Cashout curse
  KwarK, Jan 11 2009

I simply cannot win a hand. I cashed out a lot of my roll for rent after Christmas. Throughout Christmas I was beating nl50 and I left myself with $600 for 25nl. I'm now down to half that. My EV is great, my sick calls in the right places, my bluffcatching great and my TAG regging working fine. What I cannot do is avoid being 2 outered, gutshotted, runner runnered etc. This blog is just a huge whine because I'm fucking sick of this shit. I'm a big winner at 50nl, I'm a huge winner of Sklansky bucks at 25nl, so why can't I fucking win any pots.
God I'm so tilted. But whining to others about how unlucky I am tends to help that from time to time so whatever. Gonna take a break and see if I can clear my head and then go down to 10nl (God what am I doing there?!?!) and try and grind back up.
I hate poker sometimes.

Edit: If anyone fancies staking me please pm me and we'll work something out. I really shouldn't be at 10nl. It's just depressing. I'd be willing to accept partial stakes to bring my roll up to 20 buyins for either 50nl or 25nl. I can provide my stats etc.
I've cashed out over $5k lifetime so I should be a profitable stakee.

Throwing away stars bonuses
  KwarK, Dec 24 2008

So I was lucky enough to be dealt into a stars milestone hand in which everyone gets several buyins and the winner gets like 12 buyins. I read this, considered it briefly, looked down at my K2o and failed to consider the pot odds. The pot odds of a $25 shove into a $310+ pot. So, I folded my K2o. Which is unfortunate because it would have won.

Sigh. It's late and I'm tired. But throwing away 10 buyins because I think 12:1 pot odds aren't good enough to play with any 2 is frustrating.

Berate me please, I deserve it.

Poker justice
  KwarK, Sep 05 2008

There's an idiot playing really badly and talking shit on my table. Nobody has so much as said a word to him in chat but he insists upon a barrage of personal abuse to the entire table. Unfortunately he was running like God for the first quarter of an hour and quadrupled up. Every time he won a pot he'd tell the loser who he sucked out on that he'd spend it on their mother, or some other such insult. Flopping trips with 27o and cracking QQ etc. It was pretty brutal stuff and even though we all had the dignity to ignore his verbal abuse it was obvious the beats were getting to the table. Some players started tilting a bit and one of the tightest players I know (11/9/2 over 3000 hands) started shoving AQo pf.
However he didn't have the sense to just hit and run. He thought his suckouts would last forever and his good run ended shortly and brutally. The pot sizes and the players he lost them two were very precise. Almost as if ordained by some higher power. First he gave each player he'd sucked out on a complete refund for pretty much the same as he'd taken. Then he sucked out on the nit a few times and got a decent stack. Then he gave it all to me. He really started shit talking then so I got a mod in and he muted him which was :D. He doubled up his last 20bb on my nit who said "donk table" which was the first thing I'd ever seen him say in 3000 hands at tables with him and left. I enjoyed that too, I liked seeing really tight nits tilt and act human like everyone else. His final 40bb went to me as AKo held against A3o pf and he just instaleft.

I share this story because poker is a brutal and very painful game which very rarely shows any sign of justice. In this case it did. The asshole lost all his money, all his pride and got muted. The 3 other players at the table got full refunds from him and the nit who had always seemed robotic went on crazy tilt and gave the asshole two buyins which ended up in my pocket. Life is good.

Running v good
  KwarK, Aug 29 2008

After losing WCGUK to Midian (again lol) I finally threw in the towel with Starcraft and decided to give poker a real shot. I got pretty good at microstakes around Christmas but hadn't really played since then because I got absolutely owned in January and lost half my roll. I'd cashed out most the rest and just left $120 in there. So I started poker again 17 days ago with $120 playing 2nl. I gave myself a 4 tables max rule because my 12 table style was high variance and low skill and I didn't feel I'd improve with it.

I spent like 5 days getting to $200 on 2nl because I was 4 tabling and I suck at 2nl. Once there I spent 9 days (including 3 days off to turn 20) to get to $500. Once there I spent 3 days getting to $1000. I'd only ever been to 50nl once before and I got completely owned so I was really quite nervous about it. Especially because I believe that I'm not really owning anywhere near as much as the results suggest, I'm just luckboxing. Anyway, after speaking to Midian and Ket I decided 20 buyins = move up. Long story short, I ran like God.

I'd like to thank Ket and Midian because moving up went v well so I'm a fair amount better off thanks to them. I'd also really like to thank Artanis and Silver because having them around to sweat me, review my hands, show me interesting spots, talk through theory with me, argue over playstyles and give their opinions are pretty much the only reason I'm any good at this game. I can't thank the two of them enough for always being willing to make me a better player, regardless of how demanding or whiney I am.

So, the graph. :D

Can pt3 calculate turnover?
  KwarK, Aug 27 2008

One thing I've always really wanted to know is my turnover at poker. Rather than just profit (hands won - hands lost - rake) I want to know the total I'd have won if I'd never lost a pot, how much money goes through my hands etc. Any way of getting pokertracker to calculate it?
Thanks.

BW Betgames
  KwarK, Apr 23 2008

So I ran sickbad today and dropped 4 buyins which given I was only playing 20 BI deep is a lot. I'll probably move down to be safe. Anyway, I'm tilted with poker and ready to give up for a few days. As such I need another way of recovering some money.

First things first, I'm looking to win money doing this so ideally I'm looking for a degen who hasn't played bw in 2 years but remembers it being pretty fun. This means that if you're just looking to win money you probably won't get much action from me, when I'm in a good mood I'll happily play fun betgames but right now it doesn't appeal.
I'll accept all sorts of handicaps for different odds, strange maps, off races, computers etc. Whatever makes it fun for you works for me.
Also I play microstakes so we're talking about very little money riding on each game because quite frankly, if I get hustled or do something retarded I don't wanna go busto.

Basically if you want to have some fun playing bw and messing around with handicaps and other degen stuff and don't mind risking a dollar or 3 then please pm me. All payment done on stars and all games played on iccup (too many hack scandals recently).

Anyone played on pkr.com?
  KwarK, Apr 15 2008

Been looking at this site for a while for a much more idle poker habit. I play microstakes (25nl) so fairly casually and with uni work increasing soon I'll be playing less than normal. I've been thinking that because pkr isn't compatable with pokertracker it'll have very few regs, and the intensive advertising and ridiculous USP (zomg I can make my person do tells) will make it fishy. If I'm not playing seriously then I may be better off on a site like pkr than stars.

Any thoughts or feedback by people on pkr?

Downswing over?
  KwarK, Apr 09 2008

I've been losing pretty steadily for about a fortnight (with one winning day) and have only still got a bankroll because of the dedication and patience of Artanis and Silver. That and moving down over and over. Furthermore I think my continual requests for help have worn out my goodwill with Midian. However today I was able to post a winning day. I think my play is improving with the regular poker I'm playing and I definitely ran better than normal (I even hit some sets). I've been building bluffs into my game and it's been earning me a dollar here and there and I've been making some good calls. I'm slowly learning to build stats into my game and I think I'm getting the hang of actually using them rather than just being aware of them.
I think I've also improved my play by working on focus, avoiding music, browsing or msn. Also staying well hydrated is a must for long periods of concentration and I'm finding it well worth the constant trips to the toilet.

Anyway, my results for the day at 25nl.

Thanks to all the people who commented on hands I posted btw, that helps a lot too.

25nl update
  KwarK, Apr 03 2008

So I got speaking to Ket and he laid into me for grinding up from 10nl despite being both able to roll myself at 25nl and having an edge at it. Apparently this kind of thing is hugely bad for progress. Anyway he explained it to me and I got the roll and moved up. And then I got doomswitched and lost over 6 buyins (my stoploss). I wasn't playing badly and I checked a few of the bigger hands with Midian who confirmed they were coolers/beats. It was just one of those sick days where variance decides to take it out on you.
However, today she took pity on me and refunded me the entirity of my losses. While I know your expected outcome is in no way changed by previous luck I just had my second biggest winning day (in about 2 hours of poker, unlike the 10 of my biggest day) after my second biggest losing day. I'm still down a little over about 8k hands so well below my expected profit (I should be doing about 5bb/100) but in far better shape than I was. I definitely ran well today, and although I didn't suck out on anyone I feel that I won about 90% of my money going in on 70%s.
