hi, i'm arya, named after my favorite character in a book series i'm reading. i'm 22, just graduated from NYU and currently working at a law firm and applying to law school next year.
i started playing brood war the month it came out, and pretty much sucked at it. i joined tl.net in 2003, some of you may know me as Hot_Bid. i still play the occasional team game with friends and i still watch replays.
i started playing poker two years ago, but only seriously for about two months (since LP.net came out, towards the end of november 2005). after graduating from college, i missed New York City so much that I moved there in January 2006 to be closer to my job and get away from the suburbs.
i've probably went from $500 to $2000 in bankroll at least 6 times, playing everything from 25c/50c fixed limit to $10/20 fixed. basically i was a giant fish who was decent enough to crush the micro limits but never had the discipline.
in september 2005 i peaked at $2700, cashed out $1200 and didnt play for two months. then LP.net came up and i decided to do the right stuff, get better, move up with good BR management, etc.
i started with $1500 @ 50nl and made $1000 in december 2005, and now i've made roughly $1500 my second month of play, which includes a -$900 downswing when i moved up to 100nl. i currently 8 table 100nl with $4-4.5k and i'm looking to move up again as soon as i hit 8k.
my goal is to hit 400nl by the summer and make enough to pay for some of law school, not that my parents really need it (my dad taught at nyu so it was free tuition) but because i feel i owe them so much. we came to this country with literally nothing, and my mom worked multiple jobs while my dad went to city college so we could survive in our ratty one room apartment, with barely enough money to afford a car. a decade later my dad is now the chair of his department and is the only non-ivy league graduate among his peers, and works 2 days a week teaching 2 phd classes and makes 200k/yr. they've made every sacrifice so that i can go to school, and i'm going to dump 100k of poker winnings on them when i hit it big. i know its kind of lame to be playing to pay my parents but whatever, i have enough fun in the city and enough money from my job. i just enjoy the competition and challenge.
i'm willing to chat pretty much 24/7 about poker and getting better, if you're similar stakes and similar situation as i am feel free to PM me and we can exchange info. |

Well im Baal duh, after even years of many ppl saying how many bazillion dollars they make out of poker i was in total denial, mainly because it pissed me off i didnt join poker soon enough, but Strafe gave me $10 to play on PS in exchange for spanish lessions heh, i think im pretty good, im a tight player and i really think i know when to fold, my current BR wich is $43 after a couple of days of playing, my goal is to reach $100 on PS and then go play with the $75 on PP and hoping as everyone says find a lot of fishes. |

my name is Arvydas i am 19 (20 in few weeks), started playing poker 2-3 month ago, after friend suggested me. I was always sure that poker is just a game of luck but then it was BW wcg time. Lithuanian finals were going on in the Vilnius(capital of Lithuania) and my friend suggested to meet for a beer we met in some restourant and he started telling how poker changed his life, how much he earned etc.. he took me for a ride with his car which he bought from poker he paid for it 7k euro after this story i really was amazed but still i didn't see my self playing poker. The next day i won first place in Lithuania's bw wcg, and i didn't play poker but then i lost and took only 2 place in baltic wcg finals (only 1 spot went to final). That was it, i decided to quit bw and start playing poker after 1 month of playing i realised that all those years of bw was just waste of time. I started at ps with 10$ grinded 0.01/0.02 fixed tables for a month then moved to 0.05/0.0.01 fixed and then i reached 100$ i decided to gamble and lost my whole money on 1/2 fixed limit table, then started all over again then lost again etc.. now i am playing 20nl i am pritty happy were i am and i don't rush to move up limits i cash out as often as i can, durring my poker " career" i totally cashed out 1100$ half of the money i spend on my monitor and other just wasted with gf, also i have lost a lot on BJ. But i think i got over it now when i am on the tilt i tend to take a break and everything is fine again |

I see so many people jumping too early to bigger stakes, probably its frustrating to play 01/02 and win pennies, but i think its the only way to really make a solid approach to this game, i will move to 10NL after i get over $100 in 5NL |

Hi im Marco.
I've played bw since 1998 and my nicknames were iD.Probe, iD.Rocklee, Princeofwgtour and nB)Oink.
I'm a student and I work partime as a croupier in Holland Casino, working a lot on the poker table as well. I've played a lot of offline with my friends. But besides that I'm not really experianced in poker. I know the basics and I have tried to play online once, but it wasn't a big succes. Offline I'm a tight player but I like to grap some blinds with bad cards as well. I have liked hold'em for over 3 years, but since 2 months i've studied 7 stud poker and to be honest I enjoy 7 stud more than hold'em.

Hi, my name is Hal. Never really got into that Starcraft thing; played it casually, but I came across teamliquid.net and thought progamers like Boxer and Julyzerg were cool. They were playing at a level I could never come close to reaching, so I eventually forgot about Starcaft (sometimes I still watch VODS) I came across the Poker discussion threads, and decided to deposit $50 into Pokerstars for the hell of it. Went broke because I didn't know what I was doing and was prone to tilt. I decided I would have no more of poker until Liquid`Meat opened up his promotion. I figured what the hell, and messed around on Partypoker for a while. Eventually I cashed out and decided to move to Pokerstars-- because party wouldn't let you play at micro limits for very long. I waited a long time to deposit on Pokerstars in the hopes that I would get a bonus, but that was a waste of time. Recently, I started playing on Pokerstars again, grinding out micro limits and small buyin tourneys. I really haven't found the time to play poker; can't sit still lately for some reason (maybe because school started again) and as a result my progress has been pitifuly lame. I continue to read these forums here, in the hopes that I'll learn to be less of a fish.
I have acquired like, 1 vpp, which was deleted because of the new month.
Also, winning $4 pots makes me happy. -_- |

Yeah, I'm Jeff, I just turned 18, I've played poker since I was 14 (I learned with Klogon and Yomer). We started out playing .05 .1 cent crazy version of Hold'em where we had the first two cards of the flopped first because we all agreed that betting with just two cards was just plain reckless. I remember being so pissed if I lost 5 bucks.
Over the years, we upgraded, play every weekend at this community center place for a year and a half (we'd play .25 .5 NL, made hella good money for a 16 year old, I thought), but some old people reported us so the cops kept coming and kicking us out. After we stuffed the pot with monopoly money once because they always checked our chip rack they weren't so nice.
Now, I play NL 6 handed games on party poker, with an SnG every once in awhile. My friend loaned me 300 bucks there, I turned it into 400, paid him back, and have been climbing since. I still have a ton to learn, I overplay aces, I misplay my two pair, I make fun of fish too much so they leave the table, but hey, life's good.
I like to play baseball, basketball, chill with my friends, and play poker. I want to thank everyone here, especially the admins, for helping everyone with their game. It is great to have a place to go where people are just as passionate about a game as you are.

OMG I REMEMBER THE WEEKLY POKER NIGHTS AT MY PLACE. Wow those were good days...like 4-5 years ago was it? ;o Our version of Texas hold'em is what everyone should play! Hell, you get to see 2/3 of the flop before even starting the bets! Too bad I moved out too quick to take those kid's money And i'm so going to play that old style with friends again! |
