Chased fish NL5000
edzwoo, Apr 01 2009
I'm such an idiot; this is by far the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life.
I sat down at my NL100 tables as usual and a random bought in for about $80 and some change, so of course I figured he was a fish. He basically would raise any bet I made roughly half the time, would 3bet me like every three hands, and he also pretty much never folded to 3bets. Basically, he was a huge high variance fish, but I think I was waaaaay +EV in this match-up because he was ridiculously spewy.
I wasn't really catching any cards, so he got up to even stacks with me, and then this hand happened.

Obv that tilted me a bit so I asked him first to sit down at a table, and he did, straight up $5000.
Now the reason I'm an idiot is because he bought in for $80 and change at my table, but now he suddenly has $5000. I mean either he just made some sick tilt deposit right now or he's trying to hustle me. I mean why would he buy-in for $80 and change if he actually had $5000? I didn't put any thought into it, and didn't even think about variance and sat in at the table.
I only played 4 hands with him. He won the first three hands because he just 3bet me twice and I had trash as the BB. Here's the last hand:

March and thoughts
edzwoo, Mar 31 2009
Started off March 24 tabling NL50 because I had no confidence in my game. Played about 6k hands and was playing and running bad. I stopped playing for a bit, watched some DeucesCracked videos, bought my new monitor and then started back up 12 tabling the new 50bb fast tables.
I was playing better but was running hot. Went back to NL100 and absolutely crushed it. Played some NL200, ran bad again but only dropped a few buyins. I barely played this month (27k hands but half was donking around NL50 mass multitabling).
I cashed out a total of $2800, when my roll was around $5000 with the intention of depositing it on other sites but that never happened and I never ended up redepositing LOL.
Right now I'm not sure whether to take aggro shots at NL200 or to stay at NL100 for a bit. I've taken 2 shots, first shot I got variance'd hard for -5bi, second shot I went up 3bi in 2k hands, but got variance'd again and dropped -3bi over a bit. I originally thought there was nearly no difference in the amount of fish, but if you table select carefully, you realize there is nearly twice as many fish at NL100 than there is at NL200. I'm not sure but after discovering my super secret formula to destroying everyone at NL100 (as mentioned in previous a previous blogpost), I THINK my true win rate at NL100 is bigger than 5ptbb/100. Oh and don't go flying back to expect to see some crazy insightful post because I pretty much just said, "play better" and isolate the fish more often.
Poll: What should edzwoo do?
(Vote): NL100 is good money, stay there for a while and cashout occasionally.
(Vote): Take aggressive shots at NL200 around 20-25bi
(Vote): Take shots at NL200 25+ bi
I don't want to start cashing out again until I've made a decision that I'm staying at a limit where I am most profitable. I am very good about taking a shot and moving down if running bad, so tilting my roll is not an issue. Another thing is for a college student like myself, beating NL100 at a strong rate is VERY, VERY good money. In fact, I could probably live off of it. Of course, if I'm only keeping myself to a certain limit, it's not nearly as +EV in the long run if I had the potential to be making more.
Some other thoughts I've been having is starting up a poker club here at UIUC and educate some fish to beat NL5 or something. I'm actually shocked that there isn't one, so it leads me to believe there is some rule against it, but I'll find out. If this goes through, I'll probably be posting stuff related to it on LP to get feedback from you guys.
Anyways, here are some graphs:

March NL100- gold mine
Numbers
Bonus pity graph- lifetime 80k hands -21bi ev at NL100
Anyways, good luck at the tables.

I've never had a 60/7 fish suck out on me so much in my entire life.
You know those fish who are like extremely high variance? They shove the river with their entire range whether they missed or hit?

So I just realized I'm a really weird person. I multitable 12+ fast tables, but I play very short sessions. Definitely need to get in more hands.
In any case, I took another shot and had my first winning session at NL200

I have discovered the secret to destroying everybody in NL100.
I'm running a bit hot but I don't think I'm on as big of a heater as it looks... it's a combo of being more aggro, folding more, value betting thin, and game selecting better.
Pretty good session NL100
edzwoo, Mar 14 2009
After moving down for confidence reasons and playing NL50, I was winning at something like 10ptbb/100, so I came back to NL100 with some confidence regained...

Opponent's strategy:
-Only 3bet Ax, min3bet only.
-Whenever there is a dry board, cbet/donk 2 fold to raise 100%.
-Check call/slowplay top pair and better, if checked to on river, bet a multiple of 5 closest to full pot.
-Bet a multiple of 5 with a pair less than top pair.
-Bet a multiple of 6 with an overpair.
-Check minraise as a bluff 100% of the time, as value 0% of the time.
-Bet 1-3 dollars with no pair no overcards.
-0% fold to 3bet.
-Never fold top pair.
I'm not kidding, these are his EXACT tendencies. It was literally like playing against a horribly programmed bot.
He kept hitting and hitting and hitting. And then he kept hitting. He would full pot rivers pretty frequently, which lead me to believe he was bluffing the river, but every single time I looked him up with a decent hand, he had the nuts. He would donk $2 on the flop I would raise and he would fold 90% of the time, and he did this at a near 100% frequency.
rofl I got owned.

ZOMG LOOK WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL TODAY
The Dell SP2309W 23" monitor. Unlike most 24" which run at 1900x1200 or 1900x1080, this baby's res max at 2048x1152. You can get it for about $300 here: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dell/SP2309W/
Here's my setup:
Yeah, lame camera phone pics, but whatever.
Now I can play more tables without missing action = bigger winrate AMIRITE?
