I've noticed that over the last few years it's been very hard to find a good game to play, especially something with high re-playability. I've been playing video games as long as I can remember, starting with the original nintendo and the first mario. Even played atari while visiting my grandparents since they had my uncles old one in the basement. Owned a sega genesis, super nitendo, nintendo 64, playstation... and then I got really into computer games over consoles once I found Warcraft 2.

That developed into a love for BW to satisfy my strategic needs and counterstrike to satisfy my shooting needs. Those 2 games were my staple games for ages. I'd always play them and try to get better, and as new games came out I'd play for fun, often just the single player, and then move on.

Well it's been nearly 15 years of those 2 games and as much as I love em, they definitely feel old. And then I found MW2 to replace CS and the beta came out to replace BW. Same shit different games.

But for the last few years before MW2 and the beta came out, I've been hunting for new games. Only a few have been any good and all of them have only been good for single player. Once the game was beaten it was shelved. I started buying lots of new games looking for something awesome, either to replace CS/BW or to at least give an experience like halflife did, but very few were up to par. I blew quite a bit of money on shitty games and realized I should be playing demo's first. heh

Anyway, here are the few good games i found over the last several years. Sad how short the list is:

Batman: Arkham Asylum (fun game and gives you a fun few days feeling like you're Batman, but once you beat it no desire to replay)
Farcry 2 - (Almost super awesome but not enough attention to detail, especially with AI)
Bioshock - (entertaining at first but I never finished it)
Gears of War - (great single player but never got into multi, then it stopped working cause Microsoft games are stupid)
Portal - (super fun single player but once it's over it's over)

And here are the games I tried and either hated or the game fell short:

Call of Juarez - (crappy cowboy game)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl - (hated)
Left 4 Dead - (repetitive)
ARMA: Combat Operations - (Sucked)
Company of Heroes - (Boring)
Empire: Total War - (Snooze)
Lost: Via Domus (and I loved LOST at the time I played it but still pretty meh)
Sniper Elite - (good idea, mediocre execution)
FEAR - (meh)
Newest Tomb Raider - (they still haven't figured out controls imo, she's an idiot and annoying to maneuver)
Mass Effect - (just started it and it's pretty mediocre, and all FPS suck compared to MW2 lately)
Call of Duty World At War - (but I got it on Wii which probably fucked it up)
Fallout 2 - (I like the idea, hate their execution of a FPS / RPG, as their FPS sucks)
Ghost Recon - (a newer one which sucked, but my comp also couldn't handle it very well so didn't give it a fair try... still, felt like it would suck even with a good comp)

I know I missed a few (good and bad ones) but I think that gives a good list. Have any of you guys played any of these games??

Oh, and I'm thinking of trying the newest Resident Evil - anyone play it?

We have pretty similar tastes in games, in fact I'd say identical. Right now all I play is Team Fortress 2 for competition, FarCry2 for beauty and single player run n gun, and got back into L4D:2 recently. I never played the first L4D b/c the game just seemed obviously boring and reptitive. I bought L4D2 because people just raved about how much they loved the game, and I got bored of it after about a week. Just picked it back up 2 weeks go and have been playing pretty regularly on expert mode only. Maybe I wasnt playing expert before or maybe they increased the difficulty since I last played, but now I love it, especially finding a group of guys to complete multiple missions with.

Games I have ready waiting to play (all PC):

Asassins Creed
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Dead Space
Gears of War
GTA IV
Mass Effect
Mirror's Edge
Resident Evil 5
BATMAN

Im looking forward to most of these and looks like I have plenty of hours queue'd up for entertainment, which is great since it gives me a distraction from poker lol.

bye now

Surprised you don't like mass effect. Mass effect 1 and 2 are some of my favorite single player games. I wouldnt compare it to a pure fps it's mostly an rpg with real time combat.

Assassins creed 2 is pretty awesome, i never played 1 though but i heard it was worse. Fallout 3 is great too.

I play Team Fortress 2 also for online play.

the 90's was the golden age for gaming imo

console
tekken 2
resident evil 1 and 2
road rash ps1 (lol)
magic the gathering ps1
nba live 99
mgs 1 and 2
the sims

graphics and concepts blew your mind at the time they were released

pc games
diablo
sc
cs
civ

everything now is just the same shit and they cant push the console's power to it's limit like they used to

Also watching james bond movies now sucks since ALL of his gadgets are pretty much for sale online lol

Oldies are still the best T_T all these flash graphics etc doesn't make up for the fact that the gameplay sucks a mighty fat cock

One day good. One day bad. And some days, even hope

Heroes of Newerth (for multiplay only, and needs a LOT of practice/learning)
God of war (1/2/3) definately classics that you might like

Expect the worst, hope for the best

Mass effect is rly good, combat did take some 'acceptance' imo but like above poster said its more of an rpg w action. I tried ME when I first bought it and was like 'wtf this combat is gay, peace' but then I gave it a second chance and it caught my attention, I finished it. Same thing is happening with dragon age: origins right now actually.

I have a similar gaming history, played a ton of SC and CS (and D3 and some MMO's for me), but the best times I have had in the past 2 years are with games like Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge and ME. I've found the sort of pick-up-and-play without having to seriously hone skills is the most appealing to me now.. just a waste of time to get frustrated a lot with a difficult videogame.. real life has enough of that shit now that I'm in adulthood. Then again, here I am saying this when I have been playing heroes of newerth for the past 8 months and it is the ULTIMATE rage-inducing skill oriented game on the planet if you let it get you. Fucking heroes of newerth.

Really I think the most important thing is a novel concept/gameplay type, engrossing story/atmosphere, or exceptionally well executed gameplay. So mirror's edge was good because it was a well-done game with unique/new gameplay. Portal same deal.

I've also spent a lot of time on civilization 4.. idk if you have played civ before but its mad good..

I really want to play assasin's creed 2..

IDK just my semi buzzed ramblings.

You should try Team Fortress 2.What i like most in this game is that team work is the key to achieve your goal instead of just owning ppl
I'm also playing Dragonage origins (rpg) and i love it so far

You can not lose if you do not play

Suggestions:

Assassin's creed 1 and 2 (2 is better but you need to play 1 for the story to make sense)
Halo 3 (get it for the multiplayer. Campaign blows imo)
MW2 FTW
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Bad Company

If you want something really old go play Mario RPG for the SNES

final fantasy 13 was awesome. it only takes 50 hours to finish the story and 50 more to finish the missions, so ur not gonna throw ur life away like u would playing some other RPG.

im playing dragon age right now and its alright. It's an unofficial sequel to the baldurs gate series.

I'd recommend trying both. You can download dragon age on torrents.

Dragon age was cool till you could play 1 char and beat the game on hardest I thought, stopped around level 16

Also same problem, all other games became zzz superfast after sc, like I get bored and just, man this is shit so fast in every game, so last 5-7 years I stopped using consoles completly!

I miss the time where I was craving to play and I couldn't decide wether I wanted to play sc, d2 or Heroes xD

so true ^

Btw , i ve been thinking over it and other than the fact no decent games like that are produced no more,
there's the factor we getting older that stops us from enjoying games like in the past
plus pokerz!
