer, but indeed most of it are charts and / or basics. Also there are at least 2 different ways to play SSS, one involves 0 post-flop play, the other just a bit (the chinese farmers who infested PS FR lately seem to be playing the former, although in a really flawed way).

But let's not derail the thread with this any further
