Update of sorts
  fira, Apr 10 2009

Haven't blogged in a while so here it is.

Finished March decently (+12k or so) although I was up to +16k at one point near the end of it.

Haven't really played much in April so far but I've been running like a hero in cash and a zero in tourneys. Played a bunch of SCOOP events and random tourneys only to bubbleboy most of them from gay setups.

April cash game stats

As usual AK is fucking mermaids

Not really an update of sorts, just thought it sounded cool.

Lates.

s2 March s2
  fira, Mar 25 2009

Running really good these past 2 weeks or so of March.

Nice heater going, but wish I had the time and patience to play more hands.

1knl and 600nl are practically the same game. I think there might be more fish at 1knl overall, but haven't played enough of it lately to make an accurate assessment.

AK tearing it up hardcore

I guess I'm playing SCs poorly

Practice your multitabling skillz: http://www.1888freeonlinegames.com/submitgames_play.php?id=3676
Level 11 on 2nd try kthx.

How many hands have you played?
  fira, Mar 19 2009

How many hands you have played, total, including online and live and all poker games (HE, omaha, draw, anything that's considered "poker")?

Here are my totals I think...

~8k hands playing with friends in high school in 2004 to 2006
~50k hands playing play money online in 2005 and 2006
~100k hands of nl2-nl50 in 2006
~100k hands of nl50-nl200 in 2006
~100k hands of nl400 in 2006 - 2007
~100k hands of nl1k-nl2k in 2006 - 2007
~50k hands of nl5k in 2007 - 2008
~50k hands of nl400-nl2k in 2008
~50k hands of nl200-nl2k in 2009
~2k hands of non-holdem games overall
~4k hands of live casino cash games
~25k hands of tourney/sng

I think I got it all... adds up to about 650k hands

and you?

Some hands, who is lolzcapaneo?
  fira, Mar 18 2009

I called pf because the UTG raiser is a huge lag retard with stats of like 75/65/1.5 over 300+ hands, and hantae111 is a terrible loose reg. Anyways the flop I wasn't sure whether to raise or just flat. AJTheKing could pretty much have any 2, and hantae111 loves to raise with draws but has trouble folding anything from overpair to a gutshot. Should I have just flatted here? Or even fold...?
+ Show Spoiler +

I think I probably should've raised and got it in on the flop. RJT is somewhat unknown although I could tell he was not very good, preposterous is a pretty laggish but decent reg capable of big bluffs and big calls. On the flop I had RJT on either a draw or a marginal hand, and prep on a pretty large range but mainly on TK-AK. On the turn I gave prep credit for a decent hand, mainly TK-AK still, and RJT on some combo draw like QTh or 76h. Should I have raised flop, and assuming I flatted flop, should I have flatted again on turn?
+ Show Spoiler +

Villain is a very aggressive preflop player but seems smart postflop especially in multiway pots. I'm not sure if he's capable of doing this with just a naked flush draw (pretty sure 6Xh and probably 8Xh are a part of his range but dunno about stuff like A9h or A4h). Since he's very aggro preflop I can safely assume he doesn't have hands like AKh/AQh/AJh and probably not KQh. Push or fold?

Also, who is lolzcapaneo?

I assume from his name he's someone from LP?

March is green!
  fira, Mar 16 2009

So I finally was able to get back into the green for March, although I don't know how long it'll last. I'm currently running at about expected allin EV for all of 2009 which is pretty good by LP standards I guess. Not sure how long this will last. Here's my upside down bell curve of a graph:

My red line is suddenly killing me, I'm not exactly sure why. I used to be break-even in non-showdown but now it's just a consistent drop. I haven't changed my game much if at all, so it is a mystery.

Also in response to those who said I'm overplaying AK and it's not a pf allin hand, I really don't think I'm playing AK that badly. AK is never the hand that initiates my downswings.

March:

2009:

and this isn't me running good with AK, as I said I'm running at expected EV

so to sum it up, time to eat KFC

This is getting lame
  fira, Mar 04 2009

I seem to have come to a BR ceiling. Played a session just now and lost 6bi in about 400 hands. I can't seem to get anywhere, and feel like I might be stuck at 600nl for the rest of my poker career. The showdown hands I get myself into are almost exclusively coinflips, and it seems that I've proven the law of large numbers in flipping and how it's entirely 0 EV. As I've mentioned before in an earlier post, my red line (non-showdown winnings) is always around break-even, so it just comes down to simple addition: 0 + 0 = 0.

Here's my 2009 graph:

I feel like I'm just wasting time sitting at the tables because every time I get a 5 bi upswing it's immediately met by a 5 bi downswing, and it's getting really old. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong because all the showdown hands are basically coinflips. I've asked about the non-showdown line before but the consensus seemed to be that the lines don't really matter. I've been running a bit bad lately but nothing compared to some people on LP with like -10 bi in EV or something.

Here are a bunch of hands that happened in today's session or very recently. It just seems like I'm better off just coinflipping like a degen instead of actually playing the game. Then again I'm down like 8k from organized flips. :/

Not a feb results post
  fira, Mar 02 2009

Ok so heres my overall feb graph and stuffs

a definite and obvious improvement from January but far from what I'd like it to be. I'd love to get in more hands but between schoolwork and sitting on my ass, I can hardly find the time to play daily. Needless to say, this is needless to say as indicated by the graph. At least I met my feb goal--not lose moneys like in Jan. I guess I'm satisfied, given the rather minimal effort I've been putting into internet pokers.

My housemate that I taught to play internet pokers is doing exceptionally well, beyond what I expected of his feeble gambling concept. He started with $7 (courtesy of yours truly) about 3 weeks ago and now he's at over 170. I told him to get HEM or PT3 but he fails to succeed at knowing that such tools are actually rather useful at higher stakes. Ok enough about him.

What is fira doing riding a blog at 4:20 AM, you might ask yourself. Well, I need to be up at 7 AM, and like 2 hours ago I tried to sleep but couldn't, so I got up and decided to ride a poker blog for my greatest fans. I figured the only way I was going to be up in 5 hours was if I stayed up. Plan working accordingly so far.

Ok bye

Random Update
  fira, Feb 23 2009

Finally got a hold of a screwdriver and opened up my computer case. Luckily I was able to recover most of what I needed from my old hard drive. Thank god I didn't have to find and DL those 10 gigs of music. Furthermore, I was able to recover the hands processed by PT! Here's a graph of how Feb's going:

I haven't played much because of the whole computer crisis but I'll try to squeeze in maybe 10k more in this last week. Not much of an update, just glad I could salvage my old hard disk.

Hmmm
  fira, Feb 19 2009

Ok this is going to be a poker post, since I haven't written any lately. I'm gonna talk about my general concerns about my style and what's possibly limiting the rapid growth of my BR. Someone brought up a question in one of my earlier blogs regarding a graph I posted, and I thought it would be worth discussing.

I still haven't recovered my PT3 from my old hard disk yet but if I did, I'd show you guys my 2009 graph (I started seriously playing poker again at the beginning of 2009). Basically my red line ($ won without showdown) is constantly bumping around 0. In a database of about 10k hands, I can expect my red line to go between 2bi to -2bi, but on average it would be zero. My blue line ($ won with showdown) is either really high or really low, depending on how I'm running. Many of these key blue line hands are just near-flips like JJ vs AK pf allin, SFD vs set, big pair vs draw+pair, etc. I feel like my blue line is greatly dictated by luck a lot of the time, especially vs many regs who you just can't fold to a 4bet with AK. I see a lot of graphs and notice that winners have their red line graph as a consistent uphill slope, and their blue line is much like mine. I'm not exactly sure why my red line is always around break-even, but I feel this is one of my bigger leaks that I should work on. I'd much rather see a consistently positive red line than even a steep uphill blue line.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated.
