Maybe your grandmother has a problem. Research to see if she could be suffering from some sort of compulsive gambling type addiction thing here. Perhaps she is just doing this for the thrill of it. Unless she's rich, 22k is way too much money to be dropping for a first investment. Most people tend to dip their toes in the water, get their feet wet. She just dove right in like "lulz fuck it!".

u don't understand

it isn't that easy, in any respect, to take away your grandmother's handling of her finances. she isn't retarded, exactly, she is fully lucid and it would be an incredible blow to be told she could no longer have control of her own money.

if I went after the scammers instead, well I don't really know how. I can yell and threaten them and then they can call the cops on me or I can tell them the facts of why I oppose them and they can ignore that (cuz they know obv..) and just know to start building shields specifically against me via grandma

there is no way to win at all here

talked to my dad about this. i guess one of the first things to go as you get older is the power of discernment. she might not have any mental disease yet but sounds like she lacks the above.

only thing you can do is get power of attorney over her money

These arent the right threats. Scammers prey on the ignorant, you need to sound like you're educated in the manner. Threaten them with legal assaults, let them know you have an attorney, that you will call the BBB, your state attorney general, etc etc. Someone else in here mentioned some of the legal entities that would apply (You're both in Thailand right?). Threatening to kneecap them in a parking lot is just gonna let you laughed at. Threatening to sue them over fraud will get their attention. But dont just go threatening them right away using these buzzwords, because they'll see right through it. Do some homework first so you can sound like know wtf you're talking about.

Or just let your grandma learn the hard way. If she tries to send them another 50k after losing the 22k, then she has a problem and it's time for real intervention. Someone needs to declare her mentally unfit to handle her finances or something. Otherwise hopefully she'll just give it up once she gets burned for the initial 22k and finally owns up to the fact that she's not that good at this sort of thing and that she has a big bullseye painted on her forehead. I'm sure there's a certain element of pride at stake here, and until she admits it to herself she'll continue to think she's right and you're wrong. Let the facts speak for themselves.

did you look into my suggestion? -__-

i agree with you that trying to away her power to handle her own finances is probably not the way to go unless you are truly at a dead-end with no other options left, regardless of whether it works or not (and if she's still lucid as you mention it probably won't) there's a good chance it would ruin your relationship with her.

  1) contact the consumer fraud division of your state's attorney general office, and 2) contact the securities commissioner. gogogo

I'll see if I can get a number and call those people up to see if I can get a straight answer on if the way they promote their stock on the conference call is legal

You dont even necessarily have to call them, just tell the scammers that you did. That will hopefully freak them out enough by itself.
