I'm done. That was fast.

One of the most brutal sessions in my memory

And after losing 8 of the last nine flips in the tail end of my session it was capped with this:

At least I got a taste of what it was like to win again the past couple days.

New Leaf
  OpWestAcct, Feb 02 2011

So after getting bashed on a bit by a buddy of mine via messenger I did some thinking. Before I always looked at poker as - when I was winning I was playing good and things were supposed to be that way. And then these horrid downswings of mine were just plain bad luck. I will not deny that I do believe my downswings are worse than a lot of poker player's but surely not the worst. However, I believe that the true cause of my swings are the fact that - when I am winning I have huge confidence and make more aggressive and bold plays resulting in a lot more dead money profited that I otherwise wouldn't obtain. When I am losing and on a downswing - my negativity instigates a lot of absurd action (calling down lighter because "I cannot be possibly beat this many times." I will have to work very hard as I do not understand how to clear my mind when I am losing. I'm sure many can relate with the thoughts I possess - no matter who you are - when you haven't had your AA hold vs KK in a month it wears on you. Poker is so easy when you are winning. It's when you are you losing you are seperated from the rest. I could be grinding 2/4 by now if I had all those thousands of dollars I lost because I couldn't fold my 55-JJ to a 3 bet or by not following my plan ("If he calls my double barrel on this board I cannot fire the river." Instead I am playing NL 50 again. Time to turn things around and now that I am back in school I want to set a goal to be a 2/4 reg by time I graduate (Summer 2013). I'm tired of whining and not taking the bad with the good - How the fuck can I cry when I am "unfairly losing" money I won off a game in the first place - not to mention poker paid for my first semester of school. Long read, thanks, and sorry for spamming the blogs with useless nonsense and stupidly declaring I would quit poker.

Feb so far

My first winning session since December 5th. And no, a winning day did not spark this insight - It was last night that I realized how idiotic my logic was. Thanks Nightless.

Edit: I was just given a random $200 by FTP deposited about an hour ago.... Anyone know what this could be for?

Insight Anyone?
  OpWestAcct, Feb 01 2011

Can someone PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD tell me: Is there some kind of switch that FTP has that they just turn on whenever they want? Once again then only time I flopped sets today it's on a FD+SD flop and either the opponent flopped the nuts or they flat and the worst turn always comes. I haven't touched poker since my last blog on Jan 11th and I figured I would give poker a 3 buy in shot today. The actual reason I did this was because poker followed the same routine as last year (Banking Aug-Nov and then never winning a session Dec-Jan and then making 40 buy ins in Feb). So I was hoping Feb would bring luck but literally I saw no change whatsoever since my last sessions. I am still losing the in most disgusting fashion. I posted a lot of hands today... Just look through and see for yourself. I have a buy in and a half left that I will play with tomorrow and if I lose that I will cash out my roll and never touch FTP again until sometime far far in the future.

Stats: 24/19/8.5 3bet/2.5 AF/77 Fold 3bet

Every time I log in and play now it never ceases to amaze me that this can still be going on. It just doesn't make any sense. When do bad runs end? Or does it depend on sources outside of poker? General luck/fate etc?

Bleak Future
  OpWestAcct, Jan 11 2011

So I took another six day break, came back and lost another six buy ins. And I am lost for words. This is EXACTLY what happened last year. I lost all of December and all of January and eventually had to cash out the remainder of my roll to pay for bills. I have about $1400 left in my checking and about $1550 left online. I am quitting poker again and getting my job back once school settles this semester. And I must quit now because I can't afford to lose any more money in case there are complications with me working. Wish I would have made this decision before losing another $600 today. So fucking depressing to think about how I had over 8k about a 40 days ago. Ugh, and the sad thing is, is that I don't have the will to drop down limits and grind out of this horrid stage. I'm just going to take the little money I have left and maybe make another heroic comeback in the future. Once I have my job back I'll try to grind some live poker.

Off to my first semester of architecture.

Wahhhhnn
  OpWestAcct, Dec 29 2010

When will this end? 45k hands/3.5 weeks/$4.1k - This just doesn't seem real. I have taken 3-4 days off between each of my last two sessions and just continue to lose horribly. I have booked one winning session since December 4th.

SLIT!!! So many times I would 3 bet broadway cards and I had so many people call with SC OOP and just ram me in the ass over and over. If I did hit top pair it usually followed with the worst turn and river coming losing me a lot of value or they just had me dominated from the start. 8/10 times I flatted 99-JJ to a 3 bet a King would fall on the flop.

December
  OpWestAcct, Dec 26 2010

Doubt I'll play anymore this month. Took a few days off and came back today only to get three more sets cracked. Disappointing.

Wondering when I'll bounce back. Last year it didn't happen till Feb (My downswing started the same time this year as it did last).

Welp
  OpWestAcct, Dec 17 2010

That's it. On 38 buy in downswing - 18 buy in under EV - of course that doesn't include all the times I flopped coolers. One winning session in 2 weeks. Gotta move down now and try to scrap together what I have left.

Today
  OpWestAcct, Dec 09 2010

About 2-3 weeks ago I told my self that a downswing was inevitable. That surely soon in the future I would run worse than I thought possible. Before I started playing poker again I had already experienced this. I went through 2 downswings over 40 buy ins and another for about 25. Well, it's here. It started off slow - Just barely managing to break even over the sessions I played this week. But today there was no mercy whatsoever. From what I remember over the 4k hands I played today I had 4 sets beaten, trips were no good 3 times, top two lost 3 times, if I made a flush or a straight today I am 100% certain it did not get paid off. I ran my AK into AA/KK 4 times. And ran my QQ/JJ into AA/KK 3 times. And of course AK > my KK FTW! I don't know what to really do or think right now. I am deathly afraid that this downswing will be like the other memorable ones where it lasted over a month. Just a solid 45-60 days of losing in the most disgusting fashion possible. I lost 14 buy ins today - 2 of which I remember I clearly tilted off - I usually use a stop loss but I just didn't think it was possible to keep losing the way I was - But it didn't stop.
