God I hate live poker
  Carthac, Jul 05 2010

Is there any efficient way to play live poker small stakes without relying on luck?

Sitting at the table, 1-2NL game, been folding mostly and observing people around me. I get A-Q suited in the cutoff. I raise 3 limpers to 8x the bb (16 dollars), trying to isolate the best I can. Behind him I get 2 callers, and the original 3 limpers call. 6 players at a 9 player table seeing the flop at the price of 8 big blinds.....

Anyways, flop comes Q-3-4 rainbow. It gets checked to me and I bet a little over half pot. 3 people call, 2 fold. 4 people going to the turn in a monstrous pot. Turn brings an 8. First limper shoves, and gets called. I figure my A-Q has to be no good and fold it. Last guy calls behind me

Guy shows 3-8 OF DIAMONDS. The guy that called him shows POCKET FUCKING 10'S and says "I didnt think ya had it so I called." Last guy called the huge pot with 5-6 offsuit. Turn brings a blank, and 3-8 takes it down....

I was utterly stunned by what I had seen, and was left thinking, with the amount of hands these people are willing to take to showdown over huge bets no matter what the bet size, pot odds, implied odds, etc., is there an efficient way to play against these types of people, especially when there are many of them at the table?

Seems like the big hands you do get really don't have that much equity if you have to play against more than 3 players every flop : /

Bad beat but jesus christ I suck lately.....(refer to hand above, even if he is hyper aggro, still completely butchered)

Past 3-4 weeks have literally been suckout and cooler hell for me. It has affected my play like crazy. I have to keep telling myself to stop betting to protect and bet for value at the stakes I play at (NL25 btw). However, it seems I either get no value from my hands or they are drawn out on in some way or cooler'd like the hand above.

Game confidence is crushed. I keep playing to try to break even and go up in rakeback, but I am not even able to do that. Been studying videos off of deucescracked and brushing up on fundamentals with a few 2+2 threads and the Easygame e-book I have. I generally feel my play is okay as of late, but I can't seem to pull together a winning session.

Think it is time to take a break from poker, so when SC2 comes back, maybe ill just drop poker for a week or 2. If anyone is an upcoming player in the lower leagues (below platinum or w/e the highest league is) and wants a little bit of help from a big nerd who has played starcraft for too long, PM me here and I would be willing to help you out.

P.S. Beta comes back thursday I believe, OMGBONER. Oh ya, below gif is guaranteed to put a smile on your face :D
