BUSTO
  Sicks Macks, Mar 28 2010

No not really busto. I mean who ever is when they put that in their blog title? But my account balance is nothing but some leftover points and some $26 tokens I haven't used yet, $0.00 in real money. I've talked about quitting poker before, but ultimately I didn't need to "quit", I just kind of stopped playing as frequently, and then not at all. This weekend I realized I hadn't played online in 2 months, and I have plenty of uses for the 6k I still had sitting there.

I still like the game, it's just no longer my obsession. Unfortunately for my bottom line, Modern Warfare 2 is my new obsession (no money in that), but ever since I got that game poker has just been a way to make money. As for the money part, my real life job is going so well I don't need poker money to be able to live well. Add my social life to that, and there's just really not a lot of room for poker.

I hope to still be a part of the community, though I'm probably not going to comment on as many hands as I used to, and maybe if I get bored (or unemployed) I'll put some money back online at some point. Obviously poker will still be my go-to game live, and I've been mulling over playing some WSOP events (as a tourist). The good news for those of you who still choose to read my blog is I'll hopefully start replacing pictures of runbad graphs with pictures of yours truly out on the town. Unless you guys want mw2 content. In which case this could be a MW2 only blog. Don't tempt me.

Courtside
  Sicks Macks, Mar 16 2010

I am definitely getting old when I get excited about going to sleep. After working very hard, and losing an hour of sleep over the weekend, I was legitimately fired-up that I was going to be in bed by 7pm last night. Well, at noon a friend called me up and asked me if I wanted to go the the Celtics-Pistons game, and insta-refused, because of my-old man bedtime. He says "OK", and hangs up, then immediately texts me "don't want to say this out loud at the office, but these are courtside tickets".

Hmmm, that changes things.

I've never sat actually on the court. I've been ~4 rows back twice, and have found that basketball is infinitely more fun the closer you get, plus these seats are well over 1k each per game, so it's tough to say no.

I went, and was not disappointed. It was a blow-out, but it was a blast because, well, you actually get to talk to the players. I was still a little wide-eyed about it, but my friends were making full use of the occasion, and were jawing back and forth with members of both teams. It was a completely different experience than even just being a row back, tons of fun, and definitely something I would buy if I could afford the 60k per year or whatever it is for each seat. Apparently we were on TV a bunch, but in the highlights I could only see my back, and well I know what I look like so I don't care to look harder.

For those interested, here was my seat:

HAI GUISE
  Sicks Macks, Mar 08 2010

Hey, I've pretty much stopped playing poker. I suck ass (1ptbb at nl100), and it stresses me out, so I haven't played in a month. That said, I still lurk the shit out of lp, so I wanted to say hi.

I hope you guys all run good, I'm just jamming out to Wale. Enjoy this jam. Obviously I'm drunk.

Hockey, eh?
  Sicks Macks, Feb 21 2010

Led by members of the greatest hockey organization on the face of the planet (the New Jersey Devils), the second greatest hockey organization on the face of the planet (Team USA) defeated our noble northern neighbors today.

MW2!!!!!
  Sicks Macks, Feb 16 2010

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has completely consumed the time that used to be dedicated to poker. I just got the game 8 days ago and I'm already hooked like none other. I think I've picked it up fast. My first 5 days I was like a 0.5 k/d, now I'm >2 over the last few days. In fact I just had a beautiful 35-0 game in which 4 of the kills were with a knife because I ran out of ammo with my primary and secondary (only like 18 of the kills were killstreak).

I can tell I pretty much won't rest until I can get my K/d to 3. Is anyone else as obsessed with this game as I am? If so, share how you like to play. For those that are interested here's my style:

Now excuse me while I grind GROOOOOUUUUND WARRRR (the only way to play imo)

Sick 25/50 Degen
  Sicks Macks, Feb 04 2010

So I played in the NL5k game tonight (aka GBP 1/3) at the Vic in London. It was interesting; it's clearly still a soft game, but it was different from live games in the US. Maybe it was just variance, but it seemed fish here understood preflop raise-sizing, and the concept of taking the initiative. I saw fish iso-raising other fish light, nit-regs squeezing light, etc. It seems preflop is much more solved among the live crowd here than in the states. That said, people still played super-face-up post flop and spewed horribly with TPNK and the like. As an aside, playing poker not in your home currency means it feels like play-money and you don't care about winning or losing.

Hands of note:

-I iso a fish with J5cc (Jackson Five, wut wut), get min3bet from an okay-ish player in the sb, fish folds, I call (?) 130bbs deep. Fold to a 2/3 pot cbet on QJxc (?). Still not sure about this one.

-I cold 4bet a fish 95bb bb deep with KK, shove 50bb into like a 60bb pot on the flop and he folds.

-I open 98dd in MP, get calls out of the blinds. I cbet 2/3 on J64ss, get one call. I check back an 8h turn. River is the 8c, fishy player leads 1/2 pot. He has less than a PSR behind so I tank/shove, he calls with 75dd. I'm pretty sure he's bet/reluctantly-sighing-calling JTo on the river so I like my play.

-I iso with A4hh, get a cold caller (fish) and the original fish. 653ss flop, I lead 2/3, I get a call and a minshove. I call, other fish calls. 7s turn, fish 1 checks, I bet 1/3 pot. He calls. River Kd, he checks, I bet 1/2 pot, he calls. I win vs 73cc (sidepot fish) and 65o (guy who shoved).

-I win a lot of pots by iso-ing and c-betting.

Results:
+135 GBP from poker
-75 GBP from getting massaged most of the time I was there (such a sick service that I would pay for in just about any setting)

Unfortunately did not get to catch F4Zi, ah well.

London Poker?
  Sicks Macks, Feb 04 2010

What's the best place to play in London (tonight)? I am probably just going to play 1/2 or 1/3 because that's like 25/50 usd.

London LP'ers are welcome to come try and take my money or share a drink. Fair warning: I'm probably only going to be out playing briefly because I have work early tomorrow.

FR or NL50?
  Sicks Macks, Jan 22 2010

I love Rush Poker, it's really got me enthusiastic about poker in a way I haven't been in a long time. I guess I was always paranoid about being played back at or exploited, and now I get to play without that stress. I run much bigger bluffs than I normally do, because fuck it, only 1 guy tops is going to see me be a monkey. Stylistically there's some other cool stuff that I get to do comfortably that I couldn't do otherwise, though I don't really want to talk about it yet. On the practical side, Rush allows me to get in enough hands to fight against variance even though I work full time, ski weekends, and generally never have time for poker. So long as games continue to run, I don't think I'll ever touch the normal stuff again.

The thing is, I want to 6-table this bitch (8, maybe, someday...). I'm definitely playing 4 tables of NL100 6-max Rush, but what should I add for the other two? NL50 is a little small for me, but I'm much more comfortable with the table dynamics than at FR (must... not... fold... jacks... pre... must... 5-bet shove). I know (hope?) none of you know my particular game well enough to give specific advice, but what are people's thoughts about mixing FR & 6-max? Is it easy enough to figure how to play the first 3 positions in FR? Does folding AQo UTG hurt every time you do it, or do you get numb to the pain?
