suchhhhhh a grind. got all the way down to 14K (40K stacks) and just bulldozed this dude after my low point. funny thing was the guy used the exact same style of HU match play i once emplored. while it was very succesful for me, i never developed a counter to it in case i ever came against it. this one took me about 100 hands to figure an appropriate counter. onto round 4.

KidPoker
  jayluf, Sep 11 2007

I really wonder if DNegreanu ever second guessed the nickname 'Kid Poker'. It's pretty raunchy if you think about it for a second...

So my first WCOOP event is the $500 NL on Sunday. In all, I'm backed for 32.5% for the WCOOP events. So I hope to make my backers happy and make at least one deep cash.

Been playing about 400 - 500 hands a night of NL50 lately... here are some hands from the past few sessions...

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/269410
I'm not sure if its better to raise on the flop and call a shove or flating and shoving the turn as played. My point for shoving the turn here is I will take the same line with a set against an opponent like this who only 3bets pf with AA/KK.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/269455
the comments after this hand were more comical than being 4 outted. the guy genuinely thought he was ahead. nice.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/269458
prob should have bet closer to $4 on the flop but same result regardless vs this clown.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268781
he had been all in 3 times pf since i was at the table with him with hands of 10J/99/AQ.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/268579
guess he didn't believe my 3bet on the flop either.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266456
villain time banked this one to the max on the river. silly.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/266426
i love the overcall there.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/265848
you can still fold this bro.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264233
hung myself on this one.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/263888
i really hope these players are at NL100 too.

Huge terps game vs west virginia thursday night. I smell BCS with a win....

Full Ring no more!!
  jayluf, Aug 24 2007

Quick update:

I officially decided I will never play another full ring game again. I can't stand the play at 50/100NL!!! It's onto 6max and the world of 3/4/5/6betting light from now on!!!!

Also made another final table last night... busto 4th when my resteal with 45s was sucked out on by JJ. Hate it when that happens.

Weekend's almost here. Moving out of Summit Hills, and officially in with my girlfriend. Looking to place an offer on a condo Sunday... than Kenny Chesney Sunday night, which I vow not to be blacked out for like last year.

Moving On Up...
  jayluf, Aug 22 2007

G'Day-

So I remember there being a kid named 'G-Day' in middle school or high school or whatever. I always thought it was pretty odd for that to be the kid's nickname, seeing as his real name was Nick Manter, and he wasn't from Austrailia. Anyway I remember coming home for a thanksgiving during college and going through my local paper's 'Arrests + Incidents' section, probably the most popular of the West Hartford News. Reading along I came accross a blurb about an arrest for breaking and entering by a 20 year old male. Literally this was the context;

" Nick 'G-Day' Manter, 20, West Hartford, was arrested early Friday morning for breaking and entering the Hebrew Home Residence at 134 North Main Street at approximately 5 a.m. "

I remember thinking damn, the kid really made a name for himself, I never saw a kid's nickname in the 'Arrests & Incidents' section before. And the Hebrew Home? I guess I'll never know.

Anyway, I've been running well lately. My HU play is the best it's ever been. Gradually have been shifting away from HU SNG's to ring games. Made it to the round of 8 in the $20 256 HU tourney the other night. I'll edit this later and put the crippling hand to hear some feedback. Basically the hand was played so weird. I limped from the button with K2os. Villain checked. Flop comes K 3 5. I bet and am check raised. I noticed he was doing a lot of c/r with draws and not necessarily top pair/2 pair/set hands, though this range was certainly possible. based on that info, I called to see what developed on the turn. Off rolls a 4. He fires 2/3 pot. I ended up tanking on this one for quite some time and obviously put him on K3/K5/35/33/55 or 46, maybe air. I really think he is showing up with 46 over 50% of the time here though. I discounted every other King because he would have called my flop bet and raised/bet out on the turn based on previous play. With that, I called. A 3 rolled off on the river and the villain insta-shoved(his effective on turn was about size of pot). I think he had some magic button that had him all in before the card was dealt. And that's what confused that absolute monkey nuts out of me. I absolutely put him on 46 for a missed draw based on the insta-shove (he didn't have great sharkscope stats BTW) and called. He flips up K8 and its good. I really think he kinda turned it into a bluff on the river. Oh well. GG jayluf.

So we're moving up to 100NL. Current plan is to play the 215 HORSE, 320 HU, 500 NL, and 1K NL for the WCOOP. I'm going to have to look at my work schedule because I think I would like to get the Stud and possibly ME in as well.

Later kids.

Playoffs?
  jayluf, Aug 13 2007

So I'm out with a group of friends for dinner/drinks in DC over the weekend. Preseason football is in full gear apparently... Now I am a huge pro and college fan. I won't miss any terps or patriot games. But I can honestly careless about preseason games.

So here we are out in in cleveland park, enjoying a nice rooftop meal, and the redskins preseason game is on just about every tv. OK. I mean, typically I couldn't careless about this. There's no Red Sox-Yankee game, no X-Games event with a dude falling 200 feet down a vert ramp, and the new episode of 'Scott Baio is 45 and Single' doesn't come on for a few more days. So normally, I'm okay with the game being on TV here. But for some reason, Washington Redskins fans are unable to be unemotional for an unimportant game. People were screaming and yelping at the TV everytime a big play happened. This is just nuts people. I'm sure these same people would go crazy over watching the redskins players playing an intense game of Wii Bowling, or maybe even discovering what their fortune said inside a chinese fortune cookie.

I mean I love living here in DC, don't get me wrong. But if you're going to get this psyched up for your teams first preseason football game following what, several seasons without a playoff appearance, then honestly you might as well start planning the tailgate for the July 4, 2008 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest right now.

Ramblings from the DC
  jayluf, Aug 12 2007

Brief clarification. Upon immediate feedback, I was informed that my inaugural blog did not shed me in the best of light. I'm really not a bad looking dude people. I used to be very athletic. Went to college, drank too much beer, ate one too many chicken fingers, ran a little less, and now I am a 'normal' size 36. Whatever.

And no, Kristen is not presurring me to buy a house or a ring. Yet.

So.. onto some poker! Finally. I really don't play many MTT's anymore. I just don't have the time. I mainly play HU SNG's and Ring games. I was pretty sucessful in MTT's last year. That's all I really played (aka no girlfriend in 2006). I played mainly $10 - $20 MTT's. I finished 1st or 2nd in every MTT FT, except for one. So, I pride myself on my FT play. Too often in these donkaments, aggro play is the standard. In my first few FT's, I also was pretty aggro and my results reflected this variance. Since I believe my short handed game is pretty strong, I tightened up quite a bit and opened up as they got 7,6,5 and 4 handed.

So I took down the 20K VIP Pokerstars freeroll a few weeks ago for 2.2K. Sorry, I dont' have the HH for it, but i think that was my best FT played. Every now and then I've had time to play the nightly $10 NLHE 10 Minute Blind Levels on Stars. I love these, and stars recently changed the structure to them. Which means I now love them about as much as Margot's dimples from Punky Brewster.

I make the FT after only being all in twice for the entire tournament.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/249470 Here, I pop from late position with 77. The BB defends. I personally don't like this. His flat here narrows his range to small pairs 22 - 55/66, KQ/KJ, and Ax. Flop brings out 3 overs and he donk front bets. Okay, he wants to see where his Ax stands here. Fair enough, I shove, expecting an insta-fold. Just kidding, villain insta-calls with A3... what? So i hit my 2 outter and double up.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/249472 Then this hand happens. Folded to SB who raises into my big. I have a huge range that will shove here. He insta calls with 33. There is soooo much that has 33 in either horrible shape or at best a flip. This is actually similar to the Patrik Antonius-Doyle Brunson hand played at the NADBC. Me having A2 is the BEST possible hope for 33 to make a call. So i spike the ace, and the dude berates me there after asking what i was doing shoving A2 there. Blah, Blah. Yawn. So he's still talking when this hand comes up.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/249480 EP raiser was folding to a lot of shoves. Villain probably recognizes this and shoves. IMO he doesnt need a big hand here. I pick up AK, and thought for 2 seconds before shoving. Villain has A4. Bricks out and GG.

Nothing really eventful thereafter. Make FT. Got lucky when i tried a resteal. Eventually bust 4th. I was a shorti and pushed a marginal holding as my FE was dwindling.

Have won a few sat's over the weekend.. including a sunday million seat today.. but can't play today due to my lack of quality fitting dress pants, so kris10 is dragging me to the mall. Still hungover from last night... went to Adam's Morgan, started drinknig around 6, made it to about 1. Big improvement over prior weeks attempts to drink for 5+ hours.

Have had requests for my pstars avatar. Will post shortly.

Inauguration
  jayluf, Aug 10 2007

Hi Friends, Relatives, Colleagues, Poker Players, Poker Blog Addicts, Blog Addicts, Random Google Search Go'ers Entering 'Greatest Person Born in 1982', Ex-Girlfriends, Current Girlfriends (just kidding honey), and Nala.Dog-

Welcome. I'm kicking off this a little early...

The original intent of creating a blog, was to provide real-time updates to my investors for the upcoming World Championship of Online Poker on pokerstars. I have chosen to invest 50% in myself, and be backed 50%. This allows me to A) Make my girlfriend think I'm saving for a ring and house, and B) Make me think that I actually have friends. Just kidding, I do have friends. At least that's what my stuffed animal 'Lobster' tells me.

I digress.

So anyway, yeah, since this is my first blog, I guess I should do the intro thing for those who are not familiar with myself. First, please excuse my spelling and grammar people, for some reason they put me in the 'slow' reading group in 2nd grade. I never recovered emotionally.

I was born in West Hartford, CT. Went to the University of Maryland for college. Started playing poker in 2002 by playing dealer's choice in the basement of our fraternity house after watching the legend Robert Varkonyi take down the WSOP ME that year. Took up online in '03. Eventually graduated from UMD in '04, and have been working in the accounting/financial consulting field for three years now. Pretty standard line.

So yeah; big learning curve to start, yada yada, I'm a winning player now. Neat. I play mainly on Stars, handle is 'jayluf'. You'll notice my nice picture on Stars if you ever rail me. That picture has caused me more emotional distress than when I got rejected from Jessica Trayer, that elementary school chick that was everyone's first kiss. Nice. I had to resort to my next door neighbor who may or may not have had 12 toes. Still unconfirmed. Anyway, this picture. I have been called everything from 'baldy', to 'terrorist' to a 'homosexual cheerleader'. You get the idea. At first I pleaded with Stars to allow me to change the picture. But now, I think its as much a part of me as my 1.5 inch deep belly button (seriously).

So, I think that's about it for now. This blog will have something for everyone. A lot of poker for sure. A lot of reasons for my friends, I mean lobster, to come 'jayluf' bash, and also probably a reason for my parents to discontinue all contact with me.

Thanks for reading,

jayluf
