So, this is October for me, and I have a lot of questions. Note that I'm playing 100% 5NL right now.

First of all, this is the first time I've gotten really disciplined about playing and winning. About half-way through the month, maybe right at 800 hands played this month or so, I invested in PT3 and WOW, do I notice a difference in my winrate. Just seeing stats like that, paying more attention to tables, and using filters to find some leaks in my game has really changed alot.

As you can see I'm still in the negative for the month but as I almost broke even, I got really excited. I don't think this has been an upswing since the 900th hand played or so, and I certainly hope it's not all attributable to variance, cause I can definitely see my play improving, and I feel like I can definitely continue this rate.

I have some questions though. First, about this graph; obviously, amount won is a very easy line. But what exactly do my all-in EV, showdown and nonshowdown winnings tell me about my level of play? The showdown winnings line says to me that I'm getting my money in bad too often on the river. So, I really tightened up that aspect of my play. I stopped rationalizing that hero call, stopped imagining that everyone who bets the river against my TPTK must be bluffing. That really upped my winrate.

I have no idea what the all-in EV line says about my play. If it says anything at all. I've seen debate that it's not a good indicator of variance or 'running bad'. Can anyone explain to me the math behind it and how it relates? I've done a lot of reading here and on 2p2 and I still don't quite understand it.

Secondly, when I play 5NL, or .02/.05, I always buy in for $5, even though the max is 12.50. Why is there such a huge bb cap on these tables, and am I stunting myself by buying in for only 5? I guess I'm just a creature of habit and am accustomed to buying in for 100bb...

My last question is about PS rakeback and VPP stuff. I got my first 750 vpp $10 bonus today, yay free moneys. But obviously I'm more interested in the serious rakeback stuff. Playing 5nl, what kind of volume is really required to get any decent form of rakeback? Should I be moving to a different site if I can't play 40k hands a month?

So I made an account on ftp awhile ago, didn't play too much.
Made a new one recently when i wanted to play more, and is the account i went up to 1k with.
when i tried to withdraw, i guess they saw that my old account is still open so they locked my new one (where does the money go??) and i'm left with 32 dollars on my old one that i haven't even logged on for years.

Good month from a poker point of view. Not that many hands but really solid profit. Not that I have much luck trying to figure out how much I'm up this year including rakeback and MTT's, but I think I might even dubble what I did last year if I have two more good months. That'd be nice.

As for music I tried to fall asleep two nights ago and couldn't get some line out of my head; "Perhaps you're smiling now // smiling through this darkness // but all I had to give was the guilt for dreaming" or something like that. It bugged the hell out of me until I woke up and googled it and found out it was the bowie-song "time", which I*ve probably havn't heard in like 3 years. Now I'm sold on Bowie again

I manage, coach, and play for a 1st Division baseball team in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. My team is looking for some help in the 2011 season. We play 28 regular games, 8 playoff games and 8 preseason games. Also, our team goes to Spain every year for spring training (to Madrid and Valencia).

We are looking for experienced coaches/players with college experience to come play for our team from March to mid-July 2011 (regular season), and September 2011 (playoffs).

I’m looking in the poker player community because I know we have a lot of free time and we can do our work any place in the world.

Ok so I've been thinking for a while about tuning my play to the 2/5c games and about cbetting and all that, so rather than just thinking about it I just cranked out some HEM to look at a few things.

I am just wondering if these stats are reasonable to draw conclusions from because I know that some can be extremely misleading by not understanding the filters properly.


So I wanted to know about cbetting primarily to start with, and filtered for cbet made = true which looks fine and up. I changed it to vpip = true (so it doesn't get raped by the blinds) and searched for flop cbet = false, which also looked fine. At this stage I don't particularly care what is going on in the graph as long as the slope is in the up direction.

Next I wondered how cbetting without a hand was, and so I again set cbet made = true, along with the 'hand values' tab set to any high card, and then any high card and low pairs. Both of these graphs sucks massive ass, with a lot of money lost, so I set cbet made = false and this one also has loads of money lost, but a little more than cbetting.

Just now I quickly had a look at (again with high card + low pp) cbetting the flop and then cbetting/not cbetting the turn. Its an incredibly small sample where I've cbetted both (57 hands or so), but I'm actually up there but as I said that could be due to the number of hands. Not surprisingly, hands where I cbetted the flop and then didnt cbet the turn also have masses of losses.

I'm not really sure what this tells me, the only thing I can see is that it is marginally better to make a cbet with air in the spots that I have been choosing as opposed to not bothering and just giving up, and possible I need to cbet the turn more even when called on the flop on good boards.

How do you guys check for really simple and obvious leak spots?

Been I while since I've contributed my thoughts to this forum besides the random handhistory commenting. I'd like to share my thoughts on why I think cashgame pros are on average far better than tournament pros. There will always be outliers tho.

I'm going to stay as objective as I can be but since I am a cash game player my argument may come off as one sided. But I invite you to debate/flame/argue your point so I can once and for all know If I'm on the right path.

As a cash game player, I can play up to 1.5mil hands a year and If I am up a significant amount steadily over those 1.5mil hands it is pretty much definitive proof that I am a winner. However for a tournament player to definitively say they are a winner it is much more difficult, lets work on some simple math.

Lets say a super dedicated tournament pro who plays only online (We'll get to live tournament players later) can get about 40 tournaments in a day with an average stake of 50$ and avg field size of 500 (my numbers may be off, if someone here is a tour pro please comment on a more realistic figure) so over the course of one year using 6day work weeks, and 50week work year...

40 X 6 X 50 = 12000 tournaments a year for a super hardworking pro.

Now lets say this pro is super GG at cards like resident hero mig.com and cashes 15% of tournaments and Final tables 6% of tournaments. This is going to be the biggest leap in my argument in saying the hands that REALLY matter are the hands in the final table. Lets say due to the table getting shorter and shorter we get an avg of 80hands/hour at the final table (including break time) and a final table on avg lasts about 2hours at most from my limited MTT experience. Some more simple math we get......

12000 * 6% * 80 * 2 = 115200 hands of significant worth over one year of every day grind.

We all know MTT variance is sick, but if the most amount of volume you can achieve in one whole year is less than what a good cash game player plays in a month or two how can we justify calling them a pro??

I think there are very few pure MTT players out there that have proven themselves, as most of them are young and as my simple math shows it probably would take them a lifetime of playing to play what a cashgame player would in a year.

Now I'm not saying you suck at poker if you've won a tournament, I'm just saying you haven't proven anything.

I told you Entraction changed the blind structure in the super turbo sit and go's I'm grinding. Well, today they changed the starting stack from 1500 to 1000. So even though they changed the blinds to be slower it's even more crazy now with less chips in play. Huge swings to come, for sure. GL me with beating the rake. =(

I'll have to play €2.20's and €1.10's for the rest of the week. There's just too much luck involved at the moment. I'm just going to secure my spot in the leaderboard then wait for Entraction to change back to 1500 starting stacks or change site.

Holdem Manager is also not working properly now. It says that I lost €120 last session when it was just ~€35. Made me rage more than necessary over the new starting stacks.

Not in a rage but just a lil upset.

4th trip in the past 2 months going to my semi local casino to play the 1/3 nl live games. First few sessions went ok with nothing big happening, winning like 80, then 150, then like 72.

But this trip i just got back from, fucking -455. Fucking hyper fish on my direct right and all the others pretty much fish. Fucking couldn't turn a fucking profit isolating the fucking hyper fish like 1000000 times with hands that would dominate his hands like 90% of the time. Fucking card dead and lose with all my big preflop hands (yeah i know typical story).

But yeah, not too bad but still little upset, net loss from all my trips is prolly around 100-150. I think i have been playing well for most of the time. Ionno if i wanna take a break for a month or until i'm completely rolled (6k-8k in checking acct?) or/and just come back to grinding soft nl 10 pokerstars tables just for some semi-relaxing fun poker.

Anyhoo these blogs are ment to vent and make people who are also going through misfortune to feel a little better about themselves.

Playing live is easy.
Live feels like playing while online feels like work.
Playing stuck during live games sucks.

For anyone who doesn't know already. Christopher Nolan confirmed the title of Batman 3 is "The Dark Knight Rises" and the Riddler WILL NOT be a featured villain. Cliffs at the end of the blog post.

"I have some inside information from Warner bros. about the upcoming third batman film which is slated for release across cinemas in 2012.

Now this may or may not be true as of yet bearing in mind this is early days, but this is what they have been talking about. It's early days and so this is just an initial story outline/plot for the third batman movie according too people from warner bros. Now this is inside information and so this is what I have learnt.
They just need Chris Nolan/David Goyer and jonhathan to sit down and work on the script in a few months time when they are finished with their other film projects.

[Warner brothers are very keen for a fourth installment of the batman franchise. They have seen the success of the spiderman films and so want to repeat this with the batman franchise and if all goes according to plan and batman does well again, then there will of course be a fourth batman film with Warner bros. being VERY keen]

This is the rough draft/outline for the third batman film. There is no title yet:

The characters:

Talia al ghul - she will be interlinked with bruce wayne [being a love interest] as well linked with the mob.

Saying this, there will be a gang walfare across Gotham City stretching out into other neighbouring cities. Since the dissappearance of batman, Gotham city has been torn apart and there is a rise in the number of gangs and criminals etc... this keeps with the story of the long halloween/the dark victory comic books of gang wars.
This will make way for batman to comeback and show the people of gotham city that he is a hero to them all and that gotham can be saved and they will change their perceptions on batman. The story has not been thought out so this is just a rough character and story outline which has been talked about by warner bros.

The Penguin will be mentioned several times however the penguin will NOT be seen in the third movie. There is a strong connection with one of the mob and the penguin. However, the penguin will be just referred to as 'oswald' or 'oswald cobblepot' and not 'the penguin'. Like I said, he will be linked to one of the mob but will not feature as a villain in the third film.

Talia is linked to Bruce Wayne as well as having a connection to the mob and this may be linked with getting revenge on batman who allegedly killed her father - Rhas Al Ghul.

I'm not sure if any of you were aware of this but the Black Mask was actually written in the script of the dark knight however the black mask was later written out for some reason but now the written out scripts of his character will now feature in the third film.
The black mask will feature - The Black Mask being related to the mob. He will be a big criminal of the underworld. A big mobster.

Now The Black Mask will be a SIDE VILLAIN. AN ORDINARY CRIMINAL of the underworld who is in a gang war. He is in charge.

Now comes the big part.... The Riddler will feature albeit briefly.

There will be one major villain and a side villain to keep in line with the dark knight.

The Riddler
Black Mask - he will be an ordinary criminal with connections to the criminal underworld/mob

the penguin - 'Oswald' being mentioned but will not feature.

Talia al Ghul - interlinked with Bruce Wayne and the mob.

According to the next film, Twoface IS dead, the joker is in arkham asylum but we do not see the joker however the joker will be mentioned several times.

Previous themes being fear. escalation etc..
The theme for batman 3 is 'REDEMPTION'

Warner bros. are keen for a fourth and possibly FINAL film as I have said and they are keen for the joker to return!!! This will pleasantly round off the franchise and would be an exciting and great end for batman.
They are also keen in including Harley Quinn and the return of The Scarecrow as there could be a break out as arkham and the scarecrow might possibly feature in the fourth.
Other villains maybe catwoman, the penguin and mad hatter.
but this cannot be true until the script of batman three has been written.

Now this is early days and this is what has been going around from Warner bros.
You can choose to believe it or chose not too, it's up to you but like I said I have inside information about the next film and this is what I have 100% learnt from within the studio. !

If it's true it's going to be one hell of a batman film!

All that seems pretty likely now even though it was posted 2 years ago. Nolan said he will not revisit previous characters and named Penguin, and Mr. Freeze in particular as 2 villains he would never put. Killer Croc doesn't fit into his realism well. Catwoman doesn't seem to work out that great with his universe. Bane might be a bit to unrealistic for him although a hyper intelligent steroid like substance taking Bane (as was his original character) would be really awesome imo. But Black Mask is the easiest villain to do in the universe set up, mob ties, family history with Bruce. Think a wealthy more tame version of the Joker where there will be a lot of childhood flash backs during the course of the middle of the movie. Rumors are also saying Tom Hardy was cast as Bullock, but I can't imagine them wasting Hardy's acting talent on a character as minor as Bullock, I figure Hardy has to be a villain. I'm also pretty disappointed to hear of a female villain possibly being the main villain, doesn't seem like it will be to good. Overall my expectations are pretty low, I mean it's a Nolan movie so it will be good, but I think it'll be a level below TDK and Inception, probably slightly worse or at the same level as Batman Begins. Oh well, another trilogy where the third movie will probably be the weakest link. One issue I have with this plot is that Nolan said the third movie will be the last movie in the series and will complete his story arc, but guessing warner brothers had other plans and as usual they won out. The title is shitty imo. "Batman" would have been simple, continued with the trilogy titled and sounded better then The Dark Knight Rises, at least that what I think. I'm sure other people can come up with even better titles.

Been working on my HU game a bit more lately and having a lot of fun doing it along the way. Thanks for letting me know which HU videos out there are good LP. Appreciate it. pr1nnyraiding is a great series and has been a great refresher. Its really helping me get comfortable with playing more marginal hands and opening up my range. So now I need your help again guys. Im going to keep working on my HU game but since I do start tables its important that I can play shorthanded. So again, what are some good videos for someone starting to get into shorthanded play. I feel like I could use a refresher in that area of my game too. (I have accounts on all the training sites)

Been working on my starcraft game a bit too. Mostly just watching replays and trying to find some builds for each matchups. Again, thanks guys for letting me know some great sites for replays. I was shocked to see that SlayerSBoxeR is still playing! I remember WAY back in the day when he was the man. His drop ship skills were unbelievable. But yea, hopefully I will be able to put in quite a few games this weekend and get moved out of this stupid bronze division. I feel like I can beat almost anyone at this level with good macro. Need something more challenging!

Halloween is coming up which Im pretty excited for now that I got my costume. Im going to be Maverick from Top Gun this year haha. Got the aviators to go with it and everything. Going to hit up a keg party at my buddies on saturday, get shittered there and then head downtown for the rest of the night. Should be a great night.
