Heyyy everyone hope you've all had a great few weeks and welcome back to another Music You Should Hear Volume 4

This one is a little shorter because I wanted some songs from other users that they haven't heard anywhere else that is relatively new and unheard of.

edit: also on some exciting news Ben Burnley of Breaking Benjamin has won his court case against two former band members and will be getting back into the studio hopefully soon. FUUUUUUUCK YEAHHHHHH

April by AndrewSong, May 01

Hi guys, last time I tried to update my blog I wrote a long hand history review of hu4roll session after a huge victory. I accidently deleted before finishing and I figured I'd try it again the next day. Well I got crushed by the same guy for all my winnings plus more so I got turned off from doing it. Since I started playing poker again I've been having tough time putting in consistent volumes. I think it had partly to do with the big swings I was having due to playing like shit and my loss of heart to fight through it. Since February, I moved down in stakes and stopped playing 10/20+ altogether. This instantly ended the swings since competition was much softer and I was able to sit 10+ tables no problem. However, it also made the game less interesting since I wasn't getting adrenaline from winning big pots or bluffing. Last month, I had a little bet with kevin(handbanana21) to motivate us(or me) to put in hands for April. The bet was for his 170k hands vs my 33k. I layed him 3-1 odds on his 1k. I knew I'm giving him premium odds but since I knew he won't be able to play for duration of the month from his fam visiting, i figured its fair

There's about 5k hands missing with -2k in loss. If I can make 25k+/month playing midstakes, i wouldn't mind passing hsnl for the year. Ultimately, I would like to be able to get good at PLO and transition over by end of this year but I feel like I'm right at that point where I have a lot to argue against.

Also, I'm taking a short vacation to Paris this weekend. Gonna be doin all the tourist stuff like Eiffel Tower, Louvre and the cathedral of Notre-Dam. If you guys already have been to Paris, and have any recommendations or things to avoid, let me know!

April/upswing by MARSHALL28, May 01

April definitely went much better than March. I didn't play that much, only got in around 40 hours and got in about 10-12k hands. Finished up ~+$45k or so. NL has been kinda boring for me lately and not particularly challenging so I signed up for runitonce and have been studying a bunch of PLO lately. I'm still not very good at it but I need to be more intellectually stimulated by the games I'm playing otherwise it just gets too boring for me and leads to burnout. It's definitely fun to be learning about all the different types of spots though.

Here's a few interesting hands I played last month...

April by ToT)MidiaN(, May 01

April was by far the lowest volume month of the year so far. Part of the reason for this is that I went to Korea on the 2nd and got back on the 10th, so I was already a third of the month down with 0 volume. To make matters worse I didn't make up for that lack of volume in the remaining 2/3rds of the month. Here are a few pics from the Korea trip:

I am considering going back some time between June and August depending on how life goes in my home town to live for a year. It's prob a coinflip whether I will or won't at this point. Seoul is the nuts, I just wish I could take my house and friends and dump them all in Gang Nam.

Poker results were pretty good when I actually played. I felt a bit rusty when I got back from Korea and struggled at first, hitting some mini downswing, but since then I started crushing when I played and won 16 out of 18 sessions played. Still, given the pathetic volume I obviously didn't win too much.

Cash games:

Tournaments:
http://i.imgur.com/Y5coGsu.jpg

Results:
VPPs: 16,447.36
Cash: +$4,632.16
MTTs: -$734.78
Overall: +$3,897.38 (Not including VPPs and bonuses)

I think I need to do some work on my tournament game, especially with SCOOP coming up. I'm already down $5k+ this year in MTTs, which is naturally easy to do given the variance with huge fields, but I just don't feel too confident in my short stacked play in general, and since it's useful to be good at short stacked play in cash given the state of games in 2013 I intend to spend some time next month working on improving my short stacked play and MTT game. Yearly VPP goal has to be set at 500k VPPs now considering the volume I've managed in March and April, but I've somehow even fallen behind that pace by now. I can't see myself catching up much in the next month as I have a lot more social plans etc. Going to Korea would almost certainly be good for my grind, or if I stay here, when the weather gets worse I'll start grinding a lot more also. 500k VPPs is still plausible, but I don't want to fall too far behind during the decent weather we're finally getting or it will soon become a 300k VPP year of disappointment.

our purpose by spets1, May 01

Release of CO2 into atmosphere.

CO2 is food for plants. Plants is food for everything else. In order to have a sustainable earth - what we have now, there has to be a constant supply of CO2.
Read up on Carbon cycle. Carbon is stored underground - in biomass, organic matter in sediments, and in carbonate rocks like limestone. It's stored as oil.

The only way it gets out now is volcanoes, cracks in earth’s crust etc. This is clearly not sustainable.

So the Earth has come up with a solution. It evolved a social mammal - Human.
Humans started to dig up and slowly, sustainably release carbon back into atmosphere. This way plants have food to grow.

If not for us - carbon gets stored under ground. All plants have no food to grow. Carbon gets eaten up and fucks up the carbon cycle (CO2 is also greenhouse gas that keeps earth warm when sun's not shining).

Or worse, all that carbon gets stored under earths crust as fuel. We get hit by a meteorite, or have a massive supervolcano, or a tectonic plate movement and everything blows up in one huge explosion.
We get hit by smoke storms and go into ice age.

Thus the earth has evolved our eyes to like these babes so we keep procreating and defuse earth in process.

Hemlock Grove by NewbSaibot, April 30

Holy shit, anybody catch this yet? It's another original series by Netflix. Man this show has been hitting homeruns since the very first episode. I gotta hand it to Netflix, they know wtf they're doing. All you investors out there should be buying up stock. They're basically HBO without all the bullshit now. They are their own network, so they can produce whatever they want, and air it however they want. I really really reeaaaalllly applaud their new "all episodes at once" concept. The only reason society has to watch their favorite tv series across the span of half a fucking year is because the cable networks make them, so that people feel obliged to continue paying for their shitty overpriced tv packages week after week. Netflix took a gamble and said "maybe people will like our material so much, that we can just release the entire fucking show, all 20 episodes at once, and they'll stick around for the next installment". IT FUCKING WORKS. 8 bucks a month to get shows like House of Cards and now Hemlock Grove? With more new series on the way? Hell yes! Without the shackles of comcast/direcTV on their ass they're basically everything HBO wishes they were. And shame on HBO for not having the balls to challenge the networks, because netflix now beats them in subscriber base, and doesnt have to share any of the profits. These last 2 shows are just as good as anything HBO has come out with save for Game of Thrones, and I'm sure in due time Netflix will best them in that category as well.

Anyway Hemlock Grove reminds me a lot of True Blood. Set in a fictional reality where supernaturalism is considered standard, except without all the goofy fuckin retarded characters. I mean I like True Blood and all, but they have a few cheeseballs in there for yucks. Hemlock is all serious all the time. Love the new actors too, good to bring some fresh faces to the game. Everyone is doing a great job, superb acting, great story, just all around solid show. Make sure to watch Episode 2 to see the sickest werewolf transformation in history.

THINGS TO DO IN LA by mnj, April 30

Hey I'll be coming to LA later this month. Not sure yet for how long. Long story short, my gf made travel plans with her mother through some travel agency, but basically they reneged on their services/packages.

WHAT A FUCKING JOKE. Anyway

Basically we'll be going to LA with no plan. Was hoping you guys could recommend some things to do nearby LA.

Her parents are pretty conservative, so i think they will enjoy pretty damn touristy things.

Ok, let's eat it. by DustySwedeDude, April 29

Got a few things I wanted to talk about.

Gold got absolutely smashed a few weeks back. Too many theories about why so I won't even go there. I find some of the conspiracy nuts equally ridiculous as the guys who believes that gold just decided to suddenly drop like 10% over a few days for no reason after being a somewhat stable store of value for 5k+ years. I think it's probably just a little bit of wall street 2 going on, everything is leveraged to hell which makes really strange things happen. I think that a bunch of big western banks or other entities plays gold both long and short in an attempt to just smash causal traders and abuse sell-/buy-stops a fair bit too. So far it seems that the only thing that happened was that the demand for physical gold went trough the roof and unless the demand let's off again as prices goes back to "normal" this drop might've been a very good thing for gold. I'm fairly sure it will though, at least for a while, and the gold chart and such looks fairly bad so I think it'll take a while before we have a decent rally. Worst case scenario we'll see another leg down before anything good happens.

Anyway, since I've been living with my girlfriend for about two years I've learned never to waste a good discounts so I put some more money into metal streaming companies (this is not investing advice, blablabla) and bought some silver and gold coins. The delivery on the gold is fairly late, go figure. It's about two weeks now which is somewhat impressive considering the silver was sent in a day or two. Apparently a lot of things are sold out and it's a shortage of certain kinds of coins and investment bars in various places around the world.

The good news is that a silver dollar seems to be the right size, shape and weight to serve as a chip protector. Also, it makes a very distinct "clink" when you flip it in the air which is cool.

As far as poker goes my PLO winrate is ridiculous. I'm not playing enough to I'm crushing hard the few hands I do play. Running way above ev for the most part and not playing that many tables is nice. Running good at 10/20 PLO HU also helps, heh.

Trying to get Longple to tag along to Unibet Open in Portugal in a month or so with the plan of swapping like 10%, bust early day one and still get 10% of the first prize money. That'd be nice.

Tournaments has been going well. I min cashed in a bunch of high buy in tournaments this weekend and I've had a bunch of medium sized scores the last few weeks. Still down in tournaments lifetime (at least I think so, not really keeping tabs) but the last few months I've won a few K each month playing most of the big Sundays. Been watching a lot of runitonce content for MTT and PLO and it has helped out with both games. Thinking of playing a bunch of Scoop events, probably anything I know how to play that runs on Sundays and the big PLO/5cPLO/croucewhatever-stuff.

If anyone wants to buy action I'll probably be selling a bit at the following events assuming I play them:

High: $2,100 Pot Limit Omaha Heads-Up
High: $1,050 Pot Limit 5-Card Omaha Six-Max Rebuy - (not sure how to sell action in a rebuy, might skip selling for this one to get rid of the headache)
High: $1,050 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max, Turbo, Rebuy - (not sure how to sell action in a rebuy, might skip selling for this one to get rid of the headache)
High: $1,050 Mixed No Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Omaha - (stupid crap is running when I want to go to BJJ-class, so not sure if I'll play it)
High: $1,050 Pot Limit Courchevel 1 Rebuy, 1 Add-on Turbo - I love that game, I played a ton of it 5/10 HU while people still played it
High: $2,100 Pot Limit Omaha Turbo, Zoom - This one looks like something I'd be good at.
High: $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max - Looks like great fun, probably fairly crappy value but it's scoop and very few people in the poker population knows how to play PLO well so if the field is big enough it might be worth it.

I'll possibly sell action in whatever high NL they run on Sundays too, but unless the fields in the "high" ones are really soft I'll just skip those I think. Saving like 10k in buyins would reduce variance a fair bit, heh.

Full disclosure:

1. Only time I ever sold action in online tournaments before I missed an event and thereby almost scammed Nolan out of 50 USD or something like that. It was a mistake (I forgot one of the tournaments) and I felt bad about it forever. Fairly sure most people consider me a good guy anyway.
2. I'm not in any way, shape or form sure that I'm a favourite in these. I'm fairly sure I'd be in the Courchevel and I would guess I am in most of the other's. Unsure about the 5.2k PLO-even, it depends a lot on how many randoms satellites in. However, I'm sure enough of myself that I'll play at least a couple of them regardless if anyone wants any piece of me.
3. Not gonna sell action to random. Only to people I know or who is respected on this site/vouched for by someone I know and trust.
4. Will send screenshot of my HEM2-database to anyone who passes point 3. and is interested. The PLO-cash stats are impressive, the MTT stats are not.
5. Unless demand is ridiculous I'll just sell 1:1 or swap % straight up I think. When I have a big db of me beating both MTT's and cash games I'll start selling at a premium, heh.

Also, I may or may not be online much the next few days so I might take a while to get back to anyone who tries to contact me. Facebook is probably the easiest way to get hold of me about anything that can't wait 3-4 days unless you have my phone number or e-mail.

Year thus far by Fayth, April 28

I've been playing alright in my humble opinion so far even though I could have tilted less I suppose, I didn't put in as many hands as I initially planned to but still satisfied with the results. I played some zoom 1/2 and 2/5 this month when I didn't have any action HU... usually 2 tabling.. but it's pretty much impossible to sustain the same winrate as HU, and I like a pretty winrate xD. HU is still anything from 0.5/1 to 3/6

Here's april: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/cu9bm.jpg
in big blinds it says I'm up 10494bb, so 105 buy ins, like good ol times, except action comes at lower stakes =(

The year so far: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/t/vrg1f.jpg

that's about 300 buy ins... so combined with live cash/tourneys I'm prob up about 85k on the year, well ahead of pace on my goal

I'm probably done for the month since I'm leaving on tuesday for montreal to play WPT, so going to spend some quality time with children and fiance tomorrow

GL everybody

Would you read it? by Minsk, April 28

Heres first few pages of a very rough draft of a book ive been meaning to write

Codex of Life
Introduction –

Hello, this book was written for the population. This content serves the purpose of moving your being closer to GTO/God/Equilibrium/Infinity/Truth, which benefits me. This book was written for myself, to enhance my existence through the process of “energetic gravity.”
[described later]

Its very important to understand before reading that this book does not refute any beliefs, ideologies, patterns, perceptions of the reader. At the same time anyone reading this with a mind that isn’t empty will not be able to grasp whatever is contained within, as they are separate realities.

What is Reality?
We all live in same universe, there is only one truth. When asked to define that we run into infinite subjective interpretations, each being subjective realities. Meaning that while we are all living in the same external universe, we are all actually living in separate internal realities and separate universes.

This paradox occurs because our internal self, the self-image, is constantly in the process of making and refining itself. This process begins with emptieness, continues into growth, solidifies into the self, and continues into death.

Death is the consequence for a solidified internal reality; meaning that as we fill ourselves internally, eventually we become full our internal energy solidifies, the external reality continues flowing, time passes and eventually the internal reality becomes distant enough from the external truth. This becomes the point of dying. Illustrated in the spiral image below.
