I just thought there should be a centralized thread for all the Canada talk, so Canadians unite!
Post any useful or relevant info you can find about poker-ing in Canada.
TAXES:
Gambling in Canada:
From WIKIPEDIA::
Income not taxed:
The following types of income are not taxed in Canada (this list is not exhaustive):
gifts and inheritances;
lottery winnings;
winnings from betting or gambling for simple recreation or enjoyment;
I don't know whether gambling for a living is considered self employment, but I'll assume that it is:
Canada levies personal income tax on the worldwide income of individuals resident in Canada and on certain types of Canadian-source income earned by non-resident individuals.
After the calendar year, Canadian residents file a T1 Tax and Benefit Return[4] for individuals. It is due April 30, or June 15 for self-employed individuals and their spouses, or common-law partners.

TO EXTEND YOUR STAY IN CANADA YOU JUST DO ALL OF THE ABOVE SHIT AGAIN, 30 DAYS BEFORE YOUR CURRENT VISA EXPIRES.
I don't think any of you want to work or study in Canada, so I'll leave those out to save space. However, this may interest some people:
In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada.
If you wish to study in a short-term course or program You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
THIS MEANS YOU CAN TAKE A SINGLE COURSE AND LIVE IN CANADA DURING THAT COURSE, if it's less than six months long.

No. Having a permanent address is not a requirement to open a personal deposit account, but we are required by law to ask about your address. It'll be very hard for guys like us to get an actual work permit or permanent residence card because our "job" doesn't quality as a job. Hell as stated in the above post it isn't even taxable!
does it worth to select it? whats your oppinion on the subject? also it says on the site: "* Please note that maximum rake might vary for hands that are dealt twice." they take more rake when you run it twice ?
So I just went back through most of my blogs reminiscing on my poker career and ROFL i am the biggest crybaby emotional roller coaster faggot of all time. I had some pretty awesome stories sprinkled in there to make it all worth it though LOL.

Hi there.
I'm not very sure why FTP is closed for USA citizens but as I'm concerned it has something to do with some sort of FBI investigation.
But st8 to the point.And I want to make it clear - I'm not mocking here, just was stunned when I realised that FTP got many times softer when the USA has gone.I don't know if the USA are the best players or the nittest (I guess more of the second) but the matter of fact is, the games got reallyyyyyyyyy soft these days.I mean - even softer.
So, respect to all USA players and I want to share an idea that comes to my mind playing with all those ausies, costa ricans and so on...If some of you want a bulgarian flat with fast internet and FTP acc. to play with - I'm here for you.I'm pretty sure it gonna pay off for you. Just a joke.Or maybe not.
Have a nice day.

This new shit-storm-cluster-fuck has gotten me back into poker. I figure that instead of wasting my time watching and playing games like starcraft 2 I can play a game I enjoy equally (if not more. I prefer more cerebral stuff).
The goal here is to replace all mindless internet browsing/TL/pr0n with poker and other things I see value in.
The history:
About a year ago I was 19 and playing really bad poker at micro's, playing as many tables at a time chasing bonuses and rake. I was so immature and impatient that I missed the point GETTING BETTER. I played horrible post flop 'cause I felt entitled from my pre-flop range and busy because of all of my tables. I was clicking the buttons, not playing the game.
Before I got rakeback and a bonus offer from FT (and then proceeded to be a jackass. It's all my fault, no delusions here) I doubled my roll in 1c 2c EZPZ, so I'm pretty confident in playing ABC (real ABC, not ABC except for X and Y and Z like most new players (including me) do/did.
The plan:
- Max two tables
- Analyze every single hand played post flop, something I NEVER did before.
- Never change play because of bonuses or the prospect of climbing up limits faster, it's a trap.
- Never open up range due to impatience (one of the reasons I want to learn poker is to master patience, a rare skill IMO).
Can you guys think of any other points or rules I should stick with?
Tell me what you think! P.S if you have questions about Canada I might have a few answers.
I've stopped playing tournies! (not completely) but I've started playing cash again I didnt stick to my win 20 buyin move up rule and haven't played much since my last post but not too bad lol and I know how you guys like graphs so here it is
tooth loss soon? plus some ramblingsby whamm!, April 18
Gums keep bleeding and i have this blood taste in my mouth like all day lately. Each time I brush I spit blood and see my gums bleeding again, can this be Gingivitis,? does not look good, one tooth below seems wobbly too. Has anyone any idea if gums can be healed or restored to back to health by a dentist? Damn i dont wanna wear dentures in my late thirties lol
This whole poker thing was really the sum of all our fears, for hours i would read in 2p2 the stories of each and every person affected and I genuinely felt sorry for them while also being worried about my own situation. It really felt like the end of the world for some regs who built their whole lives around it, some of whom I've become friends or familiar with, even the guys whom I hated since they exploited me a lot at the tables. I hope everyone will be able to play soon and some changes to make the fish' deposit options more accessible, I honestly feel everything will be ok even for U.S. players, but this should definitely serve as a warning/lesson for everyone - plan ahead, diversify, do your research and never blindly trust anything with your money - all of the 3 ALWAYS.
I watched the movie "The Company Men", Ben affleck, tommy lee Jones etc, there was this scene where they all lost their jobs and one of the guys got so depressed at one point and said(paraphrasing) :
" You know what's the worst part of it all? My life ended when I lost my job, but life went on; my neighbor still washes his car every sunday, the paper still gets delivered daily, life went on - my world ended but NO ONE CARED BUT ME. " His statements rang so true for me personally, if I went busto now, there was nothing out there I had planned for myself, and that is something I should be trying harder to change.
I've been enjoying this summer mostly with my children and it's been a blast. Poker on the other hand has not been to great but at least im not down for the year. My little business had sold about 10 units close to its first month - not Edzwooing it but at least some are actually getting sold, I really need to go out and do some marketing since i really sell these things at the lowest price - i cant make money if i sell 10 a month. The website is still not finished and I might be finishing that soon since I'll be taking another break from poker after this. Nothings changed for me on the poker front so I might as well start making changes outside of it. Ok that's it for now, gl with all this poker stuff for everyone, everythign will be fine.
I feel ashamed having to post this here not knowing how to solve this myself(pokerplayers are suposed to not be retarded when it comes to math right) , but it was 6 years ago that i touched math so pretty much forgot it all
Is this eqution solvable with the numbers i have (if it is how?)
i know this:
a) x-662,8 = y
b) y/x = 30%
recently started studdying economics, i would appreciate any help
Played Warmup finishing 1645 / 3737 and Daily Ninety Grand 4334 / 5029 then started feeling a bit ill so unregged from Million and 2nd chance.
Found the standard was definitely worse than normal with no Americans, people open shoving 10k stacks pre at 50/100 for example! If you can run semi-good there are good chances of winning big on Sundays if the standard stays the same. I lost a huge amount of my stack with QQ on a 2 3 10 flop against 77......he hit his 2 outer, and couldn't really recover from there
Refunded the $43 unused funds to OjKa from his 10% share
Thanks for buying my action, sorry I couldn't play the others and couldn't get a result in the ones I played.
Comon! I Know there's more Canadians that visit LP that know and thingor two about the Vancouver area or about coming into Canada as a self employed person!
My personal/industry thoughts on Black Friday by HeroPoker-CEO, April 17
I've spend the last couple of days reading through many forum posts and fielded many calls from those close to me and in the industry.
When I asked my sponsored pros to come on, I didn't give them a minimum requirement to play on the site because I knew that a lot of their income was derived from playing on the major sites and I was more than fine with that. The reason being was that, while they do play on Hero Poker, I respect that they need to do the things they need to do to be the best poker player that they can be, and that does mean playing on other sites, including PS and FT.
And a couple of days ago, there was really nothing I could say,
for Hero Poker, I basically said, 'yes, we're fine' and then advised them the best I could, regarding what is going on,
but the bottom line is, for many many many players, this was very unexpected. As an industry exec, it wasn't that shocking, in fact most people in the industry thought this was going to happen a couple of years before;
but at the end of the day, this is such an unimaginable blow to so many poker players who took this as a career and are from the States and it has ramifications well beyond the States.
All I can feel is a such a great deal of sympathy and just left speechless at the level of damage done to individual poker players with their own lives and bankrolls and plans and own financial security. And while people outside of poker may think that my words are an exageration, but it does feel like a poker tsunami just smacked right into the US and then suddenly all the lights went out.
I really didn't want to say much on the subject when it first happened: I don't want to fuel any flames or make any assumptions, but of course I do have my own industry perspective which may be a bit more informed that what is out there in the media. But now after a couple of days I think there is a need to address it and while people are still in a lot of shock, I'm not try to say anything to make anyone feel shittier, but because I respect the gravity of the situation and the people it affects, I'm willing to give my perspective.
The one point I'll start with is:there is a significant difference between voluntarily leaving a market and being forced to do so; one side is pre the act of enforcement, and one side is a reaction to enforcement. On one side you have the insinuated penalties that may or may not really exist/happen, on the other side you have the actual stated penalties which are trying to be actively applied to the case which now need to be dealt with one by one.
It is a hard for me to write any of this, on both a personal and professional level, but I wanted to say; this will be a long road, I can't see it being otherwise, but PS is a good company,I have always seen them do the best that can for their players. A company is a company and it is there to make a profit, but I know that Isai would never knowingly put their players at risk. Things may be beyond the control of any one individual's hands at this point, but regardless, I also do think that also this action occurred because the US is close to to legalizing online poker on multiple fronts and levels, so the DOJ needed to make a move before this actually occurred (But this is merely my assumption).
If you want to ask a question and get a proper industry response, then post the question here and I'll answer in point form. I have read many of the responses out there and most people speculating haven't even read the indictment so their opinions are simply meaningless to start with. http://www.scribd.com/doc/53107543/Indictment-DOJ-vs-Scheinberg-Bitar-Tom-et-al
If you are going to ask me a question here, then read the above first, then write it down here.
If the answer is too sensitive to be posted below then I will PM about it and be as direct as I can be.
If it puts me at risk or my company or my players, I will not be able to answer it as I have responsibilities as well.
But I'll still acknowledge that I can't answer it.
While I will not have many of the answers that you are looking for, you're going to get a response that basically a chief executive would get from his director level staff.
I'm doing this as a service to the community here at LP and no where else,
please do not link this to another poker community site,
I will take it down if that is the case.
edit: I also don't have any insider information more than any of you, but I know what is going on from an executive level point of view, so my interpretation of the same news will understand the context involved.
Would preferably like to sell all to one person for ease of transactions but happy to sell to multiple people. This could be one of the easiest sundays in a long time so i'm confident of hopefully doing well, if variance is on my side of course
so after taking some shots @ 1/2 ive decided to play some PLO. Main reasons are because im getting a little bored of holdem, but also because there is little HU action there. Also its scary that there are more supernova elites at the tables than fish.
After taking some shots at PLO, the games seem ridiculously soft compared to holdem. Not only that but i can get consistent heads-up action at .5/1. The game does seem a little hard to follow though, sometimes i'm really unsure of what the fish are capable of doing in this game. And i love bluffing using blockers in this game.
heres a graph of holdem results so far this year, mostly 6-9 tabling 6max (with 1 table of HU) I started to 16 table .5/1 with tableninja at the end and variance started to kick in.
other than poker i played some awesome indie games recently
1st game was called: dont look back. A very hard game but has a good storyline and atmosphere to it. i would recommend sticking with the game until its completed, (it takes 15minutes to play the whole game if you've played it before)
2nd game was called: iconoclasts. This game is kinda quirky, its a platformer game with some good humor in it. However the game is unfinished and stops halfway through.
It's amazing that these two games are probably the best ive played in the last 5 years, something really sucks with the game industry at the moment.
