video review
  jasper5408, Jul 26 2009

uh i was bored over the weekend, and randomly saw alot of lp videos.
this is just a list of my observations/opinions.

1. apparently there was no site to consistently upload videos too. i guess the 2006 era kinda sucked for uploading video.

2. frinkx - apparently he made 2 videos. both are apparently highly entertaining. one he coolers/destroys some other lper i guess. and the other...well the other one...was like a novel...exposition, where we are introduced to frinkx and his playing style...climax where we get rick rolled....and then falling action/resolution where we are bombarded with a tt montage...yea fml for dling it.

3. sakisaki - i saw 3 of his videos. uh, his most recent one is just crazy compared to his first 2-3. the difference in skil level is absolutely clear... and so is his improvement in english. i just thought it was funny that not only did he get better at poker, he also got a lot better at english. he made some adjustments which i think was just the way online poker changed as a whole. (more 3betting oop than in position) but it's really interesting cause u can see his videos and they cover a span of like 2 years.

4. couldn't find kets, cro's, or mf28 (i think this is the one where frinkx coolers/destroys/begins an epic flamewar)

5. midian's is absolutely worth watching. dl the stupid retarded codec its worth it.

6. likewise same with myth's. his video is pretty interesting. i liked myth's as well mainly cause he offered a very different playing style. he plays more single raised pots, vs 3-bet pots. not to say that he can't or won't. but it's just nice to see that all poker isn't the same. and that there really are in fact many different approaches to the game.

7. mez's video...just lol.

8. thor's video...they are such lucky mfuckers to get that on video. they pretty much start a dynamic with a retard....but they also get AA vs QQ and get paid off...paid off huge. it's so great. this is like one of the best things about poker, and something everyone wishes hopes to do (and the fact that they capture it on video...so lol).

9. for some reason, dusty's video seemed hidden under the rug fro plain view. i really enjoyed his video and def recommend it.

10. jcosmo's vid is very solid, and really opens your eyes to a lag approach.

i suppose i'll just end my little review with my personal favs in order. i'll even tier them up so u can see how close one is to the other.

1.0 midian
1.15 myth
2. saki's
2.5 dusty's
4. cosmo's
5. mez's
6. thor's

if anyone has ket's video, or frinkx's other video i'd enjoy watching them.

also i'm just gonna add that all these video's are so much more worth watching then the cr video's that i've seen.

i don't want to be a nit anymore.
  jasper5408, Jul 24 2009

i'm a nit. i play my hands. i need cards to win the monies. i v-bet the best i can. i make ppl pay for draws the best i can. i hand read the best i can. i'm still a nit.

i am plowing through nl25. without programs or coaching. but i play to not spew. not spew wins the fucking monies. until what limit does [not spew] = win monies?

i want to get better. i want to become better at this game. i'm really starting to love this game. there was a point in time where i stopped posting as many threads. cause i figured i saw all there was to see in the hand summary. i could read deep and figure out everything.

gradually i started seeing advice from some of the better people (mainly tt and baal (<--i know wtf)) and it was somewhat incredible how well they thought out a hand.

this post is somewhat a bunch of rambling and nonsense, but i guess i can conclude it in this measure. i want to become a better player. so much so that i'm going to inconvenience many of you (as well as myself, i hate to be faggot). with many jackass threads in the nl 25 section.

anyway today was a good day up 4 buy ins ^_~

review time
  jasper5408, Jul 22 2009

so help me review a few hands plz? some of these spots are kinda trivial :/
<3 to anyone who does ~
comments here or directly on the hands is ok

1. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720305 my shove over short stack is retarded right? i mean lots of bad ppl wouldn't raise AA KK QQ JJ AK TT here...i think my shove only folds out AK JJ TT. but even if i min raise i feel like that would pot commit me to a reshove. which leaves a flat call but that seems inviting to the guy behind me.

2. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720304 standard double barrel against an A high flop. But is it worth it with my hand or is it spew? Flush draws (with backdoor straight possibilities), and lower PP will prob fold to double barrel, but i doubt that any Ax would call me down.

3. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720303 (limp calling in the sb is such a bozo move, i wish i had just raised it) 3 card straight flush on the flop, lots of cards to help me check raise turn, almost just decided to check raise turn. guys range is mostly broadway cards and pp? maybe broadway cards will check turn as my perceived range seems to have hit this board (but villian prob does not think about perceived ranges)

4. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720302 pretty frequent squeezer. he likes to squeeze with AT+ and sometimes PP. I think he tends to call with pp and is fine with setmining. Does my minraise get him off of AT+ (AK?), and lower pp? It seemed to me like the right play. His cbet on flop was automatic which was odd.

5. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720301 looking back clear reraise to 4.5-6 seems alot better. AJ KJ QJ possibly with flush draws, lots of pair+ flush draws, sets, and possibly 99, J9, T9, and other pair + straight draws. wats best line here to take? bet half the pot and call a shove?

6. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720300 didn't c-bet flop, some missed spade draws, and straight draws, but he checked back on the flop. not much i can beat here. i don't know if he's an idiot who may vbet worse here. i don't think he has KT/QT/JT, but 99, 88 may have made a play here.

7. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720299 should i check turn here, since Jx will bet the turn for me, and will also allow lower pp and other garbage to barrel me?

8. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720298 shove here is slightly confusing, cause the shortstack fish was in the pot. i thought a call would invite the fish to join the fire, but the shove i thought indicated AK or QQ, TT, 99. Should I be raising this? Flatting seems sooooo nitty. Also, we played a few hands, and i think he knows i'm a solid player. so i think my perceived range is slightly wider than it actually is (more AK AQ hands)

herm some hands
  jasper5408, Jul 14 2009

as always any comments/suggestions more than welcome

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/717194 <-- villain saw a lag video, and now thinks he's a pro, had fun taking alot of his monies. the plan on this hand was to 3 bet for him to call and shove any flop. i'm pretty happy with my play here but my raise pre may have been a bit to low (but i really wanted him to call)

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/717186 <--a bit more tricky. 3 bet pot, so i figure AK and pairs are most of his range. i never thought he could call with lower Qx in a 100 years. does that make my play here bad? i think he raises me with TT JJ to see where he's at (cause i've seen him do this play although not in a 3 bet pot). AK hearts, sets and possible over pairs are the majority of his range. I figure flush draws are commited, TT JJ will fold out (but the pot's so big already), AA KK and sets will call. i mainly shoved because i didn't like the idea of the flush completing and me being in a shitthole spot, nor did i like the idea of a flush card missing and him possibly getting away from the hand.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/717183 <-- not really sure about my play here, and thoughts? pros/cons?

shortstackers/vip stars
  jasper5408, Jul 13 2009

been seeing alot of shortstackers at night. kinda gay. i'm just gonna write about my experiences with them so far, any tips/advice is always welcome.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Shortstackers: A summary

There exists 2 types: fish and shark. Fish tend to limp/call at will so always bet for value against them. They shove sometimes with no reasoning, and will lead for a retarded amount. I've had good success just raising their raise and they seem to fold fine. The shark type usually conceals himself with a shortstack. And people usually will stack off with them light. Unfortunately they tend to stack off with JJ + and AK exclusively. I think people in general like to stack off way to light with these players, mainly because it's kinda fun to stack off for 5 bucks.

Due to short stack, there are few decisions for them to make. You are essentially always risking their shortstack with a cbet. There is no way to outplay them. There is really no room for higher thinking. I like to narrow my range, and bet a little extra with good hands and force my good cards to balance his gay short stack play.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, something i've been doing is more or less immediately getting up if a gold/platinum star sits next to me. I feel like in nl25 there isn't much poker to be played, except properly value betting, and properly concealing the strength of your hand is all you have to do. I don't even bluff much at this level either. I figure the gold stars + will rarely spew, and there really isn't a point in playing them. However is there anything to be learned by sitting with them?

  jasper5408, Jul 10 2009

hey no whining from me.

been playing nl 25 for a while, still haven't bought a hud or anything. i know plenty of million threads/debates i must have read a bunch. i know there are a few green stars who refuse to play with them. anyway i was wondering if someone could concisely and correctly explain pro/con for me.

also about to reach goldstar soon, i know they have some decent perks, any tips on what to use fpp/vpp for?

also ty for the tips on python. i've been playing much better i'm almost sure of it.

tips to win on python~
  jasper5408, Jul 08 2009

been playing on europe for a while (b.net)

i play as zerg and my games against toss and terran are pretty sub par. i feel like the map is so huge that expanding is so key and mandatory but i never seem to get my timing right. any tips on when u feel the timing is right to expand? specifically against toss

i like to get some what fast zergling to force toss to build extra cannons. i also feel that i can get a few probes if he doesn't build enough cannons, or if he mis places cannons at his expo i can snag a few probes/do some decent harass.

i feel on python teching to muta is mandatory for good harass. and then i switch to lurker tech + hydras. this is usually when i choose to expand. but i may need to do it earlier?

sigh...
  jasper5408, Jul 08 2009

for me even worse than getting sucked out on when all your moneies are in, is when you don't even get to put it in with the best hand. today was no action on any good hands day, and when u make hands everyone auto folds. it was just really boring. and then lose some monies. make dumb calls (just to prove you run bad!). all in all though, i keep comparing myself to the player i used to be. and that makes me feel alot better. i really feel like today i could have went broke but did a really good job in preventing that from happening. and then you bet half pot, and the guy with middle pair ---> 2 pairs, and then of course he's a short stack and you're now committed

i'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a much better day.

oh, i'm a ...mother goose?
