ME (long)
Perisie, Jul 10 2010
age 15: i fell in love and altho the girl liked me a year ago sshe decided to hate me from now and then on. i died inside, from an A+++ student to a complete nihilnist. my gcses were 11 a-b, my alevels were bcd.
age 17: 6th form in my private school. people called me a zombie. i racked up 200 days on an online text based game. my report cards said "jonathan is dishevelled and degenerate". i left my IT project till the last night and got a C. i got a D in one IT exam then retook it with zero revision and got an A. it was all about how you interpreted the question. bullshit.
age 18: i went to uni. first day of uni i met a guy called dave. an hour later i done weed for the first time. i didnt stop. a few days later i discovered family guy and south park. the first year of uni was the most mindless fun ive had in my life. i hooked up with a random 15 year old and a random 14 year old. alcohol was awesome and so was i,
age 19: i spent several thousand on weed.
age 20: i approached my university tutor and claimed i was addicted to online poker. in the meantime i was making 200/day on hollywood poker, abusing their bonus system because they had no proper system in place yet. i played 5max and heads up and smoked weed and made 200 dollars a day.
age 21: i went to argentina with erik. i met erik on liquidpoker, he was another nub poker player and we decided to move to argentina together. we booked the most expensive apartment possible , it had a chandelier.
age 21.5: my laptop got sent over to argentina but i never bothered to pick it up. instead i was drunk 24/7. i went out every night, got attacked many times, got scammed many times. spanish people are fucking assholes. one time i tried to score weed and got hit in the face. one time i tried to score weed and eneded up running from the policea. one time i just got hit in the face for no reason. one time i was just walking along and if the police didnt show up i would have been dead in the gutter.
age 22: erik and brendan fucked off back to europe. i spent 2 months in a hostel , drunk as fuck every day. i turned into kenneth williams. i was kenneth williams.
age 22: i was kenneth williams. everyone loved me. no joke.
age 23: i returned to england, got kicked out of my moms and lived with my grandmother. my grandmother is awesome but also sucks. imagine living with your grandmother. its hell.
age 23: i got a job in a nursing home. my coworkers were middle aged women. my job was to clean shit and vomit off of people, and to emotionally support 80 year olds who whine like you cant believe. working in a nursing home is literally the worst job in the world.
age 24: still working in a nursing home. short of staff every other day, which means 30% extra work in an already terribly demanding job for minimum wage (5.90/hr).
age 25: i re-applied to university. i spammed a few unis within the last days of application, and got into stoke uni to do biomedical science.
25.2: going to the gym every 2-3 days, whilst keeping an awesome record of my workout training regieme and eating/cooking 4 times a day
25.6: depressed becauses i miss the girl im in love with (for the last 2 years, left out of previous reports). stopped going to the gym. stopped going to uni. stopped playing online games. stopped caring about my existance. stopped taking my anti-psychotic drugs. stopped taking my anti-depressant drugs.
25.8: missed most of my uni exams. gave in a coursework 1 day late but they didnt accept my late submission request. moved to blackpool to live with an internet friend. got a job in telesales. quit my job in telesales. got a job as a receptionist in a posh hotel.
25.9: university has banned me from going back unless i contact them about payments. got offered 5k by student loans to go back next year. will phone on monday to negotiate going back to uni since i have 5k offer.
option 1: continue in blackpool with various part time jobs and 10nl and starting a new life living with internet friend. maybe get kicked out and have to go back live with my mom.
option 2: try to get back to uni doing biomedical science (max salary is 21k but its an honerable subject). will request to retake the first year but since i have 5k loan affirmed (even after failing 3 yrs of uni ages ago). problem is i fail at living my myself, i just drown in depression.
thats me, pleased to meet you.

"asian math secrets"
Perisie, Jul 08 2010
i love this post sooo freakin much im going to copy it to my blog so i dont lose it. i always wondered how language has an affect on the way people think, and bring it up from time to time but no one seems to fuckin care.
by Ooni on TLnet
I was doing a paper on East Asians languages and number systems. I thought some of the ‘non-Asians’ would find my paper interesting since we all know 'Asians' are good at maths. Right? I’ll rewrite my paper in the most simplest form, in math~.
East Asian languages have a logical numeric pattern. Using this pattern East Asian children subconsciously learn how to do basic arithmetic when they are learning how to count.
Let's look at the English number system
Twelve = 12
An English child has to associate the word 'twelve' with a value '12'. Not only that the child has to associate words with value from one to twenty.
Let's look at the East Asian number system
十 = 10
二 = 2
十二 = 12
An East Asian child associates 十 with 10 and 二 with 2.
An East Asian child says the word 十 (10) first followed by the word 二 (2) thus making the word 十二 (12)
Through just saying the word 十二, the child learns basic addition. 十 + 二 = 十二 i.e. 10 + 2 = 12
When an English child has learned how to count to 20, An East Asian child has learned concept of adding two numbers together.
Of course when an English child learns twenty-one
The English child will start to understand the concept of addition.
Twenty = 20
One = 1
Twenty-One = Twenty + One i.e. 20 + 1
However, by this time an East Asian child has already learned basic multiplication
二 = 2
十 = 10
一 = 1
An East Asian child says the word 二 (2) followed by the word 十 (10) then followed by the word 一 (1) thus making the word 二十一 (21).
In order say 21, the child must understand the basic concept of Arabic numerals.
* 2 followed by 10 is now 20 But why?
* 20 followed by 1 = 21 Because of the previous rule of adding two numbers
The child subconsciously figures out 2 followed by 10 means the numbers are base 10.
i.e. 2 x 10 = 20
20 + 1 = 21
So 二十一 (21):
二 (2) follow by 十 (10)
二 (2) x 十 (10) = 二十
And using the previous rule 二十 (20) + 一 (1) = 二十一 (21)
When does an English child learn this new concept? When they reach one hundred.
One hundred = 1 x 100
Two hundred = 2 x 100
Two hundred One = 2 x 100 + 1
Once the English number system reaches one hundred, it uses the same "wording" as the East Asian number system.
Now look at the stage of the development
Infancy – Basic Counting
Preschool – upto 20
Early Schooling – counts up to 100
An English child has little to no concept of Arabic until public school, while an Asian Child has already understood that the Arabic number system uses base 10 number system.
What is more interesting is concept of substraction.
Going back to previous example of twelve. An English child does not understand the concept of base 10 system. This means an English child only looks at twelve as 12 not 10 + 2. If you ask the child to take away 2 from 12, the child is likely to count his fingers, and realise that he only has 10 fingers. If the child was somehow gifted and visualised 12 objects and removed two from it, it still does not change the fact the child has no concept of the 10 base number system. The English child has to be told that ‘twelve’ minus ‘two’ is ‘ten’ (The words ten and two are hard to associate with twelve since it’s a different “word”. What is even more frustrating ~ tw- is in front of the word, not at the back).
If the same question was to be asked towards an East Asian child, either the child will figure out that the answer is 10 by dissecting the word 十二 (十二 - 二 = 十 or after the answer is given, s/he will figure out that they can dissect the word 十二 into 十 and 二.
So in order for an English Child to have the same mathematical reasoning skill as an East Asian child, when the East Asian Child learns to count to 11 the English Child must learn how to count to 21 and when the East Asian child learns to count to 21 the English Child must learn to count to 101.
So what does this all mean? It’s quite simple; East Asians are not natural mathematicians. Or rather a fault in the English language creates a barrier for English speakers from learning mathematical reasoning at early age.
Do not be discouraged because there are other people who seem to be better than you at math. Just put that extra effort into it. You could beat them because they may not be as smart as you think they are~
Thanks for reading guys, Ooni.

add me to skype / poker
Perisie, Jul 05 2010
i want to get back into poker after a few years of not playing.
i have $200 bankroll and just played ~10? hours of 9man 3.20s and 5.40s, some double or nothings, some heads up and some 10nl 6max. i went up $90 then down $85 on stars.
i can't afford tracker/ace which SUCKS but im going to get the trial version.
im wondering what game type i should play with my little bankroll (10max, 6max, sngs? what stakes and for how long?).
what site should i play on? is it dumb to play on stars now since everyone is a reg? (??)
i need to relearn a lot of things, like basic hand ranges and preflop stuff like what hands to raise and reraise in various positions. (aq in first? aj to a raise? small/big blind play with aj or kq? how to respond to possible blind steals with pocket pairs?)
if you're in a similar boat or want to join my support group then add me to skype "perisie" (isle of wight?) or msn "kaiten_yari@hotmail.com" .

mustwatch tv series Leverage
Perisie, Jul 01 2010
someone somewhere recommended the tv series Leverage and i just watched the first season.
it is a comedy action series about 5 top class thieves who band together to do major heists (1 per episode).
it is similar to Firefly, Oceans Eleven and Stargate SG1 and revolves around the team working with their individual skills (impersonator, computer wizz, action hero, mastermind) to pull off scams and heists.
it is first and foremost "fun" (lighthearted comedy).
you can watch it on alluc/tvlinks/ninjavideo (tuduo/yukuo/megavid). Again this series is called LEVERAGE and you should go watch the first s1 episode NOW!!
check my previous blog entry for a list of "hidden gem" movies to watch
Movies
Perisie, Jun 29 2010
Spoiler-free guide to some stuff I watched recently. I went through 70 pages of "hidden gems" etc threads and some of those are here.
The Idiots
Absolutely fucking fantastic film about a group of people who decide live their lives completely without inhibition and in the realms of psychosis, in a disturbingly self-destructive fashion. One of the best movies of all time.
Exam
Cheesey simplistic dialogue brings together eight candidates for a "top secret" job in business. They are left in an empty room and have to determine which one of them is fit for the job. A little reminiscent of The Cube and tries to be a "mindfuck" movie so is worth watching.
In Bruges
Two hitmen with quirky personalities are sent to Belgium to await their next orders. Worth watching but don't expect anything mindblowing.
K-PAX
A man is admitted to a mental ward claiming to be a tourist from a more advanced planet. captivating and keeps you guessing till the end. An absolute must-watch and may become one of your all-time favourites.
Let the right one in
Spooky film about a boy who meets a mysterious 12 year old girl. Recommended about 10 times in the tlnet movie thread. Film is SWE so watch with subs (the dubbing is ghastly).
Kopps
Lighthearted SWE flick about a group of redneck cops who try to find a way to stop their shitty police station from getting shut down. Was more watchable than I thought it'd be but not LOL funny (except one part at the end!).
Everything is illuminated
Harry potter kid fucks off to rural Ukraine to track down a distant relative. Starts off upbeat but gets depressing pretty fast, focusing on people's uphappy war-time history. Might be your cup of tea (would help if you can speak Ukraine as a quarter of the movie is unsubbed).
Eastern Plays
Atmospheric slice of life movie about 2-3 young Bulgarian men living in Sofia. Nothing happens in this movie, and I enjoyed it nethertheless.
Memento
Guy with no short term memory capability tries to track down a killer by leaving himself notes. A classic.
She's out of my league
Man-chick-flick that isn't funny or interesting. Gets worse as time goes on and I turned it off with 2o minutes to go (maybe I missed some serious mindfuck ending? At one point you think there's going to be an awesome twist but it turns out to be massive phail).
500 Days of Summer
Man-chick-flick that is soooooooooo fucking awesome. Entertaining nomatter who you are.
Threads
Very old movie filmed in the style of a BBC documentary. Shows the lives of some common people in Sheffield before, during and after Britian is nuked to oblivion. One of my alltime favs.
Band of brothers
This is a 10-part series revolving around a platoon of men sent into war. Each episode is a self-contained mini-movie with some continuation (people being promoted or dying etc). Get a bag of weed and set aside 1-2 days to watch this asap.
The boys and girls guide to getting down
Fun comedy/pretend documentary following young persons' "night out".
Alice in wonderland (2010)
Aghh this was so bad I seriously didn't enjoy it.
Braindead
Comedy gore flick about a "nice guy" who finds his mother turned into a zombie and then tries to look after her while the world goes to pot around him. Literally the goriest movie you have EVER seen. No other movie comes this close to making you feel physically ill, and its all in good humour. Don't watch this alone, you will just end up feeling sick.
City of god
Epic movie about gang warfare in south american slums. Shows some really shitty culture (little kids with guns are evil).

the moderation on tlnet is absolutely abysmal
i wrote a 2 page review of the tlnet moderation but my laptop thinks everything i press the mouse bar is a back button
read through the banned thread on tlnet. some people are banned for jokes, some for memes, some for truncation, some just because the mod doesnt like them, some because the mod doesnt like their tone, some because the mod misunderstands them (SOOOO MANY), some because the mod thinkss they are worthless but dont realise they have written 2000 pages in other threads eg Foulcout.
u know my favourite bans? when someone posts a blog entry that is significant to them, but the mod doesnt like it or thinks its dumb because theyre too fucking elitist and stupid to figure out why something is interesting or has the potential to be interesting.
WANT A CLUE MODS?
WHEN A THREAD IS MADE, IF NO ONE POSTS IN IT THEN NO ONE IS INTERESTED AND IT FALLS OFF THE FRONT PAGE. THIS, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IS A GOOD WAY OF FINDING OUT IF A THREAD IS WORTHY OR NOT.
i am honest to GOD when i say that it feels to me like teamliquid is literally months away from enforcing censorship of swear words.
tlnet 5 years ago was a good forum. tlnet now is like reading Woman's Weekly.
it was 6 months ago that tlnet made the official rule that "NO THREADS ARE TO BE MADE ABOUT RELIGION EVER".
shit has gotten worse and worse and worse since then
