In my last 13 sessions I've had 2 winners and 11 losers. Where's the suicide switch? haha
Just had my first winning session after 9 losers in a row, starting back on Dec 21st. That's exactly 2 weeks of pain and suffering. It was weird to hit hands, have them hold up, and be given good bluffing opportunities. That hasn't happened in so fucking long. I hope that this is the end of the downswing and not just a cock tease.
I wanna learn a bit more about the "investment world" and am hopeful that some of you LP guys can point me in the right direction. What books would you suggest? What websites? What do you use to trade stocks? Etc.
I know a few guys here have made a transition from poker to some form of investing (stocks, etc) and some play poker/invest at the same time, so I'm hopeful that you guys will give me some suggestions on where to get started learning about that world.
My cousins taught me the multiplayer over xmas and I'm hooked now, looking for some LP guys to play with. I have a grand total of ZERO steam friends, haha.
After getting hit by the holiday doomswitch and having 4-5 days in a row of pain I decided to stop and just enjoy the holidays since poker obviously just wanted to shit on my head and expected me to turn my face up, open my mouth and eat it with a grin.
Had a great time over the holidays with family. Just got back to CO last night and had a awesome new years with my lady. Today we went with my dad to see Avatar on imax with 3D. When I saw it the first time it was on a regular screen without 3D. Gotta say, it looked pretty damn good. I wish I'd seen it like that the first time, definitely woulda been worth the money.
Now I'm having a hard time getting myself to grind again. Taken 7 days off and the thought of poker provokes memories of pain right now due to that horrendous downswing. I swear downswings are the worst when they happen in times like the holidays where the tables are insanely juicy. So I gotta get my mindset back and get into the grind again. I think I was much more thrown off cause I was traveling, so I didn't have time to do my regular routine. I think I was more tilt prone. I feel like if I'd had the same downswing while at home, using my setup with the space to do my routine, then I'd still be doing much better right now. But there were a lot of distractions, a lot of physical pain due to bad chairs/desks/mousepads, and many annoyances due to not having my dual monitor setup. I feel like I've done a very good job of creating a solid poker routine and putting together my tools in a way so that when I grind I can focus 100% on the poker, but when I'm traveling all of that stuff gets messed up and my focus is torn away. Plus the physical pain is no good.
So while I've set myself up very well to play good poker here at home, I set myself up for hard times while playing poker traveling since I'm so used to my nice home setup. Gonna have to learn to adjust.
Anyway, this is basically just a ramble blog, as most of mine have been lately. Hehe
Ran like shit again last night. Santa did not deliver. Maybe he's waiting till Christmas day to make my dreams come true? I hope so!
On another note, Christmas is going very well and having a great time with family. Just wish poker mirrored that and then it would be so super sweet =)
So it's xmas eve. The tables are always insanely juicy right now. Just wrapping up the family celebration and will be sitting down to grind in the next 30 minutes or so. For the last 5 days I've run about 1k below EV and nothing has gone my way. If I run well tonight all of that can quickly disappear. So please, one time, run good! That's all I want for Christmas.
It appears eager little children won't be the only ones staying up late trying to catch Santa Claus. The FBI is getting in on the hunt after a man dressed as Santa robbed a bank in Tennessee.
Astonished and frightened eyewitnesses said the man remained in character the whole time and justified his actions because he need to "pay the elves." Said one witness: "It was a little unbelievable. He was actually jovial, which is scary. And he explained that he was robbing the bank because Santa had to pay his elves."
The FBI agent interviewed below does not seem optimistic that he will be caught: "Dressed as Santa is an excellent disguise."
Just finished Modern Warfare 2 campaign and it was pretty damn good. I like the way they do their campaigns with a very involved storyline. I prefer openworld FPS where you're forced to really think it through for yourself rather than having a set course, but MWF2 does a good job of giving you the illusion of choice and not feeling like you're totally forced, plus giving some flanking options now and then.
Story line was very intense, especially the fights in DC. Especially weird cause I'm on vacation in DC visiting family right now, so during the day I drive by and see all these locations and then I go play the game and they're all in ruins. Evokes some intense feelings.
Didn't care for the mission where I "pretended to be a terrorist"... I kept wanting to shoot the guys I was with but figured that wouldn't go well. So I only shot the security guards and police, didn't do the civilian slaughter. Weird that even in a video game that part of me would kick in and go "not gonna do this shit"
Overall the quality is really good, from the voice actors to the graphics. I didn't run it at full settings cause with COD it's really important to have the game respond smoothly since it's such a fast paced FPS, but even at medium settings it looked pretty damn good. And it ran really well. It's hard to find games that look good and run smoothly these days. So often they're built in a way where if your comp isn't juiced up then you're either gonna have a crappy experience or crappy graphics.
I never end up getting into the multi player but I might give it a try. This worked well as a de-tilt tonight after one of those 150 hand sessions where you get doomswitched for many buyins before anything can even get going. If I have another session like that I'll probably open up the multi player, or at least the special ops and take out the tilt with some mass killing. haha.
Definitely did not disappoint. I hadn't watched any previews cause I had a feeling it would be good based on what I'd heard and I'm glad I skipped em so that everything was totally new to me. I love sci-fi flicks and this one was top notch. Special effects were so good. It's sick what they can do now... it's pretty much limited to the imagination (and budget of course).
