After 1.5 years of playing pokers im now down to nl5 and losing. i lost all of the profits i made and deposited 200 which im in the process of blowing at nl5

if i can't beat it after like 30k hands ima just quit or grind only for the rakebacks fml lol

not all bad, im just a casual fish and i've taken up bodybuilding like eating 8 times a day and lifting at home while saving up for a gym membership (1k a year wtf) so hopefully less suckouts there ffs

poker sucks when you haven't got the time to put in tons of hands to reach the longer run but w/e ima just give it one last go till the end of this year and then quit if i haven't gotten to like nl25 or w/e

OK New Plan
  R_I, Apr 08 2009

Ok well I sat down and thought about the comments in my last blog post and came up with a new br management plan. I think using it will be fine since I'm not completely horrible at the micros and the sweet sweet ftp rakeback helps if im breaking even.

Basically: When you have enough for 20 buyins, play that level then drop down when you are down to 30 buyins of prev level. Then grind back to 20 buyins for next level etc.

I have about 200 atm so I'll be playing NL10 to try and reach 500 for NL25. If i drop down to 150, I'll drop to NL5 to try and grind back to 200 for NL10. If I reach 500 then I will play NL25 till I drop down to 300 then grind NL10 again with 30 buyins.

Hope that makes sense and maybe u'd want to try this BR management too if ur grinding up the micros. I think it's pretty safe(u start with 30 buyins when you move down) if you don't suck ass and don't mind moving up and down quite a bit (potentially).

So my plan is to grind up to 1k with this br management system and then reevaluate.

The Plan
  R_I, Mar 27 2009

I hit a massive downswing last year ($600 -> $100) when I took up HU sngs and sucked at them.

I've now come back to cash and my goal for this year is to become a winner at NL25.

I currently have $205 in my BR.

Steps to achieve my goal:
Grind NL5 to $300
Grind NL10 to $750
Grind NL25 for money (winrate of 2ptbb/100)

I'm going with a 30 buyin br management so I have less stress from coolers and I'm not playing scared money.

That's pretty much it, time to grind grind grind.

Failure (?)
  R_I, Dec 28 2008

I started online poker this year, with $15 from my coach Silver. I played 6 max and HU sngs on stars and ran my 15 up to $600 (including 100 from a propbet win). I work fulltime with pretty good pay so poker has been like a hobby.

I moved to full tilt in september because of rakeback and promptly ran into a big downswing which continues. I'm down to $200 from $600 and I'm taking a break till the new year starts.

I'll take my $200 and hopefully make something of it at the Full Tilt HU sngs next year. My goal is to become a winner at the 20s and grind out some extra money each month. The US dollar is strong vs the New Zealand dollar atm so that's extra motivation.

Please keep checking out the funky HU hands that I post and do reply if you disagree with my thought process comments or have something to add.

GL at the tables in the new year.

Temporary Setback
  R_I, Jul 05 2008

I moved up to NL10 when I had 250, and at the start of this month I anticipated success.

Well...

So now it's back to NL5 for the moment.

I'm still commited as hell to reach my goal of reaching 625 for NL25 (BR management ftw). It felt so sweet to hit 250 for NL10 so I guess I'll nut in my pants when I hit 625 :D

No need for pity posts or anything. I guess this blog post is more to myself, telling me that it's only a temporary setback and I'll make it for sure. Or go busto trying, lol. Nothing to do but keep working hard. In fact I should work harder and watch all the DC vids I dled and put in more hours.

Next blog post only when I reach 625 and invite you to celebrate with me.

Here's to staying hungry...

Traffic Crossings
  R_I, Jun 25 2008

Ok so, when I stand at traffic crossings I make sure to stand quite a bit away from the curb. Like what if some fool pushes me into traffic?
You have to be smart to survive in this world. Another obvious one is not using public toilets if you don't have to and not touching anything when you actually have to (use feet to flush etc.). A few times I really needed to take a shit in a public toilet so I just assumed a sitting position without touching the seat at all. Ever tried it? A little hard to get things going, but you do get a good thigh workout...

Go ahead and share your tips for survival in this dog-eat-dog world.

Poker-wise, halfway through this month I made a recommitment to playing poker. With an iron will I've got up at 5:30am everyday (most traffic on Stars) to play for 2 hours in my freezing cold room (winter can go to hell) before getting ready to go to work. At night, I read articles and watch some poker vids. I've just made the move to NL10 this week and so far it's going ok. Quite a few coolers like flopped sets (A's and K's) vs flopped and completed straights but what can you do eh.

My goal for July is to play NL10 for 2 hours every weekday and a few more on the weekends, putting in 500 hands per hour so I should end up with about 34k or so hands. Not too bad, considering I work a fulltime job. Will post a graph at end of July when it's actually a decent amount of hands. I dunno why I'm wanting to put this effort into it, I like to think that I have dedication but maybe I'm just a degen that needs to get his fix every day -_-. Anyways, gogogogo to 625 dollars.

Since you've been nice enough to read this, here's a bonus:
You might not know this, but there's a 7 day trial for DeucesCracked which you can cancel at any time before being charged. Only catch is that you must enter your credit card details so you're charged if you go past 7 days. But still, during this time you can pretty much dl as many vids as you want (no DRM or any shit like that). Cool, eh? I went ahead and let them charge me for a month so I can leisurely dl, plus I'm not a cheap bastard.

Do fat people punch good?
  R_I, Mar 04 2008

They got huge arms right? A while ago at my friend's girlfriend's 25th birthday party I made her cry by somehow insinuating that she was fat and dumb. She only cried and didn't punch me so I didn't have my question answered.

Oh well.

Anyway, after replies to my previous blog post I'm taking shots at NL5 with a BR of $170. My first session was negative 16bb (-$3) which is not too bad considering I thought I would lose both my $6 buyins. It feels really fresh, like I'm starting poker again. Raising to 20c at least is like a huge amount to me lol. Hopefully I can get some positive results and not drop down to $150 which is back to NL2 time. Stay tuned for results both from poker and if I decide to go piss off some fat people to answer my burning questions.

$10 UNLOCKED
  R_I, Feb 19 2008

So after paying Poker Stars like $45 in rake they finally deemed me worthy to get the $10 deposit bonus for reaching 100FPP.

To help me celebrate, PS rigged the tables for me so I started my 500 hand session with $119 and ended up with $147 including the bonus. I probably would've ended up with more but I was fucking everyone's shit up so I made a few spews knowingly. I was just like, oh it doesn't matter because I'm winning quite a bit anyway. Gotta watch out for that in the future -___-

Anywho, I think it's pretty good progress after 5 weeks. The 147 is pure profit because I paid back my staker (silverrrr) already. Can't wait to reach 200 so I can take shots at 2c5c.

The Dark Side?
  R_I, Jan 28 2008

Week 3 began, and as per Silver's advice (I'm such a good student), I tried playing 3 tables of 6 max observantly instead of 9 tabling and playing like a machine.

While watching a table and trying to figure out who the retards were, I noticed on one of the tables that a couple of guys were having a bit of an exchange. One of them (we'll call him Cool Dude) was hassling the other (we'll call him Tilt Monkey I guess).

It got to point where Tilt Monkey was getting fed up with Cool Dude and saying stuff like "You know it's not good to talk shit to people you don't know?" and "I know people". When queried on who exactly he happens to know, Tilt Monkey responded, "50" and then "M" and finally "dre". Cool Dude remarked that, "50 got shot 9 times" to which Tilt monkey replied, "No, not that 50, stupid". ????? wtf rofl

Watching this, a plan began to grow in my head.

A few hands later, I played AXs (my favourite starting hands) and hit the nut flush. It was heads up with Tilt Monkey and on the river I overbet the pot and he folded. After that I casually remarked, "Oh my overbet bluff worked".

Yet another few hands later, I ended up with trip Kings on an otherwise dry board, once again heads up with Tilt Monkey. I figured it was time to spring my trap. It went something like this:

R_I: Will it work again?
*R_I bets $1.20 into $0.80 pot*
*Tilt Monkey Calls*
*R_I takes it down with trip Kings*

R_I: Bang
Tilt Monkey: f u
Cool Dude: Bang
Cool Dude: Bang
Cool Dude: haha

After this play I felt a little weird. Maybe it was guilt, and that brings us to the heart of this post.

Is it unethical to use the chat to exploit someone's lack of emotional control or did I tap into a legit strategy? Or am I just an asshole on my way to the Dark Side?

In summary: Jedi mind tricks FTW?

End of Week 2
  R_I, Jan 27 2008

It's the end of week 2 and I'm moving up from NL5!!!!

Well, not really, I just wanted to give teacher Silver(MEGA BR Nit) a bit of a heart attack

These 2 weeks I was playing NL 2c with $2 buyin and reached $30 so Silver told me a few hours ago to try playing with full buyin of $5. I was quite nervous as 5 goes into 30 only six times. What that means I wasn't sure but I just had a bad feeling.

I opened up 4 tables and entered full buyin, praying to the Poker Gods to go easy on me. They decided to be assholes to me though for a while as I got used to playing like a man, making me lose like $2 quickly. I was thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all so I asked the Poker Gods for a sign that things were going to be ok. Otherwise if I lost some more money I'd just berate Silver and move back down to $2 buyin.

Cue philanthropists.

A few minutes after asking for a sign I got this hand:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/370871

That boosted my confidence and I booked the hell out of that table, staring at the cashier screen for a few minutes after sacrificing a stray cat to the deities.

The offering appeared to have pleased the Gods as they gifted me with another victim:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/370877

After winning this, the next few hands I observed the victim raising allin when I did a cbet (and not in position too but hey it's only week 2 so I'm still allowed to suck). I figured it was just a matter of time and then bam:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/370882

After all that money I decided to try a couple of things and pulled off my first bluff weee:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/370897

I think Silver might disapprove of that one but...meh

So after all that at the end of Week 2 I';ve played 16,272 hands and I';m sitting at $49.72 from $15. Still a long way to go with many swings expected.

Now if you'll excuse me I think I saw my neighbour's dog from my window.
