I dont post much here but i feel exactly like you man
Been a pro for almost two years, a lot from live poker the money is still good but i really dislike poker right now...
There is just no social interaction like in a normal job, the swings are always depressing even after years of playing and it get so boring so fast
I wish you the best of luck |

cool man good decision. used to play with you at prima 2 years ago or smth, thought you were pretty solid
im kind of in the same situation, just graduated from high school, poker as only focus and dont really have any friends who grind anymore. i def see what you mean, its a boring and shitty lifestyle to just be grinding by yourself even if you make a decent amount of money. i prob will go to university as soon as i can, but i think i still will play poker to pay rent, travel etc |

The games are getting tougher and its pretty smart to get out when you still have $ instead of going insane trying to recapture old glory (if you believe you cannot improve much).
I had a buddy who absolutely killed lower stakes FR but then he just started seeing where game was going. . He never played a red session. He'd always have to end up green or he'd go insane. If he started down or had a bad swing he'd play for 8 hours til he was green. He started to see that always winning wasn't possible and that he didn't have the emotional control for a stronger game so he quit cold turkey about 1 year ago.
He was winning at about 7BB/100 at nl100 when he quit. |

My girlfriend has a double major in finance & marketing and just got a really nice job starting at 70k a year and she loves it. Do what makes you happy, you are obviously smart and good enough at poker to have that be a plan B if your ever in a bind for money. |

If she touches you 60% of the time, and is aggressive with her tits, you have it get it in before she crushes your nuts on the turn | |

I'm back at school and changed my degree to computer science from pure math. Going from a lonely grinder back to the school environment is so mentally stimulating. I fill up my free time thinking about new technologies and program iphone apps for fun.
It took me about 6 months to fully quit poker mentally in terms of not thinking about it at all nor having any desire to play anymore. You have to replace it with something you're passionate about and you'll get to a point where you'll have zero desire to play poker at all. This might sound weird but I love my thoughts now. My brain is stress free and I can concentrate on ideas and problem solve for hours. When I was playing poker my attention span was really short. I'd be talking to friends and replaying hands in my head at the same time. I couldn't focus on anything really because I'd be emotionally involved from losing/winning from the last session. I would not trade this brain state for 200k/year from poker.
My recommendations are to think about surrounding yourself with the right group of friends that will inspire you. Ask your friends who have jobs about the culture in their company. Read some books about ideas that inspire you, maybe some entrepreneurial books. |
