Selling WSOP ME action by sTrAtO, June 29

Hello guys,

I'll be going this year to the WSOP Main Event. I think I'm EV+ in the tournament although it will be my first time in Las Vegas and obviously the WSOP. It won't be my first live experiencie though as I have played in 3 LAPTs (Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico (2008); Rosario, Argentina (Sep 2010) and Lima,Peru (Apr 2011), and this August I will be playing the Punta del Este event as well as the Americas Cup which I qualified for). Unfortunately, in the last two LAPTs I was not able to cash in the Main Events but I have done pretty decent in the Second Chance (SC) events. In Argentina I Final Tabled the $2,000 SC but busted in 8th place unfortunately. I was chipleader for almost the entire tournament but lost two big flips when we were down to 18 players (AT
Online I've also had decent tournament success besides the recent Sunday Million score. Check my id: o_omx in both stars and ftp (I dont play on FTP anymore due to recent obvious events)

I believe I'm a trust worthy player and I have never stole any money from my backers. TimDawg, Baal and lostaccount can confirm this.

Anyways, I would like to sell up to 30% of my action at 1% = $120 which I believe is a decent rate. Minimum purchase is 3%, but if I fail to sell enough action in time I guess I could start booking 1% and 2%s.

IMPORTANT
I think it is very important to tell you guys that as a Mexican I will be charged with 30% tax of the prize money I get and it is unsure if I will be able to get those taxes back or not. I would have to fill in some forms and ask for a tax refund and in case I'm given the taxes back, I will obviously give you your money from that.

I'm leaving to Las Vegas probably on July 5th so hopefully you guys will be able to buy something.

Send me a PM or post in here to starting booking.

Thank you,

Francisco Rios

Update
Hey guys, I finished selling action. Thanks to Darki and Arirang who got the last pieces.

Fighting IRL now tougher with MMA around by whamm!, June 28

I've seen so many guys who were practitioners of karate, taekwondo, jujitsu, boxing, judo get owned against an untrained opponent in bar, school and street fights. Seems to me the most composed fighters, whatever the discipline, come out on top more often than not. In general though I've witnessed guys primarily trained in karate(shotokan, mudokwan, tangsudo, etc) and taekwondo get raped the most in a fistfight, and guys who just "know" boxing or are good in Judo pretty much pwn. I'm not talking about random 4 punch club or street affairs where the other guy either gets KO'ed right away or fight gets broken up prematurely (gay obv), I'm talking about full-blown fights that followed thru till the end where one guy was left standing or obviously in a very dominant position (mounted, raining down punches or other guy's legs totally gone running purely on "intent" to fight)

With the advent of MMA and the seemingly adverse effect is has on the fun of fighting(or watching fights) in public is that you never really know if the guy has some MMA background (chances are he knows some). It's like partypoker then uigea/cardrunners, RL fight fish then MMA/UFC.

I dont see where I'm going with this(lol) but I'd like to hear other guys views on what they think are the most useful things disciplines that are really useful IRL self-defense. I watch youtube vids and it seems the other guy always throws these super-telegraphed kicks/punches or idiotic wide open strikes just to make the whole thing look good. Imo boxing and/or jujitsu would be it, I've seen good boxing training IRL being used and I can attest to its effectivity, with Jujitsu though, I think its pretty clear that long fights will always go to the ground eventualy so its pretty self explanatory.

Useful:
*boxing
*jujitsu
*Judo/aikido
*muay thai/kickboxing
*arnis/krav/silat/wingchun

LOL:
*kungfu
*taekwondo
*karate
*wrestling
*capoeira (ROFL)

Has the RL fight scene changed for majority of our juvenile brothers where variance has become really high now?
thoughts?

FR coaching. by Siro, June 28

I'm a 2/4 FR winning regular. In my afternoons, 2/4+ games die and I have free time to be able to coach.

I've only coached friends before but have been through 2 large profit-share setups online to know how to get the best out of it (from student's perspective).

Most recently with AndrewSong (baller~) who I'm sure will vouch for me.

I'm looking to do single hours at $100/hour of Full Ring only. If it's mutually beneficial, then we can discuss longer term deals.

Please PM if interested.

cashout problems by the cleaner, June 28

Hey folks,

I have been playing cash games on pokerstars since late 2006. I'm a german citizen living in venezuela, and usualy cash out using direct bank transfer to my german bank account. today my cashout was declined, since they say that i'm living in venezuela and can't cashout to my german bank account. i usualy spend between 7 to 8 months in venezuela and the rest of the year in germany. as a matter of fact i always go there since my son receives therapy twice a year. I'm also registered under my parents address since 2007.

i had the same problem back in 2009 when i requested them to send me a rsa token to my venezuelan address. back then i talked on the phone to a really nice asian dude from ps support, and he had enough common sense to understand my situation. since i didn't wanted to cashout to a venezuelan bank account since this is a huge hassle.

well to make a long story short, this time the support dude is acting stupid and says i need to use different cashout options like neteller. I'm still trying to reason with them but in the meantime does anybody knows if i can make transfers from neteller to my german banking account? in that case i will try and activate my neteller again.

One way ticket by spets1, June 28

SO i live in sydney right.

I am thinking of quitting my job somewhere around september, october and get a one way ticket to asia.

Not sure where to though. I am thinking of making it a back packing tour. And start indonesia or something and keep making my way further. May end up in russia. My home country. Where I will have free accomodation.

Ive got jsut over 10k saved up right now. If I dont travel too much I could rent a place somwehre cheap like vietnam or Laos and stay there for a while and enjoy the chill.
This is my rough plan.

Kidnapped! by OrganicG, June 27

I’ve been trying to convince myself to start writing a blog for a while now, but I’ve managed to put it off for the last few weeks. I woke up this morning and had a list of things I had to get done… so far I’m making some progress. In case you haven’t figured out yet, there was no kidnapping.

If you’ve read this far… well I’m surprised to say the least. I thought most of you would have realized this blog will not be extremely exciting by now. Actually, that’s not true I’m selling myself short, I’ve got a lot of pretty awesome blog posts planned out for the upcoming week, so I think you guys should all enjoy it. I’m planning on updating it every few days.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Greg. I’ve been involved in the poker world for quite some time now, 4 years I believe. Some of you guys may remember me from the days of Baller Poker (when it was still around).

Supplements + Working Out

I put an order in for some new supplements last week! Over the past year I’ve gotten involved in working out a fair bit at the gym. Not to the point where I’m some big looking juice freak (not the look I want), but just trying to build muscle and generally stay in good shape. I’ve always thought guys who have really big muscles (and think they’re jacked) but have alot of body fat are complete fools. For anyone who goes to the gym you know exactly who I’m talking about! Anyways here’s a picture of the supplements I just bought (excuse the low quality blackberry pics):

http://www.organicrakeback.com/wp-con...loads/2011/06/supplements-582x436.jpg

I picked up a ten pound bag of ON Gold Standard Whey. This stuff is awesome, regarded as the best protein you can get your hands on these days. I picked a not so great flavour however, Rocky Road. Got a little too adventurous, I know to stick to the straight chocolate from now on. Usually end up taking 1 shake before my workout around lunch and one within 30 minutes after my workout.

I also picked up some ON Casein, which is a protein which takes longer to digest. The idea is that you take it right before bed so that your muscles don’t start breaking themselves down throughout the night! Went for cake batter… turned out to be an okay flavour, but not great.

I also bought a pre-workout because it was on sale. I’ve never been a huge fan of pre-workouts, seems like most of the time you’re just buying a powder loaded with caffeine (not a great thing to be putting in your body). One of my buddies that I work out with says he can feel his concentration increase and he gets a way better pump when he takes this stuff… I’ve yet to feel anything. Any of you guys use stuff like Jack3d?

Also got ON Multivitamins and Glutamine capsules. Pretty much just your standard multivitamin, but has higher amounts of various vitamins than normal multis since they are for working out. Glutamine just helps your body break down protein and build muscle. I’ve never actually taken Glutamine caps before, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start taking them.

I’ve hit a plateau as of late in terms of building muscle. I’m 6’4 and around 215 pounds and I’ve been stuck between 210-220 for the past month or so. I’d like to add 10 pounds perhaps, but really not looking to bulk up much more than that.

American Players

I had a pretty awesome week last week. I helped a poker player I met from Miami come down and relocate to Canada (for the purposes of his Full Tilt Poker account). To be clear, he didn’t actually move down here, he just flew down for a few days so that I could help him set up a moneybookers account and get his Full Tilt account switched to Canadian residency status. Pretty pumped to say I got everything set up so that he was able to cash out the day after he landed!

So all in all he was pretty happy with the trip, and I was happy that I could help him out. It’s pretty incredible that Americans can’t cash out their Full Tilt funds, yet I was able to help an American who flew over to meet me get access to his funds within 48 hours! Needless to say I have a few more American players that I will be helping out over the coming weeks. I really feel sorry for all these Americans who are falling victim to all this ridiculous stuff going on with legislation and Full Tilt. At the end of the day PokerStars comes out looking like a real gem from all of this!

Grapples

I was out grocery shopping yesterday and I came across something that I had never seen before! I’m sure alot of you American guys have seen this already, but it’s new to me:

http://www.organicrakeback.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/grapple-416x312.jpg

Grapples! Supposedly they are apples that taste like grapes! I wasn’t really sure if these are some sort of genetically modified foods or if they are something else! A friend was trying to tell me that they are just apples that are soaked in grape juice, but that didn’t really make sense to me. Anybody have any idea how these things are made! They cost $5 US for 4 of them. I figured I’d give them a pass since I already had some apples at home.

Anyways that pretty much does it for this blog! I’ve got some pretty exciting posts coming up, so keep reading! Thanks for your time guys!

NL200 Live Poker by jewlian, June 27

I've been having some success at casino's/underground poker games but I'm still terrible overall.

Just sucked out on villain with KK vs QQ (me) all-in preflop when I hit my set on the turn. A few hands later, this happens:

I'm dealt 5c8c on button. Same villain raises to about 10 and I reraise to 35ish. Everyone else folds and he flat calls.

Flop comes out 7c9cTd. He bets about 50...

What do I do here? He has about 270 or so left in his stack. Just call?

Villain info: He doesn't like me and has been playing fairly TAGish

poker short story by traxamillion, June 27

just wrote this for my creative writing class. kinda funny and probably not too far off for some people

Cameron Duncan
English 161 short story #1

During the first years of college Darnell began playing poker in the dorms. Five and ten dollar games in the evenings between buddies. Tending to win he soon realized there was potential for more than just recreation with this game. On weekends Darnell and his best friend Maxwell would make the two hour drive from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara to play Sunday tournaments at the Chumash Indian Casino. Success continued and the boys began to forgo partying in favor of card games; eventually forgoing classes as well once introduced to online poker.

Unlike at the live tables on the online felt Darnell was free to play at any time on as many tables as possible. He built his skills studying the game, playing almost a thousand hands per hour, and discussing poker hands with other adept players. Prompted by success stories of eighteen year old kids making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year playing online poker and personal success with the game for over two years he decided to put school on hold and pursue cards full time.

Darnell grew up in an LA ghetto and never had much materially but was bright, and made good choices. A strong sense of logic propelled him past many of his peers. With poker it was no different. Within two months of going pro he shipped his first big win in a large field multi-table tournament on PokerStars. He beat out sixteen hundred players for a first place prize of eighty thousand dollars; life changing money. Darnell knew that while luck is a huge factor in the short term results of a poker player, in the long term the man who makes the best decisions overall will win out. Down the road skill will overcome variance.

So our new pro gambler decided to move down to the coast of San Diego and rent out a nice place with some fellow players on the beach. Life was good and the success continued as Darnell improved his game further. He bought a nice new Mercedes Benz, expensive clothes, and spent lavishly at the bars on Garnett street in Pacific Beach having a grand time doing big things both day and night.

Drunk one night celebrating a win in the one hundred dollar rebuy tournament on Full Tilt Poker for thirty four grand with an open bar at the Typhoon, Darnell met a beautiful girl named Marissa. Things moved quickly but with the freedom offered by online poker and the unlimited ceiling for success Darnell was ready to make some bold decisions. He withdrew a large portion of his online bankroll to put a hefty down payment on a waterfront two bedroom condo for him and his new girl. He never worried too much about making payments or the amount he was spending on bars and Gucci purses. Then it hit.

On April 15 2011 The US Department of Justice unexpectedly and inexplicably shut down all of the major online poker sites operating in the states. A hundred thousand American poker players instantly lost their online bankrolls. Like a puff of smoke it was all gone; the money and the opportunity. Cash was seized by the government or sites ran off with it overseas. Unfortunately for Darnell he never saw a dime of the near two hundred racks he had online. His was a true riches to rags story.

Darnell had drive and tried to turn things around but his hole was deeper than he realized. He tried playing live poker in the San Diego cardrooms with what cash he had remaining in bank accounts but he couldn’t handle the smell of despair, desperation and cigarettes that permeated the places. Playing one table at a time it was just impossible to have the same winrate as before and large worldwide tournaments with the chance for huge scores were gone. Marissa was hot and the sex was good but she couldn’t carry her weight any further than around a pole. It didn’t take long for her to split when the handbags and the allowance was gone. Darnell couldn’t pay off the home loan and ultimately lost that too.

Darnell found a sick irony in that it was only in the land of the free that online poker was effectively banned. He could go play online in Iraq if he wanted. With a years long resume gap and no way back into college Darnell sold the Benz and moved up to Vancouver Canada to try to get his online grind back on as a last resort. It was never really the same for him though. Unfamiliar European poker sites with much harder games without the recreational US players. Depression over a girl and family and a lost lifestyle; it all seemed an insurmountable mountain to climb. Without any friends in the area Darnell began abusing prescription pain killers which didn’t help his poker game any. Not lucid and perhaps a turn of bad luck led to him becoming a losing player. Within months Darnell was blowing the last of his savings going into east Vancouver ghettos daily to score heroin after succumbing to an IV addiction. Before long he shot a hot dose of fentanyl cut dope and was dead. Darnell took a proverbial “bad beat” in the game of life and subsequently tilted the rest away as, sadly, many are prone to do.

Getting back on track 2 by PplusAD, June 26

Didnt play Poker last 2 months.
Lived of my +1050$ march results and cashing out rest of my bankroll.
March was an excellent month but after this 1 month of daily grind i simply hated poker and had zero motivation to ever play again.
I tried the first days of april but speewed away like 300$ and then cashed out.

Unfortunately life is expensive even when u are a nit and since i didnt find a job that i can do comfortable besides university i declared bankrupt 2 weeks ago and needed a 500€ loan from my parents to be able to pay June bills T_T

basically there are not many good jobs u can do alongside studying at university.

So there i stood ....
Last Sunday decided to take 50€ of the 500€ of my parents loan and put it on Pokerstars
Started grinding 3.40$ HU SNGS with 71$ Bankroll...
moved up to 7$ last days

http://i.imgur.com/ZQY3b.jpg

Results so far 17h of play 14.50 $/h

lets see how things go over a bigger sample

Getting back on track is tough by LemOn[5thF], June 26

No doubt in part because of one thing I lack very often-moderation (see my last blog post) my routine was just completely blown away.

From the maximum of the couple weeks of doing everything right I went to the standard low from a couple months ago. How?

Well, first I got ill had a nasty cold and a headache, and subsequent mucus on lungs eww, it would be gone in a couple days, but as god wanted, it perfectly overlapped with my graduation and my 86year old great aunt visiting for 4 days. Now she always supported me and she sends me letters every month giving me updates about our family and what's up in my country of origin and she travelled 1,000 kilometres alone just to see my grdatuation, we had a great time, she met my girlfriend and we travelled through Edinburgh (what a great city by the way). It also meant I didn't get much sleep because she arrived late at night and her plane left 8 am in the morning and I had to explore the city and get some graduation drinks when at the climax of the illness. On top of that my wisdom teeth started calling again, and I spent about 6 days on painkillers.

Well what can I say, my regime? Gone, and right now I got back to my old ways. It sucks when you can't go to the gym, when you can't do things to the max and worse of all if you are me, if you have any sort of excuse to get back to your old self.

last few days I even stopped writing my food diary and yesterday and today the worst symptom of being 'me' turned up. I stopped doing easy things like 'I will play now' 'I won't play until I watch 2 videos' I will go to sleep at 12:30' 'I will write my poker diary after this session' and I started to spend again some 4 hours per day, frantically pressing F5 and posting for the sake of it. Well although I learned some nice concepts, it's not what I want to do, and I don't feel in control.

Well it's time to get back on track...again

/end rant

EDIT: I wrote this in the gym while waiting for my girlfriend (She always takes 20-30 minutes to shower and do whatever mysterious female thingies females do)

I actually did a good intensity workout, breathing heavily and from there we went right to the supermarket and bought up like 4kg of fruit and veg. Tomorrow is my day without poker so I will get my head clear and I will own the Food diary again, my number one commitment that I omitted for some 3-4 days.

It's funny but very often too much poker can be harmful for me, I start obsessing and when I skip my regime, exercise and socializing i lose the protective barrier that gets built up with the increase of the important neurotransmitters, and for example today I had a NL50 session where I got hammered second time in a row, just in some 400 hands and I lost just 1.4BI but my heart started pounding heavily and fight or flight and obsessive behavior was induced along with a rapid drop in mood after losing a miniscule amount of both money and BIs. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind dwelling on some hands or concepts for very long, but I need to be able to tell myself when to stop, and when you stop doing stuff like socializing, breakfast, morning routine and generally doing things that make you feel good, your serotonin levels get low and obsessive behavior takes very little to be triggered, and I also lose motivation to get out if it and actually do the good things that are very simple to do when you think about them rationally.

Taking the first proper step out of the rut is the most important, but also the hardest thing to do, and hopefully I just made it. It took me 3 days of 'for sure I will do it' confirmation before I actually kicked my fat ass and force it to go to the gym and pool.

flood update w/pics by bigredhoss, June 26

so last night was fucking bizarre, it reached 82 degrees F during the day and there was a fucking hail storm at night. it was really brief, only a few minutes, but the most intense fucking hail i've ever seen. i looked out my window and literally couldn't see more than maybe a foot out it was so thick. there were also a couple funnel clouds that never got close enough to the ground to be officially labeled tornadoes. weird fucking shit all at once. maybe volcanoes tomorrow -.-

anyway, good news: the river has crested about 2 feet lower than they previously predicted, worst appears to be over.

bad news: town still got annihilated, still smashed the old record of from 1881, thousands of homes ruined, and they announced the tap water is possibly infected with parasites so we can't/shouldn't use it for 24 hours minimum without boiling it (longer if they confirm it is indeed infected).

videos:

edit - just found this photo montage someone made:
