Thanks Lemon, I appreciate your concern and I do hope the best for you also.
I really don't know what came over me today... Well I do actually. I know myself and what I do when I'm losing. I shouldn't have let myself even sit down at higher limits (which I have been successful at so far in my poker career until today). Do keep in touch w/ me.. seems like we're in similiar situations from your descriptions lol. |

Btw, I think you have a gambling problem. Like, I don't have a gambling problem and you know why, because I don't know how to play any other game other than poker. And despite owning a convenience store and working there from time to time, I don't buy lottery. I don't like variance. You on the other hand was casually playing shallow tables for flips. That is something I would never think of doing.
What happened today sucks. It definitely does. And I think you may be evading your feelings here, but I'm sure in reality, you feel like shit. It's okay to embrace it. I remember losing 20BI in January, and despite my best efforts to put on a cool face about it, I was pretty upset about the whole ordeal (although it's nowhere close in monetary value as yours, but 20BI to me at that limit was a lotsa money for me). But as always, your case simply isn't the worst of it and won't be the last for many poker players imo. It was an aggressive, thing of the moment shot at highstakes. Variance could have been really kind to you and maybe you would've made few Gs from it, and who knows what would've happen after that.
I think you should spend some time away from the tables and just relax. It might take a while for this defeat to sink in fully. You are asking for stakes and such already, and I feel a bit of anxiousness here. You can't play poker anxious. You'll play bad and get in ugly spots that way. |

If anything is certain about me is that I don't lie to myself. I don't have a gambling problem. The 1 table flips is something I did while doing hours of studying for the final to keep me sane lol.
I think the reality hasn't sunk in yet but I've been much more upset over losing 4-5 buyins at my usual limit because I played like a complete donkey.
Even if I made few g's from it I would've went back to 200nl after Finals week was over until I felt ready enough to take shots at higher stakes.
Again I'm honest w myself and I've done lot of preparing and asking around for coaching and such when I was moving up from micros. I was overolled between 25-50nl but underolled for 200nl when I decided to take a shot. And it was because I felt I was ready and recognized how little or a lot I've improved between a certain time period.
I probably am going to take couple days off yes. You're right, I am feeling a bit anxious....
I'm not too serious about the stake though. It's something I'm keeping in mind in case I somehow bust my 1k roll (plus over 1k$ or so in vpps) and I have another 1k on Carbon sitting around.
Thanks for your advice. |

You played very dumb. I can just tell this by K345 stacking off so incredibly light UTG v UTG +1. He's a nit who doesn't like to fuck around ever.
People were just sitting around waiting for you to bust. Don't try to rationalize your plays. Your reads and understanding of the entire situation was incredibly off. You made a huge mistake. Don't make it again. |

Dear JHyun88,
I would like to offer some consolation! I definitely feel for you (lost 5-6k in the past few days, albeit at my normal stake). I've also been in your situation before (played higher and didn't stop) and I relate a lot to the way that you feel.
When I was still in college I had some of my roughest sessions especially around exam time. I remember tilting 8.9k away a few days before Christmas because I was away from family in Taiwan. To make things worse, it was finals week as there was no Christmas vacation - school went on break end of January (Chinese New Year time).
Looks like there are some useful responses in this thread so I'm going to read them myself. But right now, I'm in the same spot as you, down a bunch with confidence shaken. Power up man! Feel free to PM with contact info if you want to chat sometime. |

Quite sad that you threw away such a huge portion of your roll, you're def a promising player judging from the bit I played with you, your posts in general and your results at lower stakes this year. Bit of discipline and you'll grind back up in no time I guess, prob best if you don't try shot taking with like 6 buyins in your roll next time though |

One day good. One day bad. And some days, even hope | |

Thanks for advice Maynard. I was aware of my image but I took it too far still.. I did try to nit up a lot towards the end.. It won't happen again
Exalted: will do just that.. always nice to have someone to discuss w
Midian: Thanks, I just had a moment of craziness during all this exam materials @@. It definitely won't happen again. I wouldn't even call it shot taking because it's not something I ever would normally do or did in my previous "real shot takes." Good thing I left myself with something and FPPs. I can start grinding 100nl again asap.
This feels kinda like when I had to take a class during freshman year that I already knew everything in because I had to and yet paying an expansive tuition for it... |

Alright well, I seem to have grossly overestimated there then. I'm sure you'll be fine, just keep grinding. Good luck, hyung |

Well I'm not exactly busto If I scrape money from Carbon and FPPs I should have around 3-3.5k
Hopefully I don't do stupid shit again.

i told you responsible gaming tab was your only out in situations where you could not trust yourself. it's there for a reason and more people should use it.
to be very frank this was an insanely stupid move, you could have just bet 5k on shogun and today and get to flip at 1knl later when u win 8k after the fight |

you gotta start thinking how this severely crippled your chance to actually move up legitimately. and you begin to see that the difference is quite huge. i've felt the sting of its realization several times while cashing out, playing drunk, playing underrolled. constantly remind yourself where you want to be in the not-too-distant future.

also,
ffs man be more serious in school. when i got into the cycle of winning a lot and losing a lot to stupid reasons i barely kept up with school at all. i played poker all night, drank, had fun and skipped exams (some finals lol) the next day and stupid shit like that. now i have a college degree that means jack shit and i regret that a lot.
even if youre graduating in a semester or two it's still not too late to build relationships with your teachers and other faculty members. networking is one of the most important things to get out of ur years in college and it's not at all emphasized by others. i clearly realize it now when it's too late. they are the ones who have the power to open up opportunities for you and they're right in front of your eyes! even if you don't get a job right out of college, things might open up later and you're going to wish you had someone to rely on for references.
so it's not to late to salvage your college experience. don't throw it away because of online poker. it can wait. just be a little more patient. |
