I would say a lot of famous people are geniuses. A lot of them came to fame as a result of it. It's pretty amazing how people take for granted the talent and work needed to make a "hollywood cut and paste" movie or a simple catchy pop song that's well produced. I have had a chance to meet some well known people and i don't think it's a coincidence that one of the 2 people i considered to be the best speaker/story teller just happened to be famous. He is also 100% in the top 5 most of intelligent people I've met lifetime.

and the word 'genius' is used for that very small margin of people, not for the likes of Gaga. your misplaced sentimentality for her and her works is clouding your judgement. she's a successful pop artist, not a genius. i'm not hating on her at all, i'm being realistic. there is no evidence whatsoever that she has above average intellect. and her musical talents pale in comparison to some people who don't even have 0.01% of her fame. it's just irritating to see you people screaming about how talented someone is when you compare them with the most insignificant people instead of the significant ones who you will most likely never come across because of your own interests precluding it. but still, it shouldn't be fucking hard to realize the difference in talent between a GaGa and a Mozart, unless you are 12 year old.

you fail to understand how luck plays a huge part in all of it. success, i mean. you seem to assume it's all about the talent or mostly about it, but it's the reverse. it's like in poker, if you are an amateur and you end up making the WSOP ME final table after entering a $1 satellite online, you have had a waaaaaaaay luckier course than most. but sure, there is some degree of talent needed to make it there, impossible to quantify -but- professionals who have made a living off poker for decades have a pretty good feeling about just how lucky this person is because they can tell by experience.

you are there, being able to move and do what you can do, at the right time, and that's all there is to it. this girl isn't more gifted in music than darvin moon is gifted at poker. but she did what she had to do and had the 'courage' of stepping through this world of fame, which not anybody could do, but its a mere trait of personality, nothing that attributes her with some special talent. the only thing that i know for sure is that she is a hard worker and very productive. we're very far from the definition of a genius right here.

the reason why pop culture should be shun upon is because for the most part it indirectly promotes inauthenticity, whether the performer is aware of it or not, they are far from being authentic when both composing and performing, their goal is TO ENTERTAIN, not to express themselves. the music lacks any sort of depth because it has to reveal itself to the listener for all it is immediately. there's no work to do, no patience to be had, no nothing left for the listener. imagine watching a movie by which after 5 minutes of the movie you already knew the rest of what's going to happen because it's so predictable and dull to you. it's the same. it's not challenging, and its entertainment value is shortly lived for me because it's essentially the same and its completely uninteresting.

there's nothing "cool" about not enjoying it. why should it be cool to be genuinely disinterested in something? it's arrogant to state that it's arrogant to have a dislike of prefabricated pop culture 'art' when there is so much beauty and authenticity in art that is always there to be explored. why waste my time with contrived music. none of this makes me arrogant, it makes me passionate, and it makes you clueless if you cannot see the difference.

by the definition of genius that i gave, from a leading dictionary genius seems to describe someone who is say 1 out of 500 not 1 out of a million or 1 out of 50 million

i've watched her interviews and i can accurately judge that she doesn't display out of the ordinary intellect very easily and so should you. seems pretty clear to me that she wasn't quite the most brilliant girl in her class back in school. in fact, people who tend to have as main interest fashion will not have very high intellect, that should go without saying...

this is getting redundant - she has talent, but what she had is a lot of luck, before everything, and the main argument is that her amount of talent doesn't compare to people who do qualify as geniuses, which makes it very clear that she's not -- even when she doesn't open her mouth. her music and her whole act is very very simple and one-dimensional and very very catchy. she deserves more points than the other plastic modern pop stars because she does do a lot of her own work, but, again, we're far away from genius here, and it doesn't change the fact that she's working within a very limited framework because it is pop music that has to be able to make it to the radio/TV. the only creativity she can portray is in goofy costumes which don't display any talent, they just display that you have a lot of good designers working for you.

this is talent, perhaps even genius, and this is true creativity not working within some limiting framework. see the difference with gaga. you will most likely hate it, but just for contrast's sake:



the technique, the voice, the audacity, the complexity, everything about it. it's much more colorful than anything ever done by gaga. the room for creativity should never be limited by anything.

There are no buts, lady gaga is boring, common and devoid of any talent. I dont know about her intellect(even tho Im sure shes dumb as fuck) but even if she was a genius her music is still shit.
