Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
  JonnyCosMo, Apr 04 2007

So recent I've been searching for a new watch (since I left my old favorite Fossil watch in Hawaii with my best friend while I was on vacation there) and so me and milkman have been searching for baller status at an affordable price. It's actually kind of funny how much some people pay for these watches because I'm pretty sure 95% of the price on some of these things are just for the name. Rolex, being one example, has a dozen watches all worth sick amounts of dough, but all baller status ofcourse. While scanning their website I found my dream watch:

May I Introduce to you...The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona

This watch was even named for me. Unfortunately I looked at the price and threw up (Somewhere in the neighborhood of $10,000 at the minimum, figures something that's tagged with "Cosmo" would be that baller :-P). So I guess the search continues. Anyone know of a good watch that has a similar style to this one, but is also somewhat affordable? Like in the mini-baller range of under $1000? If so, give me a heads up.

I Run Like a Special Olympics Runner
  JonnyCosMo, Apr 03 2007

... So today sucked some royal ass. Started off the day early and played a session that lasted 2 hours and came out of it down $450. Then after my nap and a work out I kicked up another session and managed to lose another $500 all at NL200. Like wtf... I think this picture sums up what I'm feeling:

Playing E-Poker at Hollywood Park

Notice how I'm still smiling? I'm pretty sure I was stuck like $300 all to Daut and Lyric at the time this picture was taken. This about sums up my feeling of fake wonderfulness. I feel like jumping into oncoming traffic.

On another note, I'd like to take this time to point out how bad carrotsnake is at poker. Why do people at twoplustwo think this guy is the God of NL200 on Stars?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/168605 <-- Calls a 4 bet all-in with AJo
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/168604 <-- Retard bluff vs a total aggro donk. What does he expect the guy to fold? LOL...

This guy is so stupid it hurts my head. If you think he's good or hard to play against, your probably not too good yourself. There is no way this guy wins at the winrate he claims on the twoplustwo forums.

Lyric's Edge Calculation Thingy
  JonnyCosMo, Apr 02 2007

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sho...?Cat=0&Number=9800837&an=&page=0&vc=1

It's a pretty good read, although I dont really grasp how exactly he got his edge % calculation. Basically all you need is a SQL database from your PokerTracker, and then there is some info in that thread that can show you by how much of a % you are beating the game.

Here's an example from Lyric's own database since he beats 5/10 at 1.78% (which is rather good even thou it sounds small). He states: Here is the expected variance for a 1.78% edge over 32K hands. None of these outcomes would be anything but completely ordinary for my edge/skill level. This is pretty sick considering 32K hands is about 10 months of playing live poker full time:

Note: The edge percentage is calculated using the total amount "bet," and but not necessarily put at risk. So it's not accurate in cases where you push all-in for $1,000 and your opponent only has $63 in front of him. In that case you'd still be counted as "risking" $1,000 when in fact you only risked $63. Not perfect, but a pretty fancy guess.

Pretty interesting stuff. So now I'm trying to figure out how I get mine. If you dont know who Lyric is, he's the guy who made DonkeyTest / The Poker IQ Test (http://www.donkeytest.com).

Re-boost my blog
  JonnyCosMo, Apr 01 2007

Ok so I decided for April I'll prolly keep my blog updated a little bit more. Why? I dont know... I just got a lot of free time so I might as well. March was a pretty decent month for me. I felt that I had really good game selection for most of the month, as I constantly tagged all the fish I came across and tracked them for multiple days. Towards the end of the month I started to get a little lazy on that part and was playing some of the regulars heads up (probably not the smartest of things to do, but I didn't do so bad vs most of them).

March 2007:

March PT Stats:

Not really sure what job I'm going to be getting in the near future that will net me a $137/hr pay wage... God the real world is going to be sick hard to get back into. LOL whatever. 2+2 made some thread about regulars at NL200 on PokerStars and FullTilt. Enjoyed reading some of their lists... most of them were very laughable. I'm not going to give out my donkey/fish list caz that would be just silly but I'll give my insight on people some of you new NL200 6-max guys should avoid at PokerStars.

ZeKGB - Seems pretty tough, knows what he's doing most of the time, and plays a good semi-LAG at 26/20.

sputnik3000 - Very solid and tight player. Almost never makes a move in marginal spots, yet somehow still gets people to pay him off for every big hand. How does he do it? I have no clue... and I dont think he will be getting nearly as much action when people start to figure out how big of a nit he is. But until then, he's one of the better ones.

Colombo218 - I think he's some high stakes player that busted his bankroll and moved down for a week to rebuild at 1/2. Pretty sick hard to play against, although he seems to have tilt problems.

FrinkX - The real deal, kid doesn't take shit. Spews at times, but that is quickly made up by the fact that he gets people to spew harder to him. Very uncomfortable to play out of position.

SmokedYou - Solid player. He makes very good value bets as well. Seems not to ever be out of line, never to tilt, and that's pretty key at NL200.

goose58 - I use to think he was really bad. Recently I think he's improved a great deal, or he was just running bad the first couple times I played him. He's really aggressive, but for the most part he just looks more aggro then he really is.

actionDJ - My boy Derric is a smart kid. Nothing out of the ordinary, pretty ABC. Never tilts, rarely spews, reads people very well. And again, if you have those very simple things down, your usually a big winner at NL200.

seannolan - Seany is very very very very good. Once he plays 1/2 some more, I believe he'll be one of the top winning regulars easily. He constantly makes it hard on people to play out of position against him. Has good tilt control.

DF_Newb - Seems to be a strong TAG player. The funny thing is, he's one of the bigger losers on my PT for the month of March, but mainly caz he's just running like horse shit. I'm pretty sure he plays better than 95% of the NL200 players on stars thou.

kmoney - He just took me to school so hard the other day. ZOMG. This guy is very aggressive in position, and to top it off, he makes some SIIICCK value shoves which leads me to believe he can get pretty strong reads on players. He's capable of making big bluffs as well, so he's very difficult to play against.

I'm probably missing out on a couple others, but those were the ones that came off the top of my head.

Daut's Life... Graphed
  JonnyCosMo, Mar 28 2007

So the other day Daut linked me to a post he made in the BBV at twoplustwo about his grad school:

Quote Daut:

Brag: I havent been to my Abstract Algebra 2 class in 2 months (since the first week of classes) because Im too cool for school and im such a baller

Beat: There's a test coming up and I dont know what we've been learning because I havent gone to class

Variance: i just found out the test is tomorrow and since its a math phd program, everyone is asian (not like asian american, asian from china and barely speak any english) so I cant ask anyone in the class what we've been doing

Graph away boys and girls

So graph away I did...

Is Poker Pissing On You?
  JonnyCosMo, Feb 19 2007

I've always used this metaphor to help describe what kind of personalities play poker. Different people handle bad situations differently. And lets face it, there are a lot of bad situations in poker. So the question of the day is:

What do you do when poker starts pissing on you?

Imagine the following: You are standing in some random spot. At the same time, there is a man who is on top of a ladder, pants around his ankles and using what the good lord gave him to release the golden shower on top of your head. Yes he is pissing on you. So what is your course of action?

The Bankroll Nit - He doesn't like getting pissed on for the obvious reasons. But he lacks the balls to do anything about it. In response to getting pissed on, he simply moves out of the way. The poker equivalent to this would be someone who plays it safe, if they can't beat a game they move down and grind until they feel it's safe to move back up and tackle the higher stakes. This guy often uses the 100 buy-in rule to justify taking a shot. At the same time, is willing to accept help but doesn't necessarily need it.

The Safe Grinder - He doesn't like getting pissed on either. But he has a little more balls than the regular bankroll nit. In response to getting pissed on, he kicks down the ladder and runs away. The poker equivalent would be someone who plays it safe most of the time, moving down when he needs to, but does everything in his power to move up within his "safe" limits. He often uses a safe 30-40 buy-in rule to justify taking shots. At the same time, he is willing to accept help but doesn't necessarily need it.

The Stubborn Grinder - He doesn't mind getting pissed on. He can take it! In fact, he's probably very use to it. In response to the situation, he grabs an umbrella and stays in the same location. The poker equivalent would be someone who refuses to move down in stakes even when they are losing. They just don't lower themselves to "running away" from the problem and face the problem head on. Often times they don’t use any bankroll management at all. At the same time, they accept help from anyone who can give it to them. Most of the time they need a lot of help. But eventually they will learn to deal with the problem from their experience.

The Stubborn Degenerate - He doesn't mind getting pissed on. And from the looks of it, he seems to enjoy it. In response to the situation, he willingly stays in the same spot and continues to get pissed on. The stubborn degenerate always seems to think that if he stays in the same spot long enough that maybe the guy will stop pissing on him. The poker equivalent would be someone who has too big of en ego to ever move down. Nor do they accept help from anyone else. They think they play perfect poker and there is nothing to learn from anyone. When poker starts pissing on the stubborn degenerate, he blames it on variance and hopes that his luck will break even. Sadly he never learns and often goes busto because of it.

The Degenerate Gambler - He likes getting pissed on, and everyone knows this is a fact. In response to the situation, he firmly plants his ass in the same spot and finds enjoyment in getting pissed on. The poker equivalent would be someone who knows they suck, but just plays to have a good time. And a good time they have as they blow through their bankrolls and redeposit several times. They never want to take the time to learn anything from anyone, and therefore they find this habit a repeating cycle.

The Winning Grinder – He doesn’t like getting pissed on. And he has the balls and the smarts to do something about it. In response to the situation, he kicks down the ladder, then gets into a fight with the guy pissing on him. There is no guarantee that he wins the fight, and sometime the guy that was pissing on him kicks the Winning Grinder’s ass and gets back on top of the ladder and continues to piss on him. But one thing is clear: the Winning Grinder does not take shit and does something about it. The poker equivalent would be someone who learns from his experience, and has the balls to do something about it. He uses the 20 buy-in rule, but rarely finds the need to move down since he learns quick and figures out how to beat games. He accepts help from people around him but rarely needs it.

The Big Winner – He doesn’t like getting pissed on. What he does like is pissing on other people. In response to the situation, he climbs up the ladder, pushes down the guy on top of it, and then starts pissing on him. The Big Winner always finds ways to turn problems around and benefit from them. He picks his fights well, and doesn’t get into conflict unless he needs to. The poker equivalent would be your typical SBRugby or GreenPlastic. They are smart about the game, they use safe bankroll management skills, and pick their spots very well. They will run away from a problem if it is profitable for them, they will tackle a problem head on if it seems profitable for them. They see the bigger picture and figure out how to be the biggest winner.

So what type of player are you? And please be as honest as possible.

Poll: What poker personality best fits you in this situation?

(Vote): The Stubborn Grinder

Your Welcome luminous :(
  JonnyCosMo, Feb 11 2007

So yesterday we got a semi-LP.net home game together with mfcmurray, Avi8tion, tbc79, luminous, and myself at a NL25 6-Max table. I proceeded to do my usual ass kicking and built up a nice stack of $125+ through these hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144706 - tbc how you expect to think that's going to hold vs me? I run infinitly good. You should know that!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144708 - Obv I have quads here. Surprised? You shouldn't be! I get this hand like 15 times a day!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144709 - The river loves JonnyCosMo.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144710 - Re: what I said above.

Then Lee Jones seemed to have enough of me pwning ass for one night, as I proceeded to be souly responsible for rebuilding luminous' bankroll in the following hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144711 - Gah Cooler!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/144712 - ZOMG how does KK hold up here??

And finally... this hand is just too ugly for a hyper-link:
