Worst session of my life
PanoRaMa, Nov 15 2008
maybe not worst, but at least top 3.
all 200nl
I got on only because my favorite tagfish grinder was on (guy is honestly so bad sdfjkasdfs) and started doing ok then everything just started going downhill. NP I've been through this before, I've turned around -10 bi days into breakeven days, but i just kept fucking losing no matter what i did. didnt hit a draw, everyone had sets, just got raped. so. fucking. frustrating. this is one of the worst ive felt in my entire poker "career". ive put in a lot of hands this month (all 6 tabling), but nothing just fucking works. FUCK
here's my dumb ass month.
some hands:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/568325 - this guy is the reason why i got on in the first place. note its deep stack.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/568328 - i rarely get it in as a 70% favorite with 9 high, but either way i'm destined to lose anyway.
i also promise that if i crucial ship any of the ftops or big sunday tournaments this sunday for over 100k i won't complain ever again
October Results

Swingy month sigh
98% of hands at 1/2. Started out playing looser, too much variance, tightened up in a lot of spots after talking to some better players, ended up as 22.5/18.2/3.8, zzzzzzz
Not gonna complain in this one. Just glad I hit my goal (40k hands).
Going to get rich in November, that will be the month I finally win a stupid ass donkament. Overall profit on the month including rakeback and other stuff is around 3500. BLEH, oh well I'll take it.
September Results

200nl
This post will probably be lost admist the sea of other September Results blog entries, so this is mainly for logging purposes.
After rakeback, promotions, bonus, whatever, i'm up like +5500 on the month, which is pretty crucial considering how shitty I was running in August and the start of September. Finally running goot though! Thanks FTP :D
This month I'm in a small prop bet for me to just hit at least 40k hands, which to some is nothing but to me is quite a bit. I also made a micro stakes group coaching thing for a few friends which I think should go really well. GL october.
MSNL to Busto?
PanoRaMa, Sep 03 2008
I post blog entries so infrequently that I doubt anyone's going to read this, but I'm quite possibly the worst player in the world right now, or at least I feel like it. It's actually come to the point where I'm immensely close to quitting poker altogether and have to start thinking about my alternatives for making money. If you go through my posts for the past several months you'll see nothing but the same whining and losing that has perpetuated til now. I'm officially a break-even, if not losing, player after once being able to break 200nl on FTP for 5.5ptbb over 200k hands. I won't get into details, the gist of it can be found in my earlier posts. But basically
- Since I didn't post an august results thread, I'm probably down somewhere between 3k and 4k in August alone.
- I've effectively broken even starting March, which comes out to around 180k hands or so of breakeven. I would post a graph but hands prior to May have been lost, and I'm nowhere near my desktop right now which contains all my hands since then, bu feel free to peruse previous entries.
- I'm also in quite a bit of a financial situation, which means I need to cash out the remainder of my operating roll and possibly find a stake from my higher stakes friends.
Currently I'm in Japan on the vacation of my life (yes this trip did kinda contribute to my financial situation, I'm not making excuses or anything ) and have played a bunch of poker here on my off days and have been getting absolutely manhandled at 200 and 100nl.
This is kinda one giant whine entry now that I think about it, so I'll quit complaining. To wrap up, basically within a month I should be able to figure out whether or not I want to quit this game for good (because all the time wasted and emotional strain this game gives me is no good whatsoever for me, I'd rather focus on my other forms of income). For the time being, I'm effectively BUSTO! GL to me.
Uninteresting July Results
PanoRaMa, Jul 31 2008
Sigh, another sub-par month. I guess I really just suck? I dunno, but I'm on a 60k breakeven right now (if I were to expand my graph to previous months). I did have a nice rally towards the end so that I didn't end the month in the red or breakeven, so that's nice, and admittedly I did run pretty good in that stretch, so let's hope it continues. Graph is 18k hands at 2/4, 20k hands at 1/2.
I AM making significant adjustments though. I'm now playing a tighter style, as I'm usually 27/22 but now I've tightened up to roughly 23/19. I might even be adjusting this to 21/17. Overall I'm bluffing a lot less, and just being a bit more solid overall, while retaining my lag post-flop knowledge but with now I have better hands since I'm folding marginal hands a lot more .
So I'm basically a tag now, which is kinda unfun but I really need to focus on just making money right now because I'm about to be dicked by a shitton of expenses. Fall quarter is starting up so rent + tuition + buying shit for the new apartment is going to own me. Also I'm heading to Japan (and possibly Macau for APPT Macau) in 24 days so that's going to burn my wallet for sure. Going to try to grind as much as possible while I'm still in the states, but I'm ofc brining my laptop to grind a bit while overseas (staying in Japan for a whole month).
GL everyone
OH YEAH some hands since I've been forgetting:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/491781 - I get a retarded tagfish to 3bet/call Q9o and stack off on a monotone board ship it
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/493697 - Multi street bluff deep in 3b pot
V FOR VARIANCE
PanoRaMa, Jul 26 2008
one of my swingiest days in recent memory. Super run good -> run poor/some spew -> run good again. FINALLY ftp letting me run good hopefully it just isn't a 1 day phase. I actually quit at the very bottom of the V pissed off as hell, then started a night session with only one goal: winning it all back.
AND NOW IM EVEN FOR THE MONTH ROFL ASDFKJDASKLFSD
GOD I can't take this anymore..
PanoRaMa, Jul 08 2008
I've never been so close to quitting poker than now. I really don't know how this is happening. Emo post incoming.
My July
Since May
I only have hands since May because I don't have hands prior to that on this computer. If I were to check though I'd imagine the 2/4 shit stretch to be even longer (150k hands ish). Note pics are in bb/100 not ptbb (halve the figure to make it into ptbb).
For 4 months I've just been running like dog shit. I've constantly re-evaluated my game. I talk poker with some of the best players in the world, my coach is one of the greatest players to play this game, etc etc. I just really can't figure out why I can't seem to win anymore. I could easily be wrong, and maybe I'm just spouting crazy talk, but I honestly felt at one point I was good enough to be a 5/10 grinder (not a great feat by any means though) - only that I could never build a 50bi roll because of cash outs and because I could never run hot and have the 20k month I've always wanted. Sure I'll have a session where I'd run good, say maybe a 5k stretch. But it's always sandwiched inbetween huge stretches of running like trash. Almost every form of running bad that can be listed is happening to me: 1 outers, set over sets, nonstop flip lose stretches, overpair vs overpair ai pf coolers, always the 2nd best vs the pure nuts, etc. It's really, really astounding to me how so much of this shit can happen. It's not even "the shortterm" anymore because I've been complaining about the same issues since like February or March now.
Overall since coming to Stars I'm down at least 7k there in mostly 1/2. One fucking two. The limit I decided that 8ptbb/100 was sustainable at, my stomping grounds. It's not as if the players have gotten better, sure there's less fish, but the games are filled with so many tagfish it's amazing. Players with no concept of game theory, of hand reading, of anything, but manage to win flips and cooler and have hands hold. Effectively, that's what it comes down to in order to sustain a 5ptbb winrate for these players it seems.
I've devoted the past 6 months to sharpening my abilities of playing a loose, aggressive poker style, now I'm starting to have second thoughts maybe I should just move back to FTP and grind 16 tables playing 16/12. It seems to work for those nits.
What can I do?
Edit: At the end of my March, I posted in my blog where I had the first losing month of my life. Ket replied with some encouraging words and I'd like to think they help, although this feels completely different than my March now. I really like to read it, so if you're interested I pasted it below.

yeah respect for making posts like this. usually ppl just make poker related blog posts right after a stretch where theyve done really well, to show off. not to say you shouldnt in times like this make an effort to question and reassess your game thoroughly (because you def should and its a healthy pitstop on the road to improvement instead of refusing to admit any chance it could be anything other than running bad), but these sort of stretches definitely happen to everyone and it can definitely even be a lot worse. ive had 3 100k hand breakeven stretches in my career, i cant claim to have been playing my best through them but i dont think anyone can realistically claim to play as well when theyre losing as they will when theyre winning. running bad and playing bad often go hand in hand and can start to form vicious cycles. but yeah what youre going through now is tough and always toughest the first time it happens to you, but if youre still grinding this time next year youll finally realise its a part of playing this game and how you deal with it is a big part of being a poker player, and if you pass the test of dealing with it well (which is a huge test many if not most poker players fail) then youll find every time you go on stretches like this they become a little less severe and drastic and you tiltspew a little less during them each time they come. also youll feel less and less invincible during the periods when youre winning (which is definitely a very good thing)
as this is unlike anything youve gone through so far in your poker 'career', consider this a rite of passage. and if you can successfully get through it and bounce back to reach new heights you can consider yourself part of the very small group that know what it means to rise up and be successful over the long haul (at games and stakes worth being successful in).
kill me plz

I just don't know what to fuckin do when everyone has a set and I've got an overpair. Granted there are times where I can get away from these sketchy situations, I just find it absolutely amazing that everyone mother fucking hits sets like the ice cream man's givin them out for free or something, fuck man.
Ok so I managed to make a decent amount of money (+4200 at 1/2, -2400 at 2/4), but I also lost 1200 ish on the Lakers this month, so I'm almost effectively broken even this month. It's fucking weird knowing I made more in the June of 2007 than I did this June. Retarded game.
Anyway, got a new desktop and I love how it doesn't lag at all. Gonna be easy for me to start robotic grinding. Going to absolutely destroy 200 and 400nl stars next month, and hopefully put in 50k hands or more. I wanted 40k hands this month but the last week of school (finals) + MGS4 just isn't good for the grinding mindset .
Some hands to end the month:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/474846 - 2pair vs 2 FDs ldo never win
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/472543 - Win a 3 way race? ME? HAH!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/475404 - My AQ "sucks out" on QQ, I must run like god (hilarious)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/475405 - GOD DAMN what is with my AQ sucking out on QQ all the time (equally hilarious)
OH god damn

month graph
I was on a tear in June running pretty damn well but I guess all things have to end (and go the opposite direction for an uncertain amount of time). Lost 3.5k today which is the most I've lost in poker ever since 8/7/07 the day I learned to not monkey tilt anymore (lost 4k that day as a mediocre 200nl player taking tilt shots at 600nl blah blah it's in my blog somewhere).
I started playing on Stars. It's tough getting used to the software but whatever. The players are nothing too special in my small sample, but I don't think I've played with ALL the regs yet. The consensus is that stars MSNL is softer than FTP (in that FTP is a lot more aggro and thus high variance). Typically I find myself being one of the better players on the table, with a tag next to me taking me for stacks hitting nonstop sets on my ass. Oh and who plays with PiS.tOtO? God that guy is terrible took him for 1.5k yesterday (which was promptly donated to the pano-lose-with-AA/KK-fund).
I also lost a significant sum of money on the Lakers, FUCK. We'll be back in 08-09..
So life sucks right now and it's like 500 degrees so playing long hours is IMPOSSIBLE when I'm sweating all over the place and also losing a thousand dollars per hour recently. Going to buy a fan tomorrow and get a PS3 with METAL GEAR FUCKIN SOLID 4 as another form of anti tilt for me.
Some stupid ass hands:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/454664 - I played this a while ago, I don't think I ever posted it in a blog update though. Anyway, std crazy ass aggro fish villain deepstacked he pretty much can have a lot here even though overpairs obv make up part of his range as well. Was a thin shove (if you call here with these remaining stacks you might as well shove) but I'm glad it worked bleh.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/469776 - Oh baby I love deep stacked vs fish.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/470254 - Except when it turns out like this. HONESTLY how can I ever give him credit for quads here? I mean compared to the times he just has air here or another ace or something. Guy is a fish not a reg or anything.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/470257 - Stupid standard bs where I let stupid one dimensional tags bet bet bet ofc i get punished for my "slowplay" so w/e

wemade/mbc on the tv, woulda got ktf/hanbit on the desktop monitors but my daum doesn't work well on my desktop for some reason.
So I haven't been playing much lately, just been moving all my crap back to my house for the summer etc. etc. Gonna do some live coaching tonight after the Lakers game which will hopefully encourage me to put in more hands, so until then, no poker update :o although I'm still up 4k on the month which is pretty nice for playing like 7k hands.
Still looking for ftp -> stars transfers let me know!
