April Challenge
  LilDeano89, Apr 01 2009

Hi everyone,
So I am a uni student but 90% of my classes are recorded and available online so I only end up actually at the campus for around 3 hours/fortnight. 4 weeks into the semester I realise I have a ton of time on my hands and am spending most of it just being lazy watching movies, playing computer games, etc and playing like 10 hours of poker a week.

For April I have decided to stop being so lazy and start putting in some serious volume. I plan to play 100 hours for the month only playing 5 days a week (to give myself a break as well as time to do uni stuff) which works out to around 150k hands 24-tabling full ring. I will continue playing NL100 until I hit $5k roll (at 3k now) then move to NL200. Hoping to make $10k for the month. I'm also going to be spending all my FPPs on Sunday $215 Tickets, playing as many of these as I can.

I will be updating this blog at least five times a week with daily results.
Gl in April LP,
Dean

Looking for a Coach
  LilDeano89, Nov 19 2008

A bit of background on me:

I have been playing poker for around 6 months, SNGs/Tourneys and some cash. I have played a fair amount of NL100 HU in the past few months with good success, but am looking to get into the shorthanded games. Because of the success with HU, my bankroll on PokerStars is ~$4000.

So University has finished for the year and I have 3 months holidays. I really want to play alot and improve my game over this long break and try to move up through the limits, hopefully to midstakes. I figure the best way to do this is through obtaining coaching, preferably from a midstakes player who has moved up from SSNL to MSNL in the past few months or so. I'm probably looking to start at NL100 6-max, and hopefully move to NL200 and beyond by the end of the holidays.

If anyone is interested please PM me on here for my msn. Thanks guys.

August
  LilDeano89, Aug 31 2008

Hi all,
So after a decent start to August, the last half of the month has been extremely frustrating. After doing quite well at NL100 in the first half of August, I decided to take a shot at NL200, which didnt go so well. Didnt matter though, I brushed it off and jumped back into the NL100 games, hoping to grind my roll back up to take another shot towards the end of August. Well unfortunately that didnt happen, thanks to a 24k hand breakeven run
NL100 6-max graph:

Lots of coolers/bad beats, but I think I played pretty well for the most part. It's given me a chance to work on my game, and I think I'm playing better now than I was at the start of the month. Disappointing not being able to see any results $ wise, but nothing much you can do.

August - Total Results:

August - Total Graph:

Overall not a terrible month, but could definitely be better. Hopefully I can regain some form and get my roll to a point where I'm comfortable taking another shot at NL200.

Thanks for reading,
Dean

Update + First HU Session
  LilDeano89, Aug 09 2008

So I havent blogged in awhile but lately I've been doing quite well so I felt like it would be a good time for an update.
Firstly, last month and a half update.
July:
Week One: Deposit $1,250 on Stars after withdrawing same amount from FTP. Win $1,250 at the NL50 Full Ring tables in 16k hands, to bring BR to a total of $2.5k.
Week Two: Start playing NL100 Full Ring. Win $1,300 in 7k hands before losing $1,700 due to running horribly + tilt.
Week Three: Start playing NL50 6max with a $2.2k roll. Win $300 in 10k hands or so.
Week Four: Start playing NL100 6max with a $2.5k roll. Breakeven for around 10k hands.

August:
Week One: Start 4-tabling NL100 6max and posting interesting hands in the Medium Stakes Forum here on LP, as well as watching some Isura leggo vids.
Results:
+ Show Spoiler +

+ Show Spoiler +

Today: Start 1-2 tabling NL100 HU, with Python817 sweating me at the beginning. End up playing 1.5k hands.

+ Show Spoiler +

Some fun hands:

Summary:
Am very excited to have a roll of $4050. Previously my highest was $3,500 once or twice, so to have a +$650 day today was very nice. Am probably going to try and get to 5k playing NL100 HU, and if that happens I'll decide whether I want to keep playing there or take a shot at NL200 6max.

Bye for now,
Dean

Need Stars Money - Trusted LPers please help!
  LilDeano89, May 21 2008

Hi all,
Finally cleared my FTP $400 bonus and want to return to Stars ASAP.
However, FTP has these retarded withdrawal options, where to get a check you have to send in all this verification shit, which I think could take a while, plus the time it takes for the check to arrive in Australia
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone trusted here on LP could help me out by transferring me $1k+ of Stars money in exchange for my FTP cash?
Anyone who is willing to help please PM me,
Thanks,
Dean

I Run Bad...
  LilDeano89, Apr 15 2008

Well, before starting this new challenge I was pretty confident I could maintain a 2.5ptbb/100 winrate over 40k hands at NL25 Full Ring on FTP, without any major variance or swings. Well, I think I was wrong. Either that, or I just suck at this game.
Check this out:

In there are three hands that were absolutely horrible. In all of these I'm pretty sure im over 90% favourite to win:

Also, I cant find the HH, but my AA lost to AK all-in preflop for 260BB's as well.

For like the first 2500 hands I was still feeling my around around the level of play at the tables, so lost like 1.5-2 buy-ins through that, but I feel like I know how the tables at this limit play now. To meet my goal of 2.5ptbb/100, after 7.5k hands I should have been up around $90. Well, if I would have won the above pots (total of like $180), I'm probably up overall. So atm I'm not overly concerned that I'm out of my league at NL25. However, my bankroll atm on FTP is sitting at like $300 ($60 of deposit bonus has been released). I'm thinking this is probably a little low to be 8-tabling NL25 FR, as my initial deposit of $400 was pushing it as far as being properly rolled goes. So, new plan is to 4-table NL25 FR for a little while, at least until I'm unstuck from the past 3 days. (bankroll around $475). See how that goes ne way.

Any comments/suggestions are welcome, as always!
Stay on the lookout for updates...
May luck be on my side!

New Challenge
  LilDeano89, Apr 12 2008

Hi all,
It's been awhile since my last blog post, over 2 months actually.
The reason behind this is that in the beginning of February I was forced to cash out my entire bankroll of over $1000 to pay off some outstanding debts
Thats all cleared now tho and Ive finally gotten a hold of some cash to once again start grinding.
So before the cashout I was playing mostly NL50 FR, with some 6-max thrown in. Yesterday I deposited $400 on FTP, with the intention of getting the 100% deposit bonus, as well as a free 6-month subscription to LeggoPoker (thru PocketFives). So with this bankroll, Ive decided to start off at NL25 FR.

So I've set myself a goal of reaching my old limit of NL50, and clearing the deposit bonus, by the end of April. Over a small sample of hands last night, I ascertained that I can clear around $10 of the deposit bonus for every 1000 hands. So Im thinking I should be able to clear the bonus in around 40,000 hands. With around 18 days in April left, this works out to around 2250 hands per day (around 3 hours 9-tabling). To move up to NL50 at the beginning of May, I want to have a bankroll of $1200. So to reach this bankroll, I will have to run at 2.5PTBB/100 (5BB/100) over the 40,000 hands. ($400 deposit + $400 bonus + $400 winnings). I think this is achievable, since it is full ring (low variance), and 40k hands is a reasonable sample size to avoid swings.

I'll try to update frequently throughout the challenge, maybe weekly, to get advice on hands and keep any readers up-to-date.
Wish me luck!
