those who suck @ poker plz watch the coaching tree repeatedly and you will be good.
LOL pokerz <3
wow 6max
Sliggy, Mar 04 2009
I'd always heard 6max was better. Just never tried it until today (finally got around to exploiting DeucesCracked for their free subscription and downloaded a shitload of videos, mostly 6max, this is too long for brackets).
WOW! It's so much more fun! My strategical understanding of the game is put to much better use than just playing face up + more hands per hour + way more fish.
Anyone still on FR, CONVERT!
More Vague Help?

Hello all. Couple more concepts I'd like a few (very) general answers too.
Polarized Range: As far as I understand this means that your opponent either has the total nuts or complete air. This means that your question of whether or not to call with TPTK on a flush / paired board is basically a matter of figuring out whether your opponent has the absolute nuts (quads or fullhouse) or absolutely nothing (bottom pair / busted draw).
1. When do you define an opponent's range as polarized?
2. What factors aid in deciding if he has the nuts or air?
Isolation: This is basically the art of entering a pot with position by raising in LP when there have been a couple of limps before you. By doing this you push out the dealer / cutoff (hopefully) and are hoping to enter a pot with initiative and position, thereby increasing your chances to win the hand (especially HU).
1. Who are the best targets for isolating?
2. Why isolate? (I may have answered this already if I'm right but I could be wrong / need some elaboration).
Balancing your range: As far as I know this basically means making sure you don't polarize your own range. Things like flat calling small pocket pairs but also raising or reraising sometimes, calling raises with suited connectors on occasion but also flat calling AQs or AJs, openraising your premiums as well as your speculatives, and shoving over 3bets with AA and KK, but also at times with JTo and KJs type hands.
1. When is your range in need of balancing?
2. What are the cheapest ways to achieve this?
I know being a microstakes player none of this knowledge is essential, but I plan to make poker a pretty serious hobby (ie, trying hard to get very good at it). I've downloaded some DC / CR videos and I just basically want to make sure I'm clear on poker aspects and terminology that I'm not yet needing to use, but know about anyway. This also makes looking at highstakes hands more interesting just for pure entertainment value / interest / i actually understand what myth is talking about :D
MSN Names?
Sliggy, Mar 04 2009
Hi everyone.
So I've been told the best way to improve includes the following:
1. practice
2. subscribe to DC or CR or both
3. read articles
4. post hands
5. chat with other poker players
I got everything goin' except 5. Anybody game to add me on MSN and talk about hands from time to time? :O
OR is there a better place to chat about poker in general etc. so that i don't bug you on msn. (be aware, i will bug you a lot if you add me, but only about poker )
3betting and squeezing?
Sliggy, Mar 03 2009
Just a couple of questions about these concepts.
e.g. 3betting raises preflop. If I'm going to reraise somebody who has raised on the BU or CO, what's a good range to do so, and what stats am I looking for on villain?
Also, what kind of stats / situations am I looking for on initial raisers and callers when I'm looking to squeeze?
I realize both are entirely situational and should be used in moderation. I'm just wondering (generally) what circumstances are good / ideal / +EV for these types of plays?
Couple General Q's
Sliggy, Mar 03 2009
AJs / AQs / AQo Facing A Raise: Call in position? Just fold?
TPTK: At what point do we fold to the obvious set / overpair?
e.g.
AKo in the hole.
Flop comes K / 7 / 2.
I raise, he reraises me. What's my line now? Do we ever stack off with TPTK ?
i fucking quit

Poker at low stakes is supposed to be profitable because of players like this.
Why the fuck am I losing buy-in after buy-in? My last buy-in gained from a play like this was 2 months ago.
Poker as a job...
Sliggy, Mar 01 2009
So I've been playing poker since October, and so far it's been very interesting. I've suffered bad beats, given out worse beats, and overall have had a good time playing and learning the game. I think I've improved a lot fairly quickly, but it's not enough.
I see success graphs, people complaining about making only $270.00 a day (at their worst times), and basically leading a carefree life without rules or regulations. Self employed kids making thousands of dollars on their own roster, playing a game that they enjoy.
A couple of days ago I got just a slight taste of what the 'sick life' could be like. I made about $20.00 an hour on average playing NL10 for like two days straight. I thought this was the norm and I thought to myself 'wow poker is so easy, I'll never have to work." As it turns out, I was just on a sick upswing, and have since worked my way back down to my original deposit.
I don't want to sound pathetic or whiny, but I'm basically entirely jealous of you guys who make your living playing poker online. I envy you, and I want what you have, even on a smaller level. I'm moving out of home at the moment and finding a place to live in Melbourne, and my parents are rich enough to basically provide a lot of my expenses. They say I'll have about 2 months before I try and find a job.
Now that I've seen the poker world, I really don't want a job. Working at the petrol station sucked BEFORE I knew about online poker, but now that I know about it, I'm going to have such a hard time working. I've got 2 months of spare time to make this poker thing work. Basically if I could make $20/$30 an hour I would be completely stoked! It's more than I make at the petrol station.
My question is, if you had 2 months to turn $100.00 into a decent living of $20/$30 dollars an hour, how would you do it? Shit, even $15 an hour would satisfy me for now. I'd have to play more but it's better than working less. My poker knowledge basically comes from this site and PokerStrategy.com (which I suspect has turned me into a huge nit).
Poker as a livelihood started out as a dream which I have seen many people make a reality. I think I have the intelligence and the discipline to make this work, I just don't have the poker knowledge.
Meh, fuck it. This is way tl;dr anyway. Basically a whine post from a guy realizing that he's going to have to work a job instead of play poker. Life's tough. Deal with it shitface.
