I dedicated this January to learning masstabling and deciding whether or not I should go for SNE.
I wanted to get like 100k-110k VPPs minimum and have at least positive results if I were to go for SNE.
Unfortunately, the results were not satisfying at all. I really had big trouble playing more than 12 tables and even more than 9 was quite difficult.
After like 3 weeks of playing 15-18 tables and steadily loosing, I lost the believe that it will just turn and decided to just go back to playing 6-9 tables, mostly deep games (oppossed to mostly shalow tables when masstabling).
That resulted in making less VPPs than I wanted to and the results didnt get much better either. Partly because of running pretty poorly during the whole month and partly because clearly I need to get back to my A game.
In numbers, I lost $16.3k, ev-wise I lost $4.7k, which is like my 2nd worst month ever or so. At least I played 132k hands and made 91.7k VPPs, which translates to $5.1k in rakeback purely from FPPs (not counting stellar rewards and milestones), so I can comfort myself saying that ev-wise and after rakeback I made some pocket change
Anyway, as of now chasing SNE is not a priority. In February I will try to get back to my A game by playing mostly 5-9 40-100bb tables at midstakes (2/4-5/10). I still hope to make some 60k VPPs or so, so that I could still possibly jump back to the SNE race later, but like I said, its not a priority atm. Getting back the winning mindset is.

Interesting start to the new year. I indulged in a lot of new poker theories after my '10 blowout where I finally gave up professional poker. Now I just play for lulz, which has been working out much better in the tilt department. It basically comes down to a lack of care, which interestingly enough is an ideal poker mindset to be in. If I make it I make it, if I dont I dont. Had a couple of humorous busto challenges trying to run up zero dollar bankrolls, but ended in failure due to poor BRM. So on with the results:
A little messy, but to be expected from an amateur trying to play LAG. Every one of those spikes was a learning moment lol, and I feel I soaked in a lot of good material about what works and what doesnt at the micros. The spikes were self-induced due to adopting a half-stack strategy whereby I'm basically pot committed after any 3bet or flop action, but as time went on I was able to curtail which hands I should plan on committing with before I get there. Eventually some tilt did get to me and I bled like crazy around hand 10k or so I guess. But because I take lots of silly 1 BI shots and shit, the following graph more accurately represents my forward play style at any given limit.
And finally my overall stats. I can live with that. Especially with the adjustments I'll be making. I went back and forth between playing half-stack and full stacked, and at the moment I still prefer half stack or less at micro stakes, just to limit the swings when I get it allin. I noticed when I moved up to NL100 I got ran over trying to play this loose with 50BB's, and before I realized it I was moving back down. I'm pretty sure regs dont give much respect to half stackers and immediately targeted me as a fish. I kept getting 3bet and squeezed without really knowing what to do. Because deeper stack requires a more intelligent level of play, I think sitting full stacked at the higher games will be optimal as it allows me to play more postflop without regs just jamming KQ high or something and making me fold. Since I'm really happy with my non-showdown results I think I can possibly do well in this regard.
My main goal this month is to focus less on the value of my current bankroll and more on just being patient and letting it grow. I get too greedy and want to add a few digits every few days, telling myself I can suffer a 1 BI shot at the next level if it lets me get out of my current one, but it gets pretty annoying having to drop so quickly when you dont immediately run well after moving up.
I accomplished the goal of putting in some serious volume this month, at least from my standards. I made a couple hundred which isn't bad for only being at NL 10. I successfully managed to make a successful adaptation to NL 25 in my 3rd shot. Now I am at a comfortable roll and feel really good about playing the stake. Not scared anymore by the amount of money involved. Here is the graph for my full ring results for the month. I also took $25 that was sitting on poker stars and tried out some NL 50 heads up by buying in for 20bb to fuck around. Didn't go busto (although I did catch a runner runner flush to save my roll) so I guess thats a good thing. Here's my HU results for the month.
Goals for February
- Put in around the same amount of volume. Ideally above 35000 hands.
- Get roll up to 1K
- Start mixing up NL 50 with NL 25 once I get an established roll.

This January has been a pretty intense month for me pokerwise. To start things off, I ended up taking down the 2010 PTR micro omaha POY. Huge confidence booster, scored a free year of PTR gold, and received a coaching contract with DragTheBar. This win meant a lot to me because it solidifies that I have accomplished something with poker (although I attribute the 100% of the win to campaigning skills). Still, it gave me the confidence and belief that I can go so much farther than I am.
Toward the end of last year, I was thinking about going Supernova for 2011. After much contemplation about what I actually wanted to gain out of poker this year, I decided not to go for SN and instead moved back to FTP and to get a black card (unfortunately this meant that my free PTR gold became virtually useless). As of today, I'm ironman for the month of January and on pace to get black card by the end of February.
Another motivating factor for me will be the prop bet I made with one of my friends. He laid me 1.8 to 1 odds, $540:$300 on first person to make 15k or highest earner by August31.

Actually ran a bit bad towards the middle of the month. Was like 1.1k downswing and 800 below EV or something but kind of standard PLO. Also messed around a bit @ badugi up to 1/2 and lost like $50.
In the process of getting a fake ID as well. I'm not waiting 1 3/4 years to turn 21. Want to have the option of going to play live poker and a lot of my older friends are planning trips to Vegas and shit so I wanna get in.
Pretty clear that I haven't developed as a player the last year, while competition has become tougher. But still... ran pretty good at nl50 - couple of buyins above EV while running 10 buyins below EV on NL100, and that of course makes a bit of difference. But I would be lying to myself if I said that's the reason. It's pretty clear I have several leaks that needs to be fixed. Thinking about getting a Bluefirepoker membership or something.
Yeye, end rant. Still playing at FTP, and I payed fucking 3,4k in rake, while only getting 814 in RB (300 was a bonus too...) Makes me wonder why I abandoned my rakeback deal at iPoker. Oh well - got Iron Man thing, and got 50k points (and within the next two weeks I should have my Black Card!!)
Well January was pretty good to me.luckboxed some mtts and did alright in 180s i guess. Got pretty lazy for 2nd half of the month. Only made about 17k vpps for the month.25k is pace for 300k vpps which I'm probably gonna be shooting for. Intended to shoot for 200k but that should be pretty easy if i put in any type of volume
Also started 5nl midway through this month. I've always wanted to learn cash and I felt like my post flop game was full of 928232109 holes. I never had the discipline to build a roll before at the micros and learn. I probably still don't have the discipline to do both but I don't need to worry about the roll part anymore. So I decided to try to plug some of those holes by learning cash and hopefully working my way up to midstakes. Gonna be tough since I still plan on playing sngs/mtts so we shall see how that works out. Right now my goal is about 25k hands/month.
So this guy wants to stake me for a live game. He would give me 2 buyins for the limit id be playing. How does staking like this work, after the session how would we split profits. Btw this is a stake for one session, around 10-12 hours

I really just need to bee more focused and play. The more I play the more I'm going to win. I need to focus up and make volume happen. I should have ALOT of weeks that I get 200 games played and I've yet to do it. I just need to focus up and get volume in period.
Also going to get in shape. Slowly been working on getting out more. The getting a dog is helping, I'm really motivated to take him on walks and go play in the park and stuff. The constant snow that northern MO is getting is however hindering progress. Meh, Let's go February!
Beginning of the month I was feeling kind of meh, but I came into the new year with a resolution to wake up at 10AM at least every weekday. I succeeded at the beginning, struggled a little bit with it when I got kind of upset about running so bad at 1/2 in the early-middle of the month, but I pulled it together and I've been getting up right about 10am for about 80% of this month. I'm proud of myself overall, as this sleeping thing is something I've had trouble with since I was a young kid. I'm going to continue the 10AM shiznat.
About two weeks ago I decided to get back into Magic The Gathering. I played it like 12 years ago in middle school but hadn't touched it since. Its damn fun! And its a great way to meet new people and be social. If I keep enjoying it I am going to plunk down some cash and try to become an MTG tournament player on the side haha.
Oh well.. at least it looks a lot better in BBs LOL!

I wish I could of had an awesome month (ie if I didn't play nl200 at all...) and 1/2 was quite soul crushing at times, but I'm feeling better and my roll is surprisingly healthy. Some NL100 professional got angry when I 3bet him today and said, 'you taking another nl100 shot? , You should turn down the aggression', then he folded obv. I don't even 3bet that much..
Being somewhat aware of the Poker universe, I've always had a knack for poker yet. . never really initiated myself to learn more than what I currently know about it.
Well actually to be honest I was more occupied with BW and gaming and whatnot so that took up most of my time rather then using that time to learn more about poker.
So now, bored of gaming in general (yes even though SC2 is out, I have no interest whatsoever. I enjoy spectating rather then actually playing it now. My interests and views have shifted dramatically over the past year.
So now I've decided to finally stop wasting my time with useless activities and poker up my life a little. Yes I am aware you can lose more then you win but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
Tonight on this lovely Sunday evening marks my beginnings in Poker. Currently I'm just playing [Play Money] tables while reading up on basic strategies and hands, news within the PS world and other related websites.
Since most members on this forum are from TL (as am I) I'm hoping people around here can jumpstart me and help me out with tips and tricks I should keep in mind/learn?

Hey LP.net, I am not very active anymore, but I still lurk around here from time to time, though I do not play any more poker. Last years shot went bad, I could not even beat NL25 anymore (but I did not play a big sample, I think I should still be able to crush it, but that is not the point here), so I completely quit poker and try to get a university degree... I am almost there, already turned in my thesis, will have 3 more exams in February and if everything goes well I am will be a Bachelor of Science in 4 weeks...
So this is last night story, it's a bit long, but maybe you will enjoy the read, it's not about sluts though.
At the moment I am doing a internship in Shanghai/China and last night me and some friends at first, one friend later went clubbing. I get a wage from my company which is very good for Chinese standards, but drinking, clubbing and girls take lots of cash away, I took my last money (about $50) and went out that night. My Chinese account was empty with that and I can not take credit off it.
My friend lives near my apartment, but not exactly in the neighborhood, but we wanted to take a taxi together back after having drunk all night long. At that point, I had already spend most of my money, I had about $8 left, enough to split the bill for the cab home. Anyway, my friend got to know some ho and he took a taxi for himself. He wanted to make sure he could start with the foreplay already. He knew about my situation, so he gave me a 100 RMB note (about $15),allowing me to take a cab, too.
Somehow because of my retardation, I lost that note in the club. Now that was bad, but I thought I would be able to get some cash from the ATM from my European account, that ATM is near my apartment. I got into the taxi and told the driver where to go. Shanghai is really huge, so it took like forever, and in the end the bill was at like $12 or $13. I told him that I need to withdraw cash (I do not speak Chinese, so I showed him my Cash Card) and went to the ATM, but it's fucking China, and nothing is working as it should, no cash for me after several tries.
Basically, I am fucked, it's 4 o'clock in the morning, I am drunk as hell and I am not able to pay my cab driver, so what the fuck do I do? I do not feel like cheating my poor driver and I know that $13 can be a lot to simple employees in China, so I went back to the cab, gave him my last $8 and said "Sorry, but I did not get any cash" what he probably did not understand as Chinese taxi drivers speak English very poorly, like most Chinese people. Then I took a run into the darkness... Holy shit, screaming wheels and and a pissed off taxi driver ready to run me over, he was really fast coming after me with his taxi although I started my run for my life in the opposite direction as he was standing. He was shouting hellish swears at me. My adrenaline started pumping.
Now you have to know that Chinese people are really friendly towards "Lao wai" or westerners AS LONG as they can extract money from you. I am convinced that they can become very unfriendly and unpleasant when they realize that you cannot be their cashcow anymore or even owe them money, like I did in that moment. For sure I did not want to find out middle in the night in some dark road. I did not know whether he was calling the police or colleagues or whatever, but I thought it is a bad idea to get caught.
Another thing to take into consideration is the architecture of Chinese streets. You cannot simply vanish into the night, because there are fences and walls everywhere, you are forced to stay on the streets and if you want to enter your flat (they are in compounds most of the time, which can only be entered through gates. And these gates are protected by watchmen 24/7. I did not want my new nemesis to know which compound I live in and running by the watchmen in the night would not be a good idea either, so I took another direction. He was still behind me, I could hear his taxi. I took several 180 turns to get rid of him. Luckily there was a small passage at some point which I entered. The taxi driver did not get off his taxi, he was an old fatty anyway, I knew I could outrun him and he did probably know it, too.
I started feeling safe for the moment but I did not know if he gave up at that point (I mean i owed him like $5) or he would try to get a manhunt on me, so I hid like for several minutes and felt like James "underground" Bond. Like a ninja-night-warrior I took peeks around corners to see where he was and what he was doing, sneaking silently around the buildings, even creeping on the ground to not get spotted by him or alerted colleagues/watchmen/w/e. My next concern was whether the driver would inform the watchmen around to look out for a young "yang guizi" that ripped him off. I took a walk around the block, always hiding in the bushes if a taxi would run by and got into my compound from the back side, that guard did sleep, in the end I was safe finally.
Now I have to watch out in the future when I take a cab here :-/

Pretty meh week. Glad what felt like a bad week ended pretty even. Played mostly 6's with a mix of some 12's. Feel like I ran pretty bad, couldn't get a win the second half of the week. This hand seems to sum up my FT's for the week

On the bright side, alot more volume than last week which is good. Overcame alot of RL frustration and didn't tilt tooo bad at the tables. Going to get a good session in tomorrow and I'll throw out the month long chart, should be fun.
On a side note. Whats with like, half of the blogs being pictures of girls. I thought there was an epic boobs thread for that kinda stuff. Just sayin....
