Hey, I've known you guys for many years. A few days ago (coincidently it now appears) I was in Singapore and my friend Genjix (whom many of you have a poor impression of because he's a little brash when he talks)... well he called me and paid for my next day flight to Amsterdam from Singapore. Last few days I've more than acquainted myself with Bitcoin.
He has the Britcoin exchange which is the Bitcoin exchange for the UK and while it has little volume the software is working perfectly. He recently gave a conference talking about Bitcoin which received tons of attention and is getting offers to make exchanges in many many countries. These new exchanges will be working under full legal status. That is not to say that the one Genjix operates now is illegal but there is no legal status regarding such a new innovation... as well as Genjix's exchange is not run for profit.
Genjix first got interested when trying to create free software for a poker client because of the feeling that rake on some sites was excessive. Disapproval by the 2P2 and LP caused him to focus on developing Bitcoin and he has added greatly to the software/movement in the last few months.
Now it is getting much publicity and Genjix is on the forefront of this, one of the few people completely knowledgeable about the code/software/market et cetera. Due to recent events there may be a stronger desire for an open source poker client to be produced.
I'm just making this thread now to let the community know and I will explain some things if there are questions although I have a lot of other bitcoin related work to do.
There should be a Time article coming out tomorrow about Bitcoin being the future of online banking, IE not having to pay transaction costs, exchange costs et cetera. It is hard to think of a world where bitcoin or an exactly similar software isn't second nature to us and it is only a matter of time before people stop paying exorbitant fees for things that should cost very little.

What is Genjix working on right now? I heard it is something big. Any idea why he's keeping it a secret?
Edit: Asked the same question on bitcointalk and a random guy answered "Start up Governments". Wtf?

bump:

I'd like to open the discussion on the following:
1.The recent btc rally. (don't really see a reason to buy at this point, but what to do? Hold? Sell?)
2. Upcoming July 2016 BTC Halving
3. Ethereum. (What's your play, how to buy, and since it's pretty new ppl can discuss what it is exactly if anyone has questions, etc)
4. Just your general crypto plays

so basically stay away from all money since they are all " magic " - have value as long as people believe in them
i just heard about etherium as well is it worth investing in those? seems like they are somewhat " new " and should be growing as big corporations endorse them as well |

heh. Ethereum? its pet project the "DAO", which made first place as the largest crowd funded project at $160 million was just hacked hours ago. and it's leaking money right now as we speak. this guy has been updating us on the whole situation https://steemit.com/thedao/@xeroc/ong...on-thedao---eth-draining-from-the-pot

and now the Ethereum devs and founders are in a dilemma. it's either 1) do a hard fork, roll back the transactions done by the hacker or 2) just let it go and save whatever ether is left in the DAO.
option no. 1 is a big nono in crypto. the minute they do that, they show everyone in that community that Ethereum isn't decentralized. and that goes against what they're all aiming and working for.
option no. 2 shows how incompetent the creators of the DAO (also the founders of slock.it) are and this would reflect badly on Ethereum because it is considered as their pet project by their community. to make it clear the Ethereum network itself is fine. it's the DAO that has flaws.
all in all, both options would make Ethereum some sort of joke, then we see a bunch of devs abandoning ship looking to build their stuff somewhere else. do I see Lisk as an option?
and btw... i was kidding about staying away from the magic internet monies. |

Do you guys forsee this Daobacle thing as an indicator of
Loss of value, short eth
Or
Do you think as this winds down it could be a great buying opportunity?? Go long?
Me personally I'm think #2 or at least it's possible.
It seems a bit tricky buying eth tho. So I'm going to check out a bitcoin thing on meetup.com to get help, figure out how to buy eth at a minimum in case I want to make a small bet going forward.

no developer, researcher and company will take ethereum seriously after this. i expect this to go below the top 10 at coinmarketcap in a few months. just like nxt and bts, ethereum could become irrelevant.
