They be trying to steal my money.
Small update
edzwoo, Jan 08 2010
Haven't blogged in a while. I'm not grinding 6max or FR since I'm home for break and I'm not on my desktop + dual monitor setup.
I deposited $500 onto FTP because I prefer the site for HU, and I've been 6tabling some NL50 and NL100. FTP roll is at about $3,300 now which is cool.
Here's the graph, although it's missing a few sessions because I didn't have hand histories saved at first.
Will probably withdraw 1k sometime next week and buy a plasma or LCD TV and Wii

Poker brings opportunities
edzwoo, Dec 04 2009
Today a met a guy named Terrence.
Terrence works for a guy named Frank, who is starting up a charitable games business on my campus. I wrote a bit of a detailed blog post here:
http://www.edzwoo.com/2009/12/04/december-3rd-2009-the-day-i-met-terrance/
Basically, this guy is running CUcharitablegames.com which is scheduled to launch mid-end of January. For those of you that don't know, the legal age to play poker at a charity casino is 18+, NOT the usual 21... and a college campus is a pretty big ocean.
I was teaching at a poker club meeting and he popped in at the very end. After everyone left, he basically talked about how he liked the work I've done and wanted to work with me. This happened just yesterday, and a lot of random things ensued like going to a bar and watching the tournament instructor on the club staff hook up with some Asian girl... because of Terrence LOL. I just met this guy and he's literally stopping girls and hooking them up with people from the poker club staff. But basically, this can actually be a career opportunity for me, which is obviously really amusing.
Also, Taylor Caby just gave the green light on shipping some chip sets for the poker club's "underground" NL10 and NL50 live games, which I'm obviously really thankful for.
I was just thinking about my poker life, which is actually in fact my life right now. Here's a quick summary:
-Played Starcraft with friends, wanted to be better than everyone else and found TeamLiquid
-Played random $1 SNGs with friends regularly, which eventually led to making play money accounts on Stars
-Free $5 from Stars
-Through TeamLiquid, read articles on LiquidPoker
-Grind that up to become a midstakes reg
-Currently out of school and playing poker and selling stuff on eBay (not doing that as much anymore); always have 6+ months of living expenses in reserve
-Start poker club
-Get offered a job and meet awesome people because of the club
-Currently loving my life
I think we can safely say Starcraft is an amazing game.
Day 2 and 3 10k challenge!
edzwoo, Dec 03 2009
Boing! Back to even again!
Two things that have changed; the same regs are adjusting well and not letting me run them over in 3bet pots, and I'm running really bad.
Got a bunch of those standard fish calling turn shoves with gutshots and regs stacking off dominated, but meh don't really care since I played those hands fine. Ran something like 1200 under EV.
Buuuuut I'm timimg my squeezes and light 3bets badly and I've had problems pulling the trigger for the third barrel or the 5bet shove (did it twice, BrocheN called me super light with a mid Ace and I binked a K with K9 or K4, something like that, second time it worked). So even if I ran normal, I don't think the way I've been playing would give me very good results (which makes me really sad).
The other big thing is I haven't been table selecting at ALL, which definitely has to be killing my winrate. I'm going to be starting tables again instead of sitting at random tables with an empty seat.
Gonna have to turn this around tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Day 1 10k challenge results

http://www.edzwoo.com/2009/12/01/day-1-4-figure-start-into-the-challenge/
So about why I think I have an edge... I've been applying a lot of random theoretical concepts I thought about about a week before starting NL200, and I've also been scavenging the PTR database for hand histories on the winning regs.
From what I saw, I'm basically under the impression that the best players suck and are winners because of good table selection, lol . I could be wrong but that's what it seems like. The difference between the hardcore grinders that are 2ptbb and .5 ptbb are who they play against.
Some other things that struck me was watching durrrr vs isildur HU and some random PAD and HSP episodes. There were a lot of moments where I kinda realized many spots postflop are actually just bluffcatchers or are too weak to be raised. I also had to honestly look back at my old game and plug a LOT of leaks.
Anyway, I scored a solid 1322 vpp today. I only need 28,893 for SuperNova! Hopefully I make a ton on the way
$10k way on pace

I have to be running pretty good, but I definitely feel like I'm CRUSHING people pretty bad right now.
Will probably play more later.
Warm up session

Just getting in the groove for tomorrow.
It probably doesn't matter, nor is it likely anyone would actually check my blog for free info, but I don't really want to show my stats and showdown lines public just in case.
If you pm me though I'll probably show
NL200 FR IS IN FOR A BEATING THIS DECEMBER!
Going for $10k December
edzwoo, Nov 29 2009
For more of a young college kid read of my goal, check here:
http://www.edzwoo.com/2009/11/29/my-december-10000-poker-challenge/
But yeah, I'm going to be grinding NL200 FR unless I have to move down because I'm 30k vpp away from SuperNova. I think I have to play somewhere in the range of 70-80k hands; if anyone has solid VPP/hand calcs at NL200 FR, I'd appreciate a more accurate count.
The most I've ever played in one month is about 45k hands, and I am a loser at NL200 FR in the small 8k hands I've played. I went over all those hands and it was a combination of running a bit bad (standard), and spewing horribly in many spots. I was waaaay overaggro during each shot. So wish me luck, because technically I'm going into the month shot-taking. I'm confident I'll be fine though, and if not, I'll just hurry up and regrind it back at NL100.
Wish me luck guys. In actuality it's not the monetary goal I want, but to prove to myself than I can really grind it out.
