Been rollercoastering so hard for a long time emotionally, and it is always such a close reflection to how poker has been going in the last couple days. Obviously this is bad and just trying to "will away" negative feelings really just doesn't work. Like we all know it comes down to balance.. I hope I am making my way towards that as I head into my 2nd week in the gym. I really want to get back into my pre-poker shape and then beyond, but I am afraid to set any real goals because I've mostly failed every goal I've set in the last 11-12 months. I'm just gonna do my best.

Today I randomly clicked on nanonoko and then navigated over to nolan's online results and found it really inspiring. I think I need some more inspiring/motivating type shit to enter my brain during these last 2 months of my poker shot. Cuz if I'm not reasonably solidly at nl100 by Jan 1st I need to dip out of this scene.

Something I've noticed over this whole experience is that it is very difficult for me to take what feels like a "slow and steady" path. Maybe its just how I've ran during my shots and early-moveups and having to move down again every fuckin' time. I dunno.

I feel alright right this second though.. so here goes!

well pokerwise have you tried coaching ?
It seems to me that you can really help some micro stakes players with their game and that should also help you feel better pokerwise and will also improve your game ... only thing left is if u have the time to invest in that

edit:
Also Lemon is def right im swinging the same way as u guys and im trying to prove to myself that i can actually succeed in poker ( and by that i mean get to 100nl and eventually grind it )

Last month i moved to another country having $ basically enough to live only 2-3 months i was facing a HUGE downswing up till yesterday basically making me go from 50nl down to 10 and i still wont give up
And to be honest if i werent the spoiled brat i am i wouldve succeeded long time ago

Its all about selfcontrol nothing more
Giving up means this game isnt for you which is just another way of saying that you are too lazy/arrogant/whatever to do anything

You are a lazy spewtard mofo just like me

Every single person can succeed in poker and play at least 3/6 with the right amount of self control and discipline, be it learning, right amount of volume, looking after your body and health so that your brain is always at its peak and you can play long focused sessions, to taking breaks, setting targets, reviewing sessions and being self critical.

Shit, thats hard to do and I am failing as well, not because I suck but because I am lazy or can't push myself to do all those things. And those things are simple easy and everybody knows about them.
But you know what? If you can't work on finding the drive to give something you thoroughly enjoy and that you do full time your best shot, then how the fuck are you going to succeed in life or any other discipline if you quit without doing things you set out for yourself and achieving your potential?

lol i dont personally know any examples but some of the things you mention that you need to be able to play at that level are innate things that not everyone has. not everyone has discipline, logical abilities, etc. its like saying everyone could play in the NBA if they were 7 feet tall but obviously not everyone is born like that.

Pretty much this. Its good to aim high and all, but theres a difference between achievable and dreams

Im only good at poker when I run good

my advice is to not take advice from people who aren't capable of doing what they're talking about or who haven't achieved the results you want to achieve. find the people who did and see what they all had in common and have a pragmatic approach/devise strategies to do like they did, and persevere. and don't neglect your real life for a game, always seek balance even if it seems unattainable.

in my experience the best inspiration/motivation you can get (the most potent source), comes from being able to see where you were and where you are now and feel like you're on the right track with your life. in other words it comes from being in touch with your intuition.

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccount

thanks all

thanks loco, I hear ya. meh problem is I have only gone downward for the past 10-12 months and I don't have much to look to improvement wise.. I guess I will be working out now and that is one basic thing I will hopefully be able to look back on my progress with pride next year

Anyone who fnished high school with math has the logical abilities... You dont exactly need to be a genius to be decent at poker.

And discipline? Thats completely learnable skill.

Maybe there isn't high school as high school, but 100% my high school which was technical in nature, had like 1% females and technical subjects where you were forced to use logic be it maths, programming, physics, electric circuits or technical drawing.

Ok that sounds ridiculous when I read it back, I went to high school in post communist country in a technical school where you were forced to use logic constantly, the standard is much lower in the UK and US and you can specialise and ommit those logical technical subjects -,-.
Lets make it anyone in top 50% of population in terms of mental ability.

Imagine someone within top 50% of mental ability would have to beat 3/6 at 1bb/100 within 3 years OR DIE. He would do everything possible to move up and every minute of his life would be driven entirely by poker from sleeping, eating, excercising relaxing or developing self to working on his game.

Do you seriously think there would be many who would die?

dunno, not too interested in talking about fantasy land scenarios.

was just addressing your initial point that everyone had the ability to play high stakes poker which youve since agreed is probably not true.
