Simple question - are there any reload promotions currently going on at PS? GF is looking to reload the account. Thanks!
In other news, anybody want to split a 4 pack of Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition? It is for PC delivered by Steam, information link here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/45760/
I have a friend that is getting into poker. He already deposited without talking to me so he just has a deposit bonus and no rb. What effective rb % is he getting right now (with just the bonus)? Just curious as to how much he's potentially missing out on.
Does anybody know what % affiliates actually receive? I think it's somewhere around 33% but it could be a little/much higher. All I know is I'm only getting the flat 27% and feel unsatisfied about it (but am pretty much committed due to 12+ Iron Man months).
I heard that he can apply for cashback from FTP so I had him send an email asking, but any information about other options would be good too.
Not necessarily in order of importance, but they all are pretty tilting:
1. People with breakeven EVs complaining about variance. If you have a breakeven EV, you are effectively flipping coins, and it should be obvious that you can easily get into a bad swing. There is a DIRECT CORRELATION between your winrate and variance. The higher your winrate, the lower variance you will have. Sound about right? Well it goes the other way too, fuckface. Stop posting 10 buyin "downswings" when your EV is neutral-negative. IMO this is probably my hugest complaint because sooo many people do it and even moreee people don't care to read it.
Sidenote: Of course, EV doesn't "show" everything, but is generally accepted as the vehicle with which one can complain about their luck. Replying and saying, "well, I got fucking coolered man and they got there on the river etc." just shows a complete ignorance of variance.
2. Posting bad beats. An example would be K40Cheddar. We've all gotten one outed before, and we don't particularly care about yours, because it wasn't ours. We only care about our own beats. Therefore, a nice adjustment to make is to keep it to yourself, because only you truly understand and care about how savage it was. Would be nice to have less litter in the "Hands" section although this may just be a pipedream.
3. Posting that "microstakes" is super duper easy. It's actually not for so many reasons, which I'll try to cover here:
a. There are so many breakeven nits that are trying to grind out bonuses. It is impossible to get a significant edge over them (especially as a beginning player), so your only comfort is that they are in the long term, also breakeven.
b. Highest % of rake, especially for people who are trying to do it at Pokerstars. This should be obvious, but I found Maynard's "low-midstakes black hole" blog extremely enlightening. I therefore immediately started staking my GF in higher games.
c. Not having resources that cost money. This can mean access to coaching, HEM or training videos. When people are so polarized between "nit-bonus hunter" and "casual gambler", new grinders have a choice. Concentrate on finding out who is who (low # of tables, higher winrate but still grinding out White Castle burgers), or, have a high # of tables, generally don't give a shit, and have a breakeven EV and high variance.
Obviously, I would be a dumbass if I said microstakes were "hard", being a NL400 reg. But I'm pretty sure at any given time there are plenty of harder micro tables than tables 10 times the stakes. So basically, through writing this blog, I've found out that I actually pity the microstake player, as they are the ones with the breakeven EV and thus complain about their "downswing".
The way to our hearts is not through bitching and posting bad beats in blogs and hands. The one exception would be Nighto11, who is so fucking annoying and helpless with his bitching that you can't help but try to help him. Same goes for NewbSaibot - there's a reason why they're where they are. Same goes for Wobbly, who didn't bitch, worked his ass off, and now laughs at my "brag posts" of 5k months.
Ask real questions and stay honest about your abilities. Be willing to invest in yourself to become better. Ok that's it.
Can't complain about 2010. The following is in play-money:
Cash: 39000 incl. rakeback (290k hands played)
Only really worked hard 3 months of the year and earned what I deserved. Will outline my goals in the bottom section but definitely going to increase volume. Perhaps I can grow up and be like Wobbly...
No graph as I lost my database a few times.
Tourney: 21500
Had a lot of really close but not there. These are really frustrating (especially for my personality) but I have to force myself to play them. Missed them for a few weeks but will get back on the horse soon.
Played a negligible amount of live cash - was able to breakeven on travel expenses so that is a victory.
So we have 6 stacks of high society. My goal was 100k, but that was simply a random number thrown out probably on an upswing. Going to be more specific this year.
Goals (wealth, health, relationships)
Wealth (Poker):
I think throwing out a monetary goal can be helpful for some but isn't for me. Instead, this:
- Participate in tourney grind 4 times a month (barring obvious circumstances)
- Play close to as much as I did in Oct./Nov. (my two biggest months because I had the biggest volume)
- Play at least 2 large live tournaments this year (should be fun)
If I religiously follow the above two, I am sure I will have no problems achieving results to brag about.
Health:
Still the heaviest I have ever been in my life weighing in at 82kg. I haven't done the tourney grind because I am not confident I can maintain peak mental ability for 10-11 hours. The biggest change I can make is in diet. Perhaps the best thing I can do is find a badminton sparring partner who I can play with multiple times a week. Or actually try P90X.
- get back to 70kg
- please get into some consistent exercise regime with friends (see relationships)
- I feel reluctant to write about controlling what I eat, as these are supposedly the years to "pig out", but: have slightly better control with eating choices. If that only means drinking 10 less milkshakes this year, well, meh.
Relationships:
You become the people you spend time with. If you hang out with nits without ambition then you'll be just that. Spend too much time on liquidpoker and you become an asshole (I kid...don't ban me!) I'm sure I have a different mindset if I hung out with Loco and probably would have made more last year if I roomed with Neilly (or would I?)
Well, the only golden nugget here is being in a relationship = having no friends. Hope I can improve this year... :o

This month was rough but still much better than my average month this year. I worked really hard but burned out the last week and started to play badly. I spewed and ended up losing a lot but I learned a great deal from it (poker-wise). Further, it just confirmed that I still need to deal with some mental issues that cause tilt.
Also, another month of "close but not quite" in donkaments.
I learned a ton this month. I still have a lot to learn both poker-wise and in tilt-control / strength of character. I want to keep up the heavy grinding regime until the end of the year but will certainly allot for days off if required. Going to do some volunteer work at a local school for the disabled and promised a 2-day trip with the gf.
As standard with my blogs, would really recommend this badminton game:
They are the two best players in the world by a wide margin and it is mindblowing how they continue to step up their game.
My hud covers a lot of the table and as such, I have probably lost hundreds of dollars failing to see if someone is in the hand or not.
Classic things like the c-bet into one...whoops two people and minreraising a ninja preflop raiser.
Therefore, I'm hoping to at least mod my FT cardbacks (make them preferably a bright gay rainbow). Has anybody else done this and can share what they use?
Girlfriend and I made a commercial for a contest by this Sushi restaurant chain in Taiwan called Sushi Express. In order to make the top 20, we need votes and so I come to you.
It's only 30 seconds and is pretty funny so do check it out:
Just made a 80 euro misclick with their "pop up" on action software. It's driving me fucking insane. I am used to being able to type my notes in completion and then go to the action at the new table but as I was typing 80 -> enter somewhere else I was snapped there and overbet shoved into some sick calling station who had Christmas come early.
The hand, for reference:

It seems my only options are:
1. ACTIVATE Popup table whenever user action is required. Get fucked everytime typing notes, doing other things, etc.
2. DEACTIVATE Pop up table. Constantly time out when in other hands.
Does "single click table activation" have anything to do with this? How do you SNEs deal with it?!?!??!
Very very close and yet so far. My MTT game has really improved but there are some situations that I would love to discuss with solid players. I will post some hands but if anybody wants to talk theory/mindset in certain spots please feel free to PM me.
This month, thanks to scammy FTP black card marketing I played my most ever:
However, it really showed and I had one of my most successful months:
There is the "Macau Poker Cup" coming up in two weeks, and I am really on the fence about going. I'm sure the tournament is going to be very +ev, but I would be paying the buyin in full (2.3k) as well as hotel / flight / opportunity cost of grinding. I would also be playing other events of course so we're looking at risking 4-5k. Really have to put some thought into it.
