What does the $ swing have to do with their business? They get their fee either way if it's an exchange, and an exchange has two parties agreeing on a price. Does etrade stop allowing withdrawals because stocks move in price?

+1.
are referring to some sort of risk aversion from wallets that offer hedging options while the transaction clears?

I don't have the links, thought I posted them here tbh, but quite a few wallets or exchanges stopped letting people withdraw due to volatile prices. If I can find the wallets/exchanges, I'll let you know.

However, with massive volatility, they (the people who own NYSE and such) stop the markets. I forget what it's called, but it's used to prevent HFT from doing into hyper drive, even though they are already there.

That's super rare and only really in place to prevent computer glitches from crashing the market. I'm guessing bitcoin exchange owners are heavily invested in bitcoin and have incentive to freeze the exchange for a bit to prevent a sell off.

Scary moment now with China completely pulling out. I think OKCoin and other chinese exchanges have all stopped allowing deposits. China went from 1200 while we were at 1k in USD to 500 while we're at 600. The chinese exchanges will likely close up shop if they can't find some way around not allowing deposits with CNY. Seems silly to think the Western Central Banks won't try to stop allowing BTC to grow in their countries as well. With that said, I'm still not selling what I have, but I'm waiting a bit to make any more purchases as I think we will test the old 400 level in the US as well.

Dynamic collar is on the european exchange and i imagine on others aswell. The idea is that if the price moves +10% or -10% in a rather short period of time there will be a reservation period where there is no trading and orders are canceled before resuming. It isn't super rare but rather an exception. I'd guess bitcoin has had many spikes similar to what can be seen daily on a stock exchange. It doesn't have to be a computer glitch or even HFT. Computer trading programs and algos or w/e else require someone watch over them. Also human mistake when entering an order can send the stock into treshold.
