NOO February
PanoRaMa, Feb 05 2009
So after rostuckoing my ass, I'm back to where I belong. FUCK.
Been taking 2/4 shots under the watchful eye of my new coach who destroyed 2/4 last year for like 200k or something ridiculous like that. Clearly it has not gone well.
Some sample hands, deep at 2/4:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/625624 - Guy overplays his KQ and gets there
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/625620 - Turn J is like the best card in the deck, of course it gives him quads.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/625668 - Actually won this one though
Well, the month is still young. I just cashed out some more moneys and now I'm going back to 1/2 and grinding it like crazy there 12 table style. Also did AWFUL in the FTOPS 1 yesterday but that's not gonna deter me from playing even more FTOPS in hopes of super robustoing the shit out of my career.
2000BB Pot + Craziest Session Ever
PanoRaMa, Feb 02 2009
So I'm not so good with telling stories but I just played the craziest session of my poker career.
Overall I spent roughly 23 hours playing with only a 2 hour break in between 2 sessions.
The story is a bit long so Cliff Notes: Long swongy session where I'm stuck huge, get bad beat to get stuck huge again, then play a 2000BB pot for the mother fucking win.
Sunday Morning I wake up at 1 and immediately start grinding after making myself some cereal + play the Sunday tourneys. Those don't go well at all, I lose all of them and barely cash in the Second Chance, and also lose some FTP tourneys as well. I lose in my Poker session and just call it a negative day.
However, hours ago I had waitlisted myself onto a table with the biggest known donator fish at FTP's Mid Stakes, http://www.pokertableratings.com/overview/yl08dw
I got into a table and immediately started off losing. The guy is known for playing 1 table only, but monstrous sessions. So I load up more 6max tables and immediately start grinding again. Things just get even UGLIER and I declare war on the koreans at FTP for doing shit like raise/calling a 4bet jam with K9s and hitting vs my AQ etc. etc. I get into a massive variance war vs a bunch of preflop aggro koreans and end up on the losing side, and suddenly I'm down 18 god damn buy ins. What a shitty start to February.
So I close the 6max tables besides the one with the huge fish, and start focusing on that. Note that this is around Midnight. I also end up playing some hu tables as well, all in an effort to get myself unstuck.
For the next 16 hours I would play mostly just the table with the huge fish though, which is why for such a long marathon session I didn't get in many hands as the hands past the 5k mark are mostly 1 tabling. The fish was REALLY difficult to win against, it seemed like he was making a pair every single hand or a legitimate draw and I kept missing flops. This would be a reoccurring theme over 1300 hands it was VERY VERY peculiar. But anyway, it's kinda funny what you can learn about someone's game over the course of playing with them for 16 hours Then, a big hand goes down:

This hand absolutely frustrates me to no end, literally got it in as a 95% favorite, 450bbs deep and getting owned. I felt like absolute SHIT at this point because I was back down to being -3k but the difference is I just pulled an all night and it was now near Noon time and I'm back to square -5, and only 100bbs deep against the huge fish I just spent 12 hrs building a stack against.
It was a good thing I somehow managed to control my tilt, because I just kinda told myself that I won't be leaving the table til he leaves or I stack his ass. Three hours later this goes down, and will be my biggest pot in my career probably for a while

Yep, 2000bb+ pot and I got to ship it vs the huge fish . Now I'm up on the month instead of being down a gigantic amount (18 bi), although I haven't slept in really 28 hours so I'm feeling kinda tired now, but still definitely happy about how things came about . A peculiar, yet good start to February I guess.
January Final (~20k!)
PanoRaMa, Jan 30 2009
Technically my January isn't done because I hope to bink some sunday tournaments (OOPS NVM), but as far as cash this is as far as I'll go for the month because I LOVE the feeling of ending on a great note. Combined with my 12k tourney luckbox win, this makes it roughly a ~19k win on the month w/ rb and with tournament loss deductions, and my best month to date. Thank god for that tournament too, don't know how satisfied I'd be if I just ended on 6.5k.
Also for those that have kept up with my blog, 2 months ago I wrote about how I made 10k in a day (yay tourneys), but also got "dumped" that weekend by the girl I liked for 2 years. On January 15th we got together though . So Overall this month has been REALLY fucking good both poker-wise and RL-wise. I wanted to get in a ton more hands but it's pretty hard with a gf etc . 45k is still pretty decent though I suppose.
Something that's really going to help with my grinding is that I'm starting to experiment with 12 table 6max grinding. Mixed results so far, but overall decent I would say. It allows me to get in like 4k hands a day without really feeling that burnt out, and it also allows me to not level myself as much. I'm not even playing that nitty, still roughly 24/20, sometimes like 22/18. Will be 12 tabling the shit out of February I'll keep updating about that.
GL everyone!

December Results
PanoRaMa, Dec 31 2008
Gonna quit December early. Obv run goodaments right?
My only justification is that it still doesn't make up for the -4k or w/e in equity i ran last month, so no hating. Overall a solid month I guess, was sick for like 5 days so I didn't get to play as many hands. This wraps up 2008 wherein I'm up an estimated 50k which is like 100k below my goal so fuck that. 2009 goal: 150k.
I'm taking a break off from school next quarter (3 months) to focus on grinding. I hope I don't regret the decision, I plan to put in at least 150k hands 6 tabling 6max which I know isn't much to some of you . Very crucial next 3 months though.
So that this won't be a boring entry, here are some notable/interesting/funny/OMGHATELIFE deep hands that have occurred throughout the last couple months I thought I'd share/complain about:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/584973 - A high value bet/3bet, river call for value vs reg
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/588855 - My biggest pot ever lost, to the biggest drooler on FTP (guy is literally like -170k over 50k hands)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/588856 - Pretty lol hand against same fish
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/591452 - 2nd biggest pot ever lost, KK vs AA 460bb deep HU
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/593376 - 300bb preflop wars vs my nemesis, get it in crushing and lose obv
wbcoop etc.

Ending Nov + Random Shit I Bought
PanoRaMa, Nov 28 2008
Ending November early, all good seeing as how I hit my hand goal anyway. As far as cash games goes, it was yet another huge disappointment, but thank god for my previous 10k winnings in tournaments. Combined with rakeback, various other poker-related income, and donkaments, I'm probably up around 10 or 11k ish this month. Amazingly, one of the better months in recent memory for me, although still a big, big disappointment.
Peep the sick EV.
Eliminating the ev/showdown graphs, just to show how swingy my month was.
Given how shitty my life has been this fall once I started school again, I decided to start pampering myself a bit more. I'm eating expensive food once again (a habit I stopped around the Summer in an effort to conserve money), and I'm buying myself a bunch of presents here and there. I'm making money for a reason right? Lately I bought these:
Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 505-Watt 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System
PlayStation 3 Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel
For my copy of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue that I just bought (and will be getting GT5 when it comes out). I love racing games and play a lot of Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 at the arcades if any of you are familiar with that, and I figure going from that to a playstation game that's supposed to be "realistic" (and holy shit it is) but playing it on a stock ps3 controller would just be a huge cop out.
Also bought Left 4 Dead the other day and have been playing that with a few poker homies, it's pretty good anti-tilt .
GL everyone.

---
My weekend has been a rollercoaster ride. Friday started great, class wasn't too boring, I got back and immediately started grinding. I'd already put in 30k hands this months 6-tabling, which is pretty impressive for me. I broke even playing for like 3 hours, and quit. Later that night, I saw my favorite multi-tabling nit fish on. There's no way I can express in words how ginormous my edge over this guy is, so I waitlisted all his tables and played. I ended up dropping 15 buy ins at 1/2 that night, which led to my previous blog entry titled "Worst session of my life". Feeling absolutely shitty about that, I vowed that the next day I wouldn't play poker, and go out instead.
So Saturday comes along, I had made plans to go see Quantum of Solace with the girl I've liked for 2 years. Without going into details, she recently broke up with her bf and lately we'd been hanging out a lot and getting along great, which is saying a lot because we clicked really well even while she was in her relationship. I'd hate to sound like a pussy bitch in front of the hip LP.net crowd but that night I confessed to her and well, it wasn't like I was outright rejected or anything but whenever you tell a girl you've liked her for 2 years and the words that immediately come out of her mouth aren't "pls bone me now <3", then it's never really a good thing. So, with the implication that my feelings weren't mutual, I ended up dropping her back after we ate, and I drove home fucking miserable. I really can't describe how I felt that night, it was weird, almost surreal. It's like my life was a god awful dream wherein everything that could go bad for my life was doing exactly that.
People say that money isn't important, other people also say "fuck bitches", but no matter what, everyone can agree that the safety of their loved ones is a huge priority. Well, I woke up today and found out my parents had to evacuate our home in Southern California because of the fires. I'm not there right now (at my apartment near my university), but just knowing that my parents were being forced to evacuate and that my home could easily succumb to the fires really troubled me. Well, nothing I could do - the freeways to my home are blocked, so I just had to sit at my apartment doing what I can only do best, play fucking online pokers.
Since this is getting long I'll just wrap it up now. I played today, immediately started heating up a bit in cash games, and played a few Sunday tournaments, including 2 FTOPS events. Well, I managed to take 4th place for 9k in the Stars Daily Eighty and 300th (lol) for 1.2k in the FTOPS ME, marking it my first (and i hope of many) five-digit days.
While shipping it crucial in the tournaments, I also found out that the winds have started blowing the opposite direction in my hometown, meaning my house will probably crucial dodge the fire!
So I just wanted to share this story of how at one point within the same fucking weekend I was at an absolute low and now I'm rather happy . I'm still a lonely bastard but at least I'm not stuck on the month!
