Thou Shalt Not Drink(and play poker)
  getsky, Jun 10 2007

I wrote this yesterday, but couldn't get onto liquidpoker..so double post today

Got off to a screaming start in last nights session, being up 2 buyins pretty quickly. I then proceeded to bluff away my profits, then hit a few coolers, and a misclick for a full buyin had me down 2 buyins. I then had a run of cards, flopping quads with J8 to crack AA in a limped pot, having AA over KK allin on the flop, and making a nice call down with QQ on a K high board in a 3 bet pot.

On to some hands.

Hand 1
I repop a raise and 2 callers from the BB w/ AK off. I get 1 caller in the SB. ON the flop he bets something stupid like 3 into a 30 pot. I almost just went all in there, but something held me back. Turn is a K, and he pushes all in. Snap call, ship me the monies.

Hand 2
I RR from the button with QQ. There is a K on the flop, and it goes CC. Turn is a blank, and he fires 11 into a 14.75 pot. I think for a while, and call. Bad move maybe??? River is another blank, and he insta bets almost pot. So 3 things led me to make this call. First was his river AF is 7 or so, second was the fact that he insta bet, which I find usually means a bluff. Finally was the size of his bet. It seemed to me he was just trying to get me to fold. I got berated by him for making this call, saying he would have AK there most times. MEH..I went with my read and it paid off..doesn't always work that way.

Hand 3
Limped pot, I flop 2 pair with 2 aces on board. Opponent weakly bets flop and turn. I am pretty sure I have the best hand here. I figure an A would have bet more. So on the river I fire out a blocking bet of 2 into a 7.50 pot. He thought forever, then raised me to 6. I figured his long thinking was him trying to figure out WTF my bet meant. Maybe I should have folded on the river, but again, I went with my read.

Hand 4
An aggressive player raises from the button. He has been doing that a lot, so I repop from the SB with AJ off. The BB calls, as does button. I wasn't worried about the SB, he is 88% VPIP..lol. Anyway flop TPTK and bet 15 into a 25 pot. SB folds, and button raisis all in. Now there was 2 spades on board, and this guy is quite agresive, he could do this with any jack, or the draw. I didn't put him on a big pair her because I figured he would have tried to get heads up with me PF. So I call and he tables KK. Bad call or what, not sure.

Now for a dumb ass play by me.
Hand 5
This guy had played every pot since he sat down. I figured him for the type of player who would call off his stack with any pair. (There are a few of those at NL50). So I push on the riv with TP 8 kicker. MEH

And for the grand daddy of them all.. the reason not to drink when playing poker.. is not because your judgment is impaired...no it is your coordination when trying to fold as fast as possible when you accidentally call all in with Q high

Hand 6
I 3 bet this guy here because he was stealing tons. The other guy was a moronic 60+VPIP, so I tried to take it down on the flop.. rest is gay

Another Good Session
  getsky, Jun 05 2007

I put in a 1000 hand session tonight. I started at NL50 and got up 4 buyins pretty quickly. Then I started doing stupid things like always. I managed to get back to being up 2.5 buyins, and decided to take a shot at NL100. My roll was around 800 and the plan was to drop down if I lost 2 buyins. I've played NL100 alot and feel as though I can compete pretty well there.
won 1 buyin pretty quickly before calling it a night.

Couple of hands

Hand 1
Fuck I am stupid..dunno wtf I was thinking here. buddy overbets the flop, and I have 2nd pair.. I think I am ahead so I call. Turn..he overbets again.. I still think he has air, so I SHOULD have called to see what he did on the river. BUT like a fucktard, I raised allin..possibly thinking to myself I didn't want him to hit an A or something I dunno really. He cought 2 pair on turn. meh

Hand 2
I raise it up in the CO w/ 910 off. I get min raised by a new guy at the table. I call obv b/c of odds. I flop top pair and cll him down every street. STUPID. I put him on a big hand with his min raise PF.. I think calling the river was just dumb as fuck..wtf did I beat? only a bluff.
what do you all think?

Hand 3
Nice little bluff on the river with 6 high. I put him on a FD. Good ?

Hand 4
Raise 23 off on the button. Get a shorty to push and 1 caller. Flop 2 pair..gotta go with it.

Hand 5
4 betting light rules !!
I have ZERO history with this guy but I just felt he was bluffing me because of me having the button. Probably stupid, but that's me

Hand 6
Finally... another DUMB FUCKING MOVE by me
I 3bet garbage out of the BB thinking SB was stealing... I continu to bet flop and turn whith AA on board. ASKFDSDKFJSD I suck

Bankroll management - hands from good session
  getsky, Jun 05 2007

So a few thoughts on bankroll management. I haven't read any of the posts here regarding such, but I have read a few on 2plus2 and the general consensus there is the 20 buy in rule. However, this is not to say that you can't start taking shots higher if you are confident in your game AND you are willing to drop back down if/when you lose a few buyins.

For myself at the current level I am playing (50NL) I think that 10 buyins is more than enough. I am usually pretty strict on dropping down when I should...when not tilting like a madman..or drinking (I gotta stop drinking and playing). I just can't motivate myself to play at like 5NL at all, and I fell that I can easily beat 100NL so I want to get back up there as fast as possible.

anyhoo...enough about that. I had a super good session last night that brought me up to $650

Not many interesting hands, the sweet thing is that I didn't suffer ANY bad beats..if only this would never happen

Hand 1

This guy was a total buffoon. He bet me off top pair a few hands earlier by open pushing the flop. Then I saw him bet flop/turn and push river on a few hands. So I flop top pair good kicker, and let him bet into me. Terrible river card putting an over card and competing the flush draw, but I figured I had to call this monkey.

Hand 2

I raise it up on the button with A3 off and flop a gutshot. I decide to 2 barrel it, I was going to put it all in on the river regardless but the river card helped.

This is one of my big leaks, I have a tendency to bluff way too much. BUT when you check to me 3 times, then most of the time I'm gonna 3 barrel you.

Hand 3
I turn a flush on a paired board in a limped pot against a retard guy who is like 77%vpip. I have literally could have any 2 cards, but meh..I put him all in on the river and he calles with his trips.

First Post
  getsky, Jun 04 2007

Sweet, so I decided to start a random poker blog to start keeping track of my sessions, and discuss my play in various situations. This is mostly for myself, but if people wanna read and comment thats even better.

So a little history...
I started playing poker online about 2 years ago, and have been banging it out at the lower limits mostly on Party Poker. I worked up my 50 starting bankroll to about 2K before losing half in a hurry and then cashing out. I stopped playing for about 6 months, then Party decided to give me a free $75 . I started playing again at 25NL on party, and worked up to 200NL in a month, while building my bankroll up to about 4400. I was playing above my roll, but I was willing to drop down if I took a hit. Of course I did, I suffered a weekend of retarded bad beats and lost more than half my roll. After dropping down levels and losing more because of bad beats and monkey tilt, my bankroll was down to 100 again. Back to 25NL weeeeeeee.

So I am back at the grind again, and my roll is up to almost 650 now and I'm playing 50NL. I'm gonna grind out another couple hundred there, and move back to 100NL and try to build a decent roll there. I find the games at 100NL are very very good at Party, as long as I can stay off the tilt wagon when I get a bad beat, which seems to happen too often lately.

Will post some hands later
