I'm really quitting the game this time. I have to get into grad school, finish additional levels in my CFA exams, and spend more time with the people I love in RL. After repeated failures, I figured that the best way to quit was to give away my paid account for free to someone on LP.
I have 2 conditions:
1. I'd like to give it away to someone who's not completely new to HoN/DoTA, because this game has an insane learning curve and some of you may become too disgusted to continue playing.
2. I don't want to give it away to someone who's completely random to me.
Additionally, I don't mind giving away this account to someone who's already playing HoN because I've immensely enjoyed playing with all of you from LP, and I think a lot of you wouldn't mind having a second account to screw around with.
There's a name change option that I've purchased with in-game coins, so you can change the account name to whatever you desire once you've won the account from me.
Leave a comment in this blog and I'll pick out the names I recognize, assign numbers to your name and do a random roll during a final log-in to the HoN client for the winner, to whom I will PM the account information.
Stars shares for the 'daily bigs'by MTT-DESTROYER, April 22
Hi, stars have renamed some of their usual daily mtt's into 'the daily bigs' and if you play 3 of them of the same value you receive a free scoop ticket for the same value as well. (e.g play 3 x $11 get an $11 scoop ticket).
They are:
$11 50k
$22 25k
$55 100k
$109 50k
Total per day = $197
Total for 3 days = $591
I'm looking to sell 30% of my action for which you get 30% of any returns, plus you get the added bonus of 30% in the four Scoop events I will play with the tickets earnt from this promotion, a lot of VALUE! I am 25k in profit from mtt's and I am very comfortable playing these limits.
I have sold shares before to OjKa and I sent back any money we had left, i'm sure he can confirm this if required.
I'm at a stage in life where poker makes Zero sense to play.
1) I have a job which gives me great career options going forward and is a constantly challenging learning process. Any extra work I put into learning extra skills and industry knowledge/standards translates to huge long term +EV.
2) I have an investment portfolio that has a much greater long term EV return for time invested (i.e. keeping track of the markets, reading business and economic news every day, studying financials and business propositions of public corporations, etc) than can ever realistically give me for the same number of hours committed. Even if I make GREAT money at poker per year, the per hour return compounded over many decades will definitely lose out to equivalent commitment to investing disciplines.
3) I have a number of pursuits that give me great joy and are healthy pastimes (random coding projects, the odd blogging activity, yardwork -loliknow-, gym ratting, etc.).
The upsides Poker gave me were
a) Monetary gains - countered by points (1) and (2) above.
b) Enjoyment - countered by point (3) above.
c) Meeting people - irreplaceable, but at this point I don't feel the need to actually play the game to sustain or grow this aspect.
I still get mild to strong urges to play Poker again. It's unmistakably a fun game for me to play. But my enjoyment is correlated to winning, and winning tends to be a long term result. Long term means I need to commit many hours to make sure I win, and in turn enjoy the activity.
The dots just don't connect for me anymore, so I try my best to reason myself out of playing the game. I've been successful so far, and hopefully I can build on this track record. It's tough quitting 'the habit', but spending 3-4 hours in front of a monitor clicking buttons and being stressed out about running into the top of someone's range just doesn't seem to make sense for me anymore.
I guess the current hoopla surrounding FTP/Stars does help me out in this regard.

I understand how a normal stake works for cashgames, i.e. 50/50 split for x hands with makeup. But what if a player and a staker put up an equal amount of money for the bankroll, what percentage should go to the player?
i've been basically bodypart split bb training for a long ass time and decided to switch it up a bit. i want to diet down but on standard bb split it is frustrating to work your ass off doing the same lifts over and over again and lose strength. on the come up it's a lot of fun b/c you can eat a shit ton of grits then like slather some chicken w/ a ton of bbq sauce and potatoes and go wild in the gym and see all your lifts improve but i've more or less stayed the same for a while.
basically i remember there was a thread posted about the spartacus workout as well as i know there are a lot of mma guys on here and i was just wondering if anyone has experience w/ this type of training. #1 it was extremely motivating to see how fast i can do the workout. #2 in theory and practice i don't see how anything can get you more shredded. #3 it's new and exciting. i don't want to lose all my gains from standard bb'ing though so was curious about this from ppl w/ more experience.
also, anyone have any workout drug recommendations?
i have used hot-rox in the past and would use again.
So the next step to becoming a better (cash game) poker player is playing more.
-Obviously need rakeback heard its like 35% daily. Rakeback, promotions info?
-Whats the best MERGE site?
-Should I chance it right now in the US?
ummm.. anymore info would be cool. I saw carbon offering me lots of spam bonuses.
Macau and sponsored prosby HeroPoker-CEO, April 19
So I'm here in Macau until tomorrow morning and I'm here meeting casino owners cause they are asking me to consult for them for this and that project, flew in here from Korea and was in Japan two days before hand. I hate flying.
Coincidentally, there are two full tilt pros here playing in the big cash game at Galaxy Starworld, Tom was here about a month ago, but right now there is just John and Ivey. They are really nice guys, I don't have a bad thing to say about them. Ivey just crushed, crushed a business man heads up last night for a sik amount of cash, just crushed. Business man knew he was going to get crushed, but being a rich Chinese business man, he wanted to show he is fearless...to each their own I guess. But yeah, I think those two are really great guys.
One of the pros I really like a lot is Erick Lindgren, I met him in Japan and hung out with for a fews days a year and half ago and we met again at the Aussie Millions this year as he was at the same table as my own Hero Poker Pro Gavin Griffin. Sadly, Erick wasn't on this trip, but I think he is a really cool guy, a real man's man you know, they kind you drink a beer with and shoot the shit with.
I've always had a lot of respect for all the pros I've worked with such as Joe Hachem, Lee Nelson, Fossilman... and I don't count Elky cause he is family. But of course I'm most proud of my own Pros,
Gavin, Terrence, Mig, Rekrul, Ewing & Powell because they aren't so young, but not old yet and there represent a lot of real hard fought achievement and they are always getting better or trying to be better.
I just signed on a new regional pro that will be announced in May, a very different pro, but has my respect and has notable achievements.
I've also signed on a model, and so I'm not going to be shy about that I picked her cause she is smoking hot and yes there will be lots of pics forth coming. But she is really quite intelligent, 3 languages does acting as well, etc. But my thinking is very much a Korean man's thinking, so I figure, if you're gonna sign a female player to represent the site, it doesn't necessarily mean she needs to be the best woman's player, but if she is willing to learn the game, and she is more of a celebrity type sponsored player.
I think I will be adding in a online pros section as well, I haven't gotten the structure down yet, but right now I think: Team, Regional, Celebrity and Online is more than the mainstream standard. I reckon there is only value in that if you are going mainstream, and just online pros alone, well I think that is useless or just celebrity pros alone is even more of a waste of money. But even with the model, she is a knockout but she is uber capable, professional and a real fighter, I am really proud to have gotten her on board, she really is the total hero package for our brand.
But things are happening quite fast nowadays, my second son will be born approximately May 2nd, and then after a week I should fly off to the new market launch, then come back after a couple of weeks and manage things from Korea. I'm trying not to think too much of about what people are going through in the US, it really does pain me, especially when I read about guys who have kids, that really kills me cause I know exactly how it feels. exactly.
I do spend my day thinking of ways to contribute and I hope that I will in the long run be a respected part of the international poker community as a responsible executive.
Cheers,
David
Summary:
-in Macau and so are Ivey and John
-Ivey crushed a rich Chinese business guy last night HU, crushed
-I really think Erick Lindgren is the man
-I love my pros, they rock the free world
-Have a new regional pro, and celebrity model pro
-will likely launch some online pros as well
-fuck, I really feel bad when I think about the US still and those guys with kids as I have 1 with one due in early May
So i have played only 6 tables of shorthanded 100 nl in Full Tilt for the last 22 days. My friends have sort of coached/helped me out a lot letely and guided me to thinking on a new level. I feel that i have improved my game a lot. Mostly controlled my 3betting more, thinking more on the whole ranges of players etc... I have tried to put myself not into so much shitty spots out of position and keeping the game and decisions as easy as possible for me in general. I have gained back a lot of confidence as well. At first i was gonna move up to 1/2 2 weeks ago but then I decided to try some more stuff in 0.5/1 until the end of April and see how well i can do in 100 nl for the whole month. Anyways without further adue here is the graph(sorry about the min brag):
So, in 1 day and 9 hours Group D(eath) of MSL will be played, so make sure to not miss it. Lee Young Ho "God" Flash, Kim Taek Shin "The Revolucionist" Bisu and Lee Jae dong "The Tyrant" on the same group. (Sea also there but who cares)
Expect spectaculars game as the arguably top3 bw players battle it out to make it from their groups.
Event Time is 17:00 KST, 10:00 CEST, 04:00 EDT, 01:00 PDT
I just thought there should be a centralized thread for all the Canada talk, so Canadians unite!
Post any useful or relevant info you can find about poker-ing in Canada.
TAXES:
Gambling in Canada:
From WIKIPEDIA::
Income not taxed:
The following types of income are not taxed in Canada (this list is not exhaustive):
gifts and inheritances;
lottery winnings;
winnings from betting or gambling for simple recreation or enjoyment;
I don't know whether gambling for a living is considered self employment, but I'll assume that it is:
Canada levies personal income tax on the worldwide income of individuals resident in Canada and on certain types of Canadian-source income earned by non-resident individuals.
After the calendar year, Canadian residents file a T1 Tax and Benefit Return[4] for individuals. It is due April 30, or June 15 for self-employed individuals and their spouses, or common-law partners.

TO EXTEND YOUR STAY IN CANADA YOU JUST DO ALL OF THE ABOVE SHIT AGAIN, 30 DAYS BEFORE YOUR CURRENT VISA EXPIRES.
I don't think any of you want to work or study in Canada, so I'll leave those out to save space. However, this may interest some people:
In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada.
If you wish to study in a short-term course or program You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
THIS MEANS YOU CAN TAKE A SINGLE COURSE AND LIVE IN CANADA DURING THAT COURSE, if it's less than six months long.
