I'd buy on bitsamp if I was to buy, but not sure if I should buy now. Does the money processing still take a week @bitstamp?

I read today that Auroracoin, an icelandic cryptocurrency, has the 3rd largest market cap in the world behind Bitcoin and Ripple. On 25th of March every Icelander will be given a chance to claim his 31.8 Auroracoins which are currently valued at $93 each according to http://coinmarketcap.com/

Can anyone explain to me how the value of this currency is increasing although it hasn't been officially launched yet? I'm also interested in any general comments about this currency if anyone has any insights on the subject.

Here's the main website for Auroracoin: http://www.auroracoin.org/

Thanks.

Auroracoin is already trading, hence the price variations

It just has not been given to icelandics yet

In my opinion it might crash since I think the market capitalisation is mostly fake but ultimatly I have no fucking idea and I could be totally wrong.

Auroracoin is 50% pre-mined which has not yet been distributed. It will allegedly be distributed among all Icelanders that have a valid identification number.

The true market cap right now is about $8,092,000 because there are 102,875 coins in circulation. Mining has begun only recently so the current high price is very likely the scarcity of them. Once a distribution takes place, the existing coins will be worth much less because such a large amount of them will suddenly come into the market.

I think if any country is ready to officially adopt a cryptocurrency, Iceland would be a prime candidate. Icelanders are very open to technological advances in general and our fiscal policy is crap. The icelandic krona was equal to the danish krona in the 1920's. Today the danish krona is equal to over 20 icelandic kronas. BUT...I left out the best part...in the 1980s Iceland removed two zeros from the icelandic krona. Which means that the danish krona is equal to over 2000 original icelandic kronas. So the icelandic krona has devaluated over 99,99% against the danish krona since the 1920s. Last year our federal reserves introduced a new 10,000 ISK bill. If we hadn't removed two zeros from the krona in the 80's this would have been a 1,000,000 ISK bill.

But, enough of that. I wanna know if I should auto-sell my 31.8 Auroracoins instantly when I receive them or not?

The future of aurora depends on icelanders, it depends on how viral the airdrop gets, and if it gets viral (in iceland ofc) will developers handle it well?

The thing is if it gets viral its value will still get lower than it is, so there is no Money to be made from hoping it gets viral, its seeing a massive pump by whales, if you could short sell after the release it would be like printing Money.

Yeah you should do that, being icelander you can try and sell it before you get them, that means today, how do you that? i don't know but you could see if there is a way.

In all honesty, I have no idea how one goes about selling/buying Auroracoins.

Buy/sell Aurora at this exchange:
https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/160

It may be possible to short this, there is a next-evolution altcoin that allows for betting options, its called counterparty. I haven't had enough time to look into exactly how. Anyone care to read a few thousand pages, do some testing, and report back with a how-to?

You can't, not with a trustless source since you don't have the coins, and when you get them if their value was higher you could keep them, but if you could you def should sell.

http://nypost.com/2014/03/05/bitcoin-firm-ceo-found-dead-in-suspected-suicide/

Autumn Radtke, a 28-year-old American CEO of bitcoin exchange firm First Meta, was found dead in her Singapore apartment on Feb. 28.

Local media are calling it a suicide, but Singapore officials are waiting for toxicology test results.

Radtke formerly worked with Apple and other Silicon Valley tech firms on developing digital payment systems.

Radtke’s death brings the number of questionable financial sector deaths this year to eight.

On Feb. 18 a 33-year-old JPMorgan finance pro leaped to his death the roof of the JPMorgan’s 30-story Hong Kong office tower.

Li Junjie’s suicide marked the third mysterious death of a JPMorgan banker. So far, there is no other known link between any of the deaths.

Gabriel Magee, 39, a vice president with the JPMorgan’s corporate and investment bank technology arm in the UK, also jumped to his death from the roof of the bank’s 33-story Canary Wharf tower in London on Jan. 28.

On Feb. 3, Ryan Henry Crane, 37, a JPM executive director who worked in New York, was found dead inside his Stamford, Conn., home.

A cause of death in Crane’s case has not be determined until a toxicology report is complete, according to a spokesperson for the Stamford detectives division.

The report is expected within two weeks.

Two other bankers have also taken their lives outside of JPMorgan.

On Jan. 31, Mike Dueker — the chief economist at Russell Investments and former Federal Reserve bank economist — was found dead at the side of a road that leads to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington state, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. He was 50.

On Jan. 26, William Broeksmit, 58, a former senior risk manager at Deutsche Bank, was found hanging in a house in South Kensington, according to London police
