wasted a couple of years of my life I guess, got hardly anything to show for it except a permanently stress-shriveled brain really.

going to take an indefinite break could be short or long

variance is the farthest thing from mild in this game.. just a headsup

damn I tried so hard

bleh I could be back quickly but im not going to try to make any predictions.

now to face infinite shame as I try to rebuild every aspect of my life as well as face my peers.. i only hope I have the strength of mind left to get back on my feet

i might come back and blog a bit about my time spent as a poker player but idk if I have the energy

thank you to all of you who put forth encouragement, hand advice, etc. over the years.

cu guys later

here's a graph

I do hope to one day make a triumphant return but that seems like a longshot

you know i'm surprised your whole career from when we played nl20 on cake together till now you only really played 6max cashgames.

player99 inspired me to play some HU sngs and tbh they are a lot softer than any cashgames for similar stakes. might give that a shot and see if you have any success next time you get interested in playing

NOOOOOOOO! seriously come on bro...you broke the micro barier after so long, just 10k hands back you took shots at NL200, surely you can't quit now?

^ look at that graph, its beautiful.

youre obviously on massive tilt, coz theres no way thats all variance. Expecting to lose/get coolered, thinking youve wasted 2 years of your life and having to face your peers have destroyed your game.

I know its hard to be positive in a position like this, but take a break, identify some places you made mistakes and come back swinging.

this, I played pretty much every game except for Badugi before finding my place, you cant be so close-minded, not everybody can be TTom

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

Was that your whole bankroll night? Think it's pretty obvious you probably tilted it off towards the end, even if you dont know it. I know it's hard once you've lost like half of it, you feel you're basically screwed anyway so might as well just keep going till it's all gone. Since you can beat microstakes, I think you should offer some free coaching to micro players or something, just to keep your head in the game and to rebuild your confidence. Helping others puts you in a positive frame of mind, and before you know it you'll be wanting to get back in there at NL50 or NL100 or something you know you can beat.

bye now

Only way you've wasted your time is if you quit totally now and don't shake up your approach to the game. Try some new variants and see how it goes.

the games you own at, end up owning you

I disagree with the people above. I think you should not play poker. And I don't say this to be a huge douchebag. I just feel like maybe you can't handle the variance if you get emotionally destroyed as this. I mean, I don't think I've had it as bad as you have. But I know that what you are going through right now is not the first, and certainly not the last. And most definitely, not the worst.

to be honest with you it looks like you simply went through a standard 10 buy in down swing at 200nl and just got screwed by variance for double the amount. It's only 12k hands man, it can't say that much about your game. Just remember, a win is never as good as it looks and a loss is never as bad as it seems. If you busted your bankroll, i would definitely redeposit and continue to grind whatever stakes you're most comfortable with. And if you did busto, it's pretty obvious a 20 buy in shot is going to be suicidal in the future. I think giving up now after some major improvements you've made within your game over the last year would be a huge mistake. GL with all this no matter what you choose.

NeillyJQ: I really wanted to prove to myself I could beat NL200, I did over a small sample, and believe Ill be crushing there in the future.

nonononon, definitely needs to take a long break. At least a week if not more, to the point that he's no longer depressed about the losses but drooling at getting back in there.

bye now

lol at everyone begging night not to quit. let him take time off jesus.

some real advice man: i was in similar position to you. i think you should just go back to school/get a job and live life outside poker for a bit. after some weeks (months for me) you may get a desire to play. what will happen is, you will keep checking LP, you will see things happen that make you think "i remember when i was doing that." you can deposit some small amount of money online and for fun, in your spare time, play on the side. you will do that for a while and after winning at poker again, you will be tempted to just dive right back into it, but you will be smart and you won't. you will keep working, building a safety net for the future with resume experience, at the same time as building a roll. eventually you will reach a desirable stake (probably 100nl or 200nl again) and will have the cushion to be able to take another shot. you will still be young, you will have saved up money and will have a bankroll, and you will be able to find a job if you need to. you will be able to find a job that you dont really mind doing, that pays you better than minimum wages, and it would be easier in future since you have experience and recommendations.

you need some time off to get your life together. don t let poker fully consume you, or it will ruin you and make you a jaded and depressed. it can change your outlook to pessimistic.

do not let that happen. poker isn't worth your life.

also, night, do not feel any shame. you met some cool people, who are your friends, right? that makes the entire ordeal worth it. you got to travel some, meet cool people, experience ups and downs, and lived 'a dream' to a lot of people, even though we know it to be a grind.

take some time off to reflect and everything will be better in time, i promise
